New Ping driver - 2017

I hit all clubs with my shaft fitted for last winter that has been great for dispersion and the shorting of the shaft to 44 3/4 has really helped with hitting the sweet spot 90% of the time. Good luck.

I am currently using a 44.25 inch driver and am going up to 44.5. If only people understood a shorter shaft would lead to easier times on the course ...

That is not true for every one. Some will be more accurate with a shorter shaft. But some actually gain accuracy with a longer shaft. You can't make a blanket statement like that.

Thanks for the further info. I like the feel of the KK XM, not sure which version is offerred by PING. At any rate, I have much better result with lightweight (50 gm. and less) and stiffer flex. Will wait for more info once the G400 is more available and more people tests them. Unfortunately, I'm in the minority of WRXers with low swing speed.

As I am too. I'm interested in hearing feed back from some higher handicappers with slower swing speeds. I have the G regular flex and average about 235 off of the tee. Went into GG yesterday to try out the same setup. Looks are nice and subtle for people who prefer no distractions . I prefer the bright blue shaft and blue crown of the G. Sound was amazing. Felt like I was crushing every shot. My results were around the same as my G driver. So the question here is are only higher swing speeds benefitting with the increased speed and distance of the G400? I am yet to see a review of anything other than the LST drivers and ones which upgraded shafts.

This is true. But going down to 44.75 made a HUGE difference for me. :)

I agree.. my Ping G30 LS with Tour 65x was butt trimmed to play 44.75" and it's very easy to hit, seem to hit the center of the face more often. I should try cutting down my 2017 M2 to prove that out as well.. off to the lab... !

Was fitted for the SFT model with stiff flex hzrdus yellow. I honestly don't know what it is. But my average swing speed during my fitting was 102mph. Topping out at 104mph a few times. My average swing speed with my Cobra F7 was high 90's. But distance gain was minimal compared to my Cobra F7. LST head was the longest, but I didn't find it as forgiving as the SFT and the regular head. I placed my order yesterday for the SFT and hzrdus yellow. Now the waiting game begins.

I found that switching from Size 12 to Size 13 in FootJoy golf shoes last year made a lot of difference in comfort. I think everyone ought to wear Size 13's!

I also wear size 13's. Couldn't imagine playing in a 12, or any other size!

Played my first round with the G400 driver. Got fit a week ago for driver, 3-wood, and irons. They had a driver for me to take with me. Trackman showed about a 10-15 yard improvement over my Titleist 915 D2. Well, once I dialed it in on the course, I was hitting it, on average, 250-260 yards. I know all you WRX's post better yardage than pro's, but I'm being real here. My average drive used to be 220-230. I was amazed at how much distance I picked up. Missed 2 fairways today, but that was me trying to hit it too hard. Very impressed! Can't wait for the rest of my G400 family to make its way to my bag! Play well my friends!

had my first round today with the G400 driver. I am 58, have had 3 shoulder surgeries, 4 right knee surgeries and need knee replacement, and have 3 herniated discs in my lower back. Obviously I have lost lots of swing speed. Down to about 83 mph. But a solid ball striker. My Titleist 915 D2 i usually hit about 230 yards. I miss maybe 1 or 2 fairways a round. Play to an 11 handicap now. Couple years ago I was a 7, but handicap increased due to poor iron play. With regards to the new Ping driver, I averaged 240-250 today. Hit a couple about 260. Played on my golf club so I know where I normally hit to on every hole. All I can say is I was hitting 1 to 3 less irons into every hole. So for us "normal" folks that don't hit it 300+ yards like most of the WRX'ers on this site, I'd highly recommend the new Ping G400! Get fit! Definitely see distance gains and this club is very forgiving. Hope this helps!

You must get some prodigious roll-out to hit 230-yard drives with 83mph of clubhead speed.
that was my issue ... spin rate was so low the fitter said, that rollout was close to 30 yards. Also have to remember that smash factor is very important, as I have a very efficient swing. It's not all about swing speed. Launch, spin, and smash factor are all part of the equation.

i am a smooth tempo swinger, was fit into the Alta CB, regular flex. Picked up almost 3 mph swing speed, smash factor up to a 1.50, launch optimized at 14.5, and spin around 2,000. Total distance improved to 242 average, with 10 yards more carry. Old Titleist 915 D2 spin was very low. Although I hit it well, he said I had a lot of knuckle spin, thus lots of rollout to about 225-230. Very consistent with Titleist, but G400 has much better ball flight, more distance, and more forgiving on my misses

Thanks and interesting. I tried the Reg Alta twice so far, outdoors on my own and indoors with launch monitor. I'm a few mph less than you, but more aggressive transition and I had no control...the indoor rep agreed no way that reg Alta shaft was for me. Scheduled for an outdoor fitting this Thursday with a Ping rep.

