It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye. Imagine a billionaire stoned golfer smashing into your car/family. I'm sure that wil make everyone look at the evidence a little differently.

If you all think it's impossible to get a conviction without a biological specimen you're sadly mistaken.

are we talking tiger woods or broke guy who has public defender ?

It's pretty clear Tiger and his team are not going to fight this. That's why his statement was conciliatory and very complementary toward law enforcement. I'm sure they want this to go away as quickly as possible. Plead guilty, pay fine, no drive for the next year.

Stop traffic (ha!). That idiot in post #900 of this thread has no clue about which he speaks. Not saying it'll happen, however.

Some of these wild-a** hypotheticals should be put to rest by this comment: "I understand the severity of what I did, and I take full responsibility for my actions," Woods said in the statement.

A lot of wiggle room here. An attorney could say he was exhausted when he made the statement, or that what he said was misinterpreted (doesn't matter if the statement is black and white and clear as the sky in the Sahara Desert), or he didn't understand the severity of what he did as he wasn't aware of the effects of the medications taken together, or...

In any case, I think he won't fight this. As things look now, there is absolutely no upside in doing so.

serious face on for a second.. :scenic: ... these meds... lets say it comes back and he has 2 prescribed pain meds in his system... plus a prescribed sleeping pill.... do these pills tel you not to mix them at all ? or do they just say not to drive ? also do any known antibiotics not mix with ambien or equivalents? as in i fyou are to take pain meds at certain times daily and are also prescribed a sleeping pill shouldnt they mix ? if not does a person in pain not ever take ambien ? again serious questions.. ive never taken an ambien ( and wont) so i have no idea.....

what im getting at is.... is it ill advised to mix to begin with , or should he just not have driven.. is it possible that he was prescribed both types of meds recently with intent to mix by docs and this resulted in a bad reaction ? and if so does the law put all responsibility on the patient or is some on the doc for prescribing it ? ( assuming its prescribed to be mixed)

If ambien was involved he more than likely had no idea what he was doing as it actually hypnotize's your brain to sleep. Sleep walking and doing strange things is very common. There was a guy in my industry that used to sleep walk on it and would send out dozens of emails. He actually used to disassemble his PC at night to avoid doing this. One night he actually put his PC together and sent off some strange emails that cost him is job. The guy had no recollection of any of it.

When one takes a Percocet orally as prescribed, putting the pill in your mouth, taking a swig of a liquid and swallowing it, roughly 48% of that oxycodone gets into your system after the pill is metabolized and goes through one's system.

By dissolving it, one gets 92% of the narcotic into their system.

This is 100% false.

It's 100% fact-

Actually 89-92% and the low end number is spot on and the individual who spoke about it at a UPMC Pain Symposium was Cyril Wecht, M.D., JD, former Medical Examiner(Coroner), Alleghenies County

Regards,

RP

Yes,, and probably why my neighbor crushed and snorted his Oxy's... Much more potent if you get it to the blood quicker...

There's a chance someone reading this has an issue with painkillers. These comments aren't helping them.

In fact these comments should be deleted.

You are correct and I apologize. The sad truth is that abusers won't care much either way. And, they likely already know the best method to abuse any drug. I serve on an intervention team for teens with alcohol and other drug related issues. They astound me with their creativity and risk taking.

Hopefully someone who is currently abusing and reading this thread will be equally astounded at the stupidity of it all. A drug is a drug, prescribed, bought illegally, or bought over the counter. Tiger could have injured himself or others which would devastate the lives of many who are innocent to his lifestyle or pain management. Even if an accidental drug interaction, I define abuse when the use has negative consequences. Tigers situation qualifies and I hope that he too sees the stupidity of it all and begins the steps needed to stop taking the meds even if prescribed.

I would say mixing scripts or not, anyone that takes an ambien then gets behind the wheel at 3am is extremely reckless. I don't know beyond that if it's okay to take ambien and these heavy pain meds together.

To your second point, doctors know what scripts can and can't mix together. Also, for heavy duty pain meds doctors will tell you either don't drive for a certain period after you take these meds to be sure you are okay to drive, and they'll even sometimes flat out tell you not to drive at all until you move to the weaker stuff.

I've been prescribed pain meds for kidney stones, the doctor was very careful to explain the do's and don'ts of taking them and not to mix them with other pills. On top of that, the prescription comes with a few sheets of warnings so it's pretty difficult to claim ignorance unless one wants to be ignorant.

He had to be really out of it to flatten his 2 driver side tires, damage his rims and bumpers and still pass out on the side of the road.

I'm sure he'll plea to a misdemeanor charge and make this go away as quickly as he can. There's no way he wants the media coverage to continue until a trial. Plus he's already admitted to mixing prescription drugs and ignorance isn't a defense so there's no point to a trial unless the DA won't give him a reasonable plea deal.

After reading the recent reports, it seems plausible that he could have taken his meds at home while in complete control of his actions, gotten in the car to make a quick trip for food/coffee/what-not, and the meds hit him hard on the way. By the time he realized he was in trouble, he turned on his right turn signal, pulled the car to the side of the road, and passed out. I am not trying to minimize the significance of driving while intoxicated, but there is a difference between getting smashed and then getting in the car and driving vs. having an unexpected response to medication while driving and doing the responsible thing and pulling the car to the side of the road. Again, this is complete conjecture on my part, but he blew a 0.00, so it may have been what happened. And while I'm creating a completely unsubstantiated scenario, I would also like to say that I would be surprised if Ambien was not involved.

I have commented a lot on this because I feel I have sudden expertism on the subject matter

Battled addiction, depression, and mental illness my entire life. Was told when I was 25 by a probation officer that if I don't quit drinking and doing drugs that after lord knows how many failed piss tests, that I could be put away for 50 years.

I quit then. But it took me even longer to "get" it in life. Too much substituting one thing for another. A horrible destructive path that I'm afraid he's on too.

Breaks my heart

This would be the same as taking 5 quick shots of liquor and driving. I felt fine until about 10 minutes down the road. I'm assuming he realized he was in trouble after he wrecked, thankfully not into another car. There is nothing responsible with taking medication, possibly several, that all say do not drive and getting behind the wheel to go get food/coffee/what-not. This isn't like he just pulled into a parking lot, he was partially in the roadway vehicle damaged and passed out. That doesn't scream responsible.

I have to say tiger is following a dark path. I hope he sees a therapist regularly. The man may be so reckless with his life that he's damn near suicidal. Maybe he is. I hope not. Hate to see him OD due to his depression exhibiting some signs of it I would say.

Whoa man we just keep making monumental leaps in behavioral assessment.

Tiger needs a friend, but a real one. I feel sorry for him...

He needs someone who looks after him, it seems. If you load yourself with prescription drugs, then get up at three in the morning and get into your car you are clearly not in control of yourself. Let's hope he gets out of this some way, addiction to prescription drugs is no better than addiction to booze, coke, or other drugs. It makes you lose control and lets you do things you shouldn't do. Addiction SUXXX!
