got to hit the G400 9* turned down to 8* vs my current G LS at 8* today. With both playing at 8* and my 105-107 SS the current GLS was beating the reg G400 for me by about 5 yards with both very accurate. My G L's was spinning around 2000 and the G400 was around 2800 avg with its lowest at 2500 and a few 3000 in there. Great head for those looking for a little more spin but not good at all for me. SS was 2 mph faster in both test with the new heads.

When I hit the G400ls last week at 7.5 I was getting 1900 avg spin and more distance (15 yards and 5mph+ ball speeds) than my current set up and also 2mph SS inc. Obviously the LS is right for me and I believe most SS above 100 will see the LS more desirable while the 95 and under may prefer the reg G400. Just my guess but I'm not a fitter. Ping has 3 distinct models. One for the golfer who fights the slice SFT, the G400 for the player needing spin and max foregivness, and the LS for players who fight spinning it to much while still offering a very forgiving club but not quite the 400 level of moi.

I hit all clubs with my shaft fitted for last winter that has been great for dispersion and the shorting of the shaft to 44 3/4 has really helped with hitting the sweet spot 90% of the time. Good luck.

Thanks for the good info. I'm playing the Cleveland Classic XL Custom at 7.5 degrees and about 1 degree open. Would it be safe to pick up a 9 degree LST from a big box store to get the same specs? The talk of digit lofting has me nervous...

I'm not sure. I've always purchased the off the rack heads. Works for me. If someone needs to know 100% then get a 8.5 G400ls digitally lofted to be sure. Was the Cleveland xl loft tested? If not you could get that one tested as well to make sure it's actually 7.5.

I go by visual ball flight and such so the 8.5 stamp would satisfy me. I've read most tolerences are within 1 degree.

Got a chance to hit the G400 LS driver yesterday. Sound was much improved over the previous two generations. Still hand that slight ting sound, but nowhere near as loud as the G30 or G series. Was pleasantly surprised by the forgiveness in the 445 head.

Yes sir. 8.5 goes up to 9.5 or down to 7.5. Same adaptors as the 30 and G. Something else some aren't aware of is the 57* lie angle for the g400ls is an average of the 5 settings as well. So I 7.5 you're actually flatter lie angle (good for me as I have a flat swing) and more upright if you loft up. The lower setting gets me with a flatter lie that helps avoid that occasional left shot (hook).

I think he meant most manufacturers have a 2* window in terms of loft. It can be stamped 8.5*, actual of 9.5* and have a real world range of 8.5-10.5*

I believe you're correct as I miss interpreted. I don't really know that answer. I assume all the mfg's are off the stamped lofts a smidge. Manufacturing is a tough business.

No question. Anyone that complains should grab a protractor and look at what 1* actually is and then explain how you could guarantee clubs built to an exact loft while keep cost low enough to be sold in a high volume. Exact loft could be achieved but the expenses to create that club would be astronomical, hence why Tour Issue heads are measured after production and they pluck from already created inventory

All, I have had 2 digitally lofted heads from Ping. I used to worry about that because initially most of the Ping heads lofts were under stated. It seems that has all changed. There is another spy website and they just measured all manufacturers heads for loft and found that in the 2016-2017 heads, most all were dead on target. The most any Ping G driver was off was .2 degrees. This was measured across all 3 heads. Now I know this could be by chance and that there are manufacturing tolerances but I would dare to say what we have heard from Ping reps that the new forged face and mfg process lets them get closer than ever on true loft. I will have no issues at all buying off the rack if its in stock. I already know the Tour 65 shaft is perfect for me having been fit for it in both the G30 and G. Now I just have to see if its the LS 8.5* or 10*, or possibly the 9* Standard.

Any numbers on the G400 fairways v. previous generations of Ping fairways? I have a G30 3 wood that is one of the most reliable clubs in my bag, but the comments about the G400 line have been pretty glowing.

Has anybody tried to order a fairway with the x torsion shaft? I was told the upgrade is more than $75, is that right?

Don't know what to tell ya, the 70X is available. I ordered mine through my B&M store with that shaft, I called DD and they had it listed as an option and online 2nd Swing has it listed as an option

Good source / friend of mine who is a club fitter in Atlanta was at PING hq last week and I asked him about the delay on the G400 LST and his response :

I was out there last week and they said the first batch of shafts for lst were well below their standards and all were rejected.

Thanks for update and hate that news. I just need the head....darn you Ping.

Do the LST's only come in the Alta shaft in store?

I just picked up a standard G400 at RD and all of their in store lst's have either Alta or tour 65. They have a couple standard 400's with the tour also but only those two shafts came in

If true, odd choice on their part. There isn't an LS only shaft or adapter. The Alta is standard on both, and the Tour is an upcharge on both. Now it could be there's an issue with the tour shafts (and when the G30 first came out the tour shaft was in short supply for a while), but if that were the issue I'd expect that Ping would make the LS available with the rest of the shafts that they offer.

It's a head issue, not shaft.

I have a G400 LST on order with a Graphite Design Tour AD-BB shaft and it's not shipping for weeks. No issue with GD shafts... so we know that isn't the issue.
