ASK QUESTIONS: Live Q&A with Srixon Golf Balls!

Recommended Posts

I swing around 103, sometimes hitting 105, with my driver. I am solid ballstriker (1.2 hc), but am technically below the 105mph SS for the XV. Is there any reason why the XV would not work for me? I have always thought the softer version of tour balls were too soft and prefer the firmness of the XV, but want to make sure I am not leaving anything out there. Thanks!

what do you do see as the biggest trend for golf ball design (ie what part of golf ball tech has most room for improvement)?

also, how different are the ball needs of pros from single digit amateurs?

**thanks for keeping costs reasonable, its what drew me to the zstars, of course, ive stayed because the quality is there too.

I currently play the Q-Star and have for several years. I enjoy the durability and consistency of the ball, however, I feel I may be giving up some shots due to less spin control around the green. My average swing speed with driver is around 102. What ball would you recommend to assist with greenside control but would still give me the same durability I have become accustomed to with the Q-Star? Thanks for your time.

Hey! I would start by saying that I love the overall Srixon Brand. I feel like there is a lot of substance and quality to the products your deliver and keep pricing very reasonable for the level of quality provided. Great value products.

My question would be more of a big picture one. Basically, many people have commented on a possible need to put some restrictions or tolerances in place on the golf ball in order to "fix" the game. While I thoroughly disagree, what are your opinions? What aspects of ball design would be most likely affected? Do you even think it would be effective given the amount of really smart people devoting their livelihoods to such things as creating the world's best golf ball?

Thanks again for your time and availability!

Bob

I have been solely playing the Q Star ball for the past few seasons and absolutely love these balls for my game, mid HC. I do feel like they are a great fit for a lot of amateurs out there playing and they are at a good price point that won't break the bank. That being said what are the biggest differences someone of my skill level could see if I were to switch to either of these. I have read some of the posts earlier in the thread and i ma glad to see the durability is the same for these balls as well. You guys make some awesome products over there, keep it up!

Hi Srixon —

I had a question about the level of collaboration between the Srixon brand and it's Tour staff when it comes to golf ball design.

When producing a new generation of the Z Star/XV, is there any back-and-forth between tour players and and Srixon about performance aspects and design areas that could be improved?

A couple quick questions about the infographic on the back of the 6-ball trial pack. The 2017 XV is listed as the higher flying version of the ball on drives and approach shots. Is this also true for greenside performance? Is it different than previous gen versions of the XV vs ZStar?

So far, for me, the 2017 ZStar just sounds fantastic, very quiet, and it has a noticeably higher launch around the green than the 14 ZStar.

I would be interested to see a numbers comparison between the two z stars and balls of other manufacturers, in particular numbers showing launch and spin data compared to Titleist and Bridgestone balls. I tried the new xv and it seemed launch high with longer clubs but it was spot on with wedges and short game. I haven't tried the z star but I am looking for a long term replacement for the Nike RZN Tour Black.

WIth the exciting launch of the new lines, how often do you guys get requests from non-srixon staffers to "try" the ball?

Question 2: roughly, what split is the regular z - star and the XV on tour? What about for consumers?

Thanks for taking the time to chat!!!

Hi. Can we make this real simple between the XV and Z Star. Driver swing speed 100mph above and below, which ball and why? Thanks.

Looking forward to playing the new ball, I have been playing the Z Star XV Tour Yellow for the last few years.

I am a fan of the Tour Yellow due to playing more in the evening and feel that I can follow the ball a longer distance compared to a white ball. I am curious what the percentage of the Z-Star and Z-Star XV you sell in the Tour Yellow compared to the White. I assume more white due to more of them being lost :P

Kind regards

Very kind of Srixon to take some time with everyone's question, and here is mine.

As the Z Star has continued to lower compression over time to 88 with this year's release, where does this year's Z Star and the new Q Star Tour differentiate themselves from one another?

Thank you much! (fan of the old Z Star SL if you can't tell!)

Question for any/all Srixon staff:

Throughout your experiences in custom fittings in relation to golf balls, what is the most memorable "ah ha" moment you've experienced with either a tour pro, or amateur golfer, where their way of thinking about the golf ball, or self-actualization in relation to their ball was elevated to a different level?

Cheers!

Many users have reported the new XV to be "clicky" or hard feeling off their wedges and putter. Do you guys test the balls using putters with inserts, milled putters, etc.? Forged or cast wedges? Combination of all of these? Just curious as I know everyone interprets feel differently, and I am sure it is difficult to keep the ball feeling "soft" while maintaining its durability and excellent wind properties. Thanks guys!

I love the new 2017 Z-Star. I purchased a trial pack, and the first time out I made a bunch of birdies and shot one under for the round.

My queston: What changes were made to the new Z-Star compared to the 2016 version? I liked the old one, too, so are the changes just refinements on the existing design, or is it entirely new?

Is there any possibility of a future XV version that feels softer off the putter and chipping?

I bought some trial 6 packs and have really liked the ball except for the firmness off the putter and chipping. Too "clicky" for my taste. I know the regular version is softer, but I prefer the rest of the characteristics of the XV.

i'll echo this. really love the ball flight i'm getting and feel from iron shots. putting is what makes the ball feel so different. playing high dollar balls, it feels like i miss hit some putts.

..and this is coming from putting with my soft carbon scotty cameron.

thanks.
