Remarkable how some people can confidently dismiss the performance potential of a golf club that they have not tried.

 

And also how some people can confidently exclaim the performance potential of a golf club that they have not tried.

 

Personally, it will come down to how the stock shaft works, for me. I would prefer a little heavier than the Alta.

Yeah, no, I don't see anyone saying that this will definitely be the best driver. I just see people who are excited to try it -- which, given Ping's record, is reasonable. I was addressing the few who are dismissing the G400 out of hand.

 

I don't get along with the Alta shaft either. The heavier "Tour" shafts work much better for me, and imo are just damn good shafts, period.

I would then go to their tour shaft.

Looks like a very similar head shape to the Ping G. But a nice new color so that should add 5-6 mph in ball speed.

 

5-6? Try 1-2 for most everyone. And 1-2 is pretty darn good.

Is it definitely 445cc? Or is still 460 but looks smaller than previous G drivers due to design?

 

Ping has recently really stretched the body of their drivers to get that weight as far back, if you put a Callaway next to a G driver you'd think the Ping is 550cc and the Callaway 400cc. But both are 460.

It is definitely 445(-ish)

The looks/feel of Ping drivers have never been my preference at all. I hate those ugly turbulators on the crown. Still looking forward to

testing the new model though.

Champ(a) using it on the range, couldn't watch to see if it was in play. Leading the tourney in driving distance & longest drive, I believe.

 

The guy is a total beast off the tee. What is he averaging with the G400 this week?

 

They said on the broadcast somewhere around 338 I believe

I'm unfamiliar with this. Are you saying for an extra $50 you can get a head to exact specs rather than what rolls of the production line?

 

If so, what specs are you able to dictate?

I understood what you were saying and I was wondering the same thing.

 

I seriously doubt they will have any more option than the G as far as heads . Hell how about some more shaft options...........
