I just bought a set of WedgeWorks Raw SM6’s discounted because the SM7’s are coming.

 

I was just down at TPI. Just like the 6's a little different CG positioning. Nothing different from a playability standpoint.

So, I have heard others say that the Vokeys available to the public are not the same Vokeys played on tour. I know many on tour play the Raw, rather than plated, but is there really a difference between the Raw option from the Vokey shop and what the tour guys are playing?

I don’t believe there is any difference (other than specific tweaks) between the Tour and Vokey Raw options.

That makes sense. Hopefully that is the case. I wish I could find it, but the comment was something along the lines of a poster saying he had hit a tour players vokey and it felt nothing like any of the retail vokeys he'd ever hit. Maybe it was the shaft, maybe it was the mystique of hitting a tour club or maybe he was just making it up.

So we're suggesting that there will be L, K, S, M, F grinds and the addition of the D grid? Are we also suggesting that it's going to be Tour Chrome, Black Oxide and some sort of Nickel/Brushed Aluminum finishes?

 

Sounds like it's going to be a very similar lineup to the SM6.

Same heads, but they have specific head weights to chose from, and if they want something custom done to the specific grind; they have that luxury as well. The retail heads, you never know what they’ll grab off the shelf. I’ve seen lob wedge heads from wedgeworks come from anywhere from 299g-309g

Looks like a mix between Brushed Copper and Nickel. They look pretty clean. I loved the Brushed Copper but hate the M grind.

I vaguely recall reading that the SM7 will have a plated “raw” finish. It will be played and not raw but will have the appearance of being raw. These look like they could be that finish

The new SM7 will be released to the PGA Tour and debuted at the Shriners, beginning of November. I saw a loft/bounce chart from my sales rep, but no pictures. There is an addition of a "D" grind that looked to fit in just below the K... so no in order of effective bounce for the 58 & 60º they are L, M, S, "D", K. Three finishes like before, Tour Chrome, Jet Black (same raw finish like SM6), and a new grey finish that replaces the Steel Grey that looks VERY MUCH like a RAW finish but will not rust.

 

IMHO, there's a lot of players and GolfWRX's that want a pure raw finish for an abundance of reasons. #1 because the tour pros use them, #2 because some of use realized the glare benefit, #3 because we can't get them ;) #4 because some of us prefer the look. In all seriousness, if Titleist offered a pure raw finish to the masses, they would end up with mass inventory at the end of the life cycle because Titleist sells 99% of its wedges to the average consumer, not us. The consumer wants to use their clubs until they are forced to replace them and want their wear and appearance to never change from day 1.

did you happen to notice if the K grind was avail in low bounce or is the new D grind going to fit in between the L and K grinds? thanks for the info

No Low Bounce K from what I saw... that is such a unique grind and is VERY unforgiving, a very condition dependent sole according to Voke himself and from my experiences. There are a handful of Tour pros that utilize a version of the K, including Justin Thomas, but his is simply softened with some heel relief dropping effective bounce to 8º. Titleist wants to stick to its guns when selling to the masses thus the reason for WedgeWorks.

 

The D grind sits in the bounce/grind matrix between the M and K which is on the higher effective bounce spectrum for 58º and above (low L-M-D-K high)

 

I know this a relatively old post but doesn't the S grind already fall in between the M and K? Curious as to where the D falls in relation to the S?

That brushed steel looked a lot more promising in the previous photos (with the plastic still on them). Now it looks super shiny in the last pic.

The middle though does look more shiny... and more "brass/bronze" looking than the current grey color with Sm6. All blacked out looking very stealthy though. Wonder if custom shop will let you fill in the lettering with color?
