Please stop clipping a towel to your belt

I know guys who suffer really sweaty palms while playing once the temperature gets mildly warm. I'd prefer to play with a guy who has a towel clipped to his belt than someone who keeps going back to their bag to wipe their hands before every shot.

How far away are they keeping their bag? Mine is about 2 or 3 feet away, so reaching over to use the towel is not really a big deal in anyway.

Several courses I play have tee beds 15-20m from the cart path - far enough for it to be annoying and a waste of time to have to go back to your bag just to dry your hands.

Completely agree, it looks ridiculous, but you can't ignore the practical element to it.

I take it you ride a cart then. I am walker and the guy in question was.

I'm talking push buggy, not cart. I walk as well. The links style courses I typically play have tee beds away from the path and you can't take your buggy only the tee a lot of the time.

So I'll confess, I started clipping a towel to my belt loop by my right hip about 3 years ago and I would feel weird now playing without it. I used to fool with carrying a towel to the green but often would either forget to grab it or would find myself walking up from having played a shot within 100 yards of the green. It's one thing to ask your playing partner to grab your putter and maybe a sand wedge for a chip but feels wrong to ask them to bring your towel to you too. And just for sake of clarity, I basically always am using a golf cart as courses in and around Atlanta are typically damn hilly so the towels actually on my bag aren't very handy. While I primarily use it for wiping off my ball before putting, it comes in really handy in the summer to give a quick swipe of the forehead before addressing the ball so I don't have sweat running down my nose when I'm trying to hit a shot.

But what you guys are really going to love is that my towel is a Titleist JDM one. Titleist actually makes a few different ones, they aren't sold in the states but you can find them on ebay. Here is the one I have.

And for what its worth, no one has ever called me out on it.

Do you play at a Ritzy place? Maybe it was too hot for the ascot he wore and thought it could do double duty...

2bGood, I'm with you 100% on this one. I used to play on Sunday's with a group of guys and one guy actually stuffed a hand towel in his back pocket. Not a golf towel mind you, an old hand towel he probably swiped from his wife's cleaning supply cabinet. I use a Club Glove towel, one end is wet, that I may take to the green to clean the ball.

It gets draped over a couple of clubs if walking, or the in the basket if riding a cart.

As bad as the towel hooked to the belt is, is there anything more annoying than that "plastic hand" thing that attaches to your bag to put your glove on so it retains it's shape??

I couldn't care less if a guy hangs a towel from his belt, has a staff bag, uses iron hardcovers, dresses like a professional, etc. It doesn't affect my game one iota.

Thank You for posting----- My sentiments exactly--- I could give two hot dams less what someone else does

32 yo, 4 hdcp, wears a towel on belt loop. Doesn't care what you think. Let's play a round together, and I'm sure you do something that annoys me, but I doubt I take the time to whine to an online golf community about it.

I played with a gentleman yesterday who had more carabiners attached to his belt loops than a mountaineer. He had one for his range finder, another for a towel, another for his scorecard holder, one for his brush, and one more I wasn't quite sure about. It didn't bother me. He also wore a white belt, and braces, as well as knee high socks.

I'll occasionally put the club glove pocket towel in my back pocket to clean my ball on the greens but thats it. Theres no way I could have something hanging from my belt swinging a club though. I guess I should mention that I don't care what people carry or wear on the course as long as they act appropriate

look people ... if you are a diehard golfer, there's nothing wrong with being a golf snob ... castigate every mf you see who clips a towel to his belt ... or wears inappropriate attire ... shoot anyone who doesn't fix pitchmarks ... disavow friends who arrive just before tee time ...

embrace it ...

I've always clipped one to mine and don't regret it one bit. The funniest thing is my one friend who always talks trash about it is always wanting to use it when we get on the green. Not such a joke then is it?

I do, through the 3rd belt loop. I use a carry bag but not of the standing variety. Hanging it in the bag and laying it on the ground will mess up the towel. But even with a trolley it hangs on my belt. I play in 30+°C and high humidity so the closer I dry my right hand before hitting the shot the better.

What no pics? Come on we need visuals for a rig like that. Can't imagine having all of that clippednto me while playing, especially the range finder.

Recently I saw a decent golfer (6cap) in his 30's doing this. It was a dry day and there was no special reason why you needed a towel with you constantly.

I can accept on guys 60+ but otherwise I find it annoying and silly looking.

Could not agree more. Sure sign of a hacker or someone who just "doesnt get it". leave it in your cart or on your bag... its not far away. You aren't a quarterback you dont need a towel on your belt.

This thread inspired me to bring a wash cloth I swiped from my wife's linen closet to the course this morning.

It was great!

Fit nicely in my back pocket (no belt clip), ball was cleaned on every green, and I was able to wipe down the club face after a messy practice swing!

Thanks OP!
