Well, let's be honest here, the South Course at Torrey Pines would merely be yet another pitch 'n' putt on TOUR were it not for its 7,698 yards of length, no matter how brutal the rough might be.

 

You can grow protective rough only so high before it gets ridiculous. What makes the South Course interesting (aside from the great vistas) is the fact that players are hitting into these greens with longer irons. This week they are playing proper golf.

 

When the result of a drive is a 5I into the green, driving accuracy becomes much more important, and you can't fake it around this place.

Old school. No tricky hazards, Kikuyu grass rough and fairways. Most exhausting course I've ever played ( played it alot before the redo). I like watching the pros have to play long shots and miss puts on Poa just like me.

I hate it when CBS has the coverage. I'm a big college basketball fan but when I'm ready to watch golf that's what I want. The BB games run over every week.