Glad you're getting fit. The shaft is the engine and doesn't fit everyone the same. Transition and how you load it makes all the difference. The Alta feels a little easier to hit than the Diamana S+ Blue in my Titleist so I was afraid of control loss. Instead it helped with my launch and spin and I picked up some distance. If I go after real hard like a crazy baseball swing, I'll hit some hooks, but that's me. Good luck!! Ping G400 is the real deal!

You said earlier you were averaging 250-260 with the new driver, didn't you?

Even at 1.50 smash factor and 15 or 16 degrees of launch the optimum carry is around 205-ish. Which is why I said you must be getting some prodigious rollout on hard fairways. And if you're getting optimum launch angle for your ball speed you must really hit up on the ball a lot.

Or alternatively you're actually getting a bit more than 83mph of clubhead speed which seems more likely to me...

At 85 mph swing, with 14.6 launch, and low 2,000 spin rate, an average drive is 246 yards. You can find this info on TrackMan. You right, I'm probably swinging faster than that. I use my Garmin G6 to track club distances (including roll). On one par 4, measuring 374, I had a sand wedge in from 93 yards. I was hitting 1-3 clubs less into greens with the Ping G400, at my club where I play twice a week for the past 3 years. I am very happy. I'm being totally forthright in my comments, not like most WRX's who hit it better than the pro's (no offense). I'm just being honest and not making this stuff up or boosting any ego. I'm a short hitter, but very accurate and have an efficient swing. Thanks!

I don't think you're making anything up. I just think you're probably swinging closer to 90mph than to the 83mph you started with. That 246 number includes like 30 yards of roll which on my home course would only happen in really dry fall or winter conditions. To get to 250 or 260 at 85mph clubhead speed implies 40+ yards of roll.

A few years ago I did an A/B comparison, hitting a ton of balls back to back with my Titleist 910 driver and the Ping G25 I was considering buying. Especially when I went back for the second session and really found a groove with the Ping I saw my clubhead speed go way up.

In the past I guarantee you I'd never sniff 90mph clubhead speed. Even swinging out of my shoes I'd max out at 87 or 88. But the weight (lighter), balance (less head-heavy) and shaft feel (flex without feeling whippy) of the Ping driver suited me perfectly. And I was hitting the middle of the clubface so often it freed me up to swing faster and faster.

I walked out of there after hitting my last dozen shots in a row at 91 or 92mph and not surprisingly I hit that driver to places I'd never been with the Titleist. But it wasn't shaft-engine mojo or launch optimization, it was all about that 6mph or so of clubhead speed gain plus hitting the center of the face more often.

During my fitting on an outside range, the average Ping driver numbers came to 205 carry with rollout to 230-235. Couple notes. Was hitting range balls and fitter said I should get about 10% better results with my Snell MTB, and we had a good 10-12 mph head wind when I was fit. So I guess I am swinging faster, I am definitely swinging up and getting much better launch, and my spin numbers are now ideal

I have some interesting data in relation to length of shaft. I can't say that this test is completely accurate given different heads, shafts, swing weights, etc.

Today I went to Impact Precision Golf in Houston, TX. Go check these guys out good people!

Brought my current gamer: 2017 M2 9.5* Standard setting 44" Aldila Rogue Silver 110 MSI 70X D2 swing weight

Tested PING G400 & LS heads with several shafts (Tensei White & Orange, Hzrdus T1100& Yellow, UST Chrome Elements)

Best fit for me was G400 9* set to (small -) 45 1/4" Tensei Orange 60 TX D5 swing weight

You will see below my M2 gamer I was swinging at 113 mph and getting about 169 mph ball speed low spin and 288/321 yards.

Going to G400 setup I improved my club speed, ball speed, carry and total yards, and most importantly for me dispersion!

As said above in previous post you have to find what is right for you! Spend the money and get properly fit.

Sorry about sideways picture wouldn't upload properly.

My course doesn't have the Aldilia Copper or Kuro Kage shaft in their demo kit. The Ping Tour S 65 gave me the best numbers by far with SFT head. I think I have to try either of those 3rd party shafts before placing my order.

Can anyone give me some insight on how they effected your fitting? Did either of those launch way higher than the Ping Tour? Ping Tour is listed as Low Mid, those are both Mid

So I hit the Kage today. The guy at the store got confused and gave me the copper colored shaft instead of the one with copper in it. I wasn't smart enough to realize I was hitting the Alta instead of the Aldila.

Here's my numbers. The one labeled Aldila is really the Alta. Based on this info, anyone have some insight on what I could expect with Aldila? Sooooooo mad I didn't hit that

Ignore shots that are not the average. There's no way to tell which shots were selected for the average as I was rotating thru clubs very frequently
