"I hear there's a raw option coming to retail."

-Said someone every year since the last ones came out like 12 years ago

The $250 ones on Vokey.com don't count by the way.

I love how they charge you more to give you less with the raw finish.

... Amen. Kinda like shopping for golf shirts for the Mrs. Half the material and twice the price of the exact same mens shirts.

In regards to post someone made earlier, someone in Tour had the SM7 in Black and it definitely had other colored paint fill. It was not all black.

Retail will be all black.

Just get the retail jet black, soak in vinegar overnight, brush with the non scratch blue 3m scouring pad, BOOM, you have a raw vokey and saved 100 bucks.

It looks the same, sure. No way it feels the same though. The option from Wedge Works is way softer feeling (at least in the SM6 model) than the standard retail offerings. I think people get too caught up in the looks of the wedge and forget about the performance or feel they desire. For me, the WedgeWorks offering is a better product.

I completely agree. I stripped a black finish and also ordered a Raw from WedgeWorks. The Raw WW wedge was a lot softer feeling over the black stripped version.

Not only that, the stripped do not rust as quickly or easily as the raw from wedgeworks. The feel is obviously different. The difference begs questions, especially from someone like me who is ignorant to metallurgic things. I owned both in the SM5s, the difference was remarkable in every aspect. It made me wonder if the retail black wedges were just not as high quality of a product, or if the fact that they weren't manufactured to be completely raw changes everything about them versus raw when the finish is stripped, due to the process of applying the finish.

When the SM6 Jet Black wedges are treated it will change the overall surface of the pourous 8620 metal. The finish absorbs into the metal, and even when treated with vinegar or CLR, the jet black finish will actually remain in the metal. A true raw wedge and the Jet Black modified raw wedge ARE NOT the same but pretty close. I've used both and don't notice much difference besides the amount of rust. They're the same metal its just possible with the Jet Black finish that it produces a different sound? After all, our feel is simply our perception of sound.

My "vinegarized" SM6 wedges, done at the beginning of the year, have not changed in appearance one bit. A bit of rust here and there but the same neutral gray anti-glare finish that looks great. When I've picked up actual raw wedges playing in the FedEx St. Jude, the pure raw finish quickly turned dark, and within a month or two were tarnished on the back.

I tried the CLR method of removing the Jet black finish on a SM5, it is NOT the same as a retail raw wedge. It comes out a weird grayish color. Unless they bring the raw to retail i'll continue to play the jet black finish and leave as is, i won't pay twice as much for the raw finish.

A few points from me -

I'll be so disappointed if they're larger heads like on SM5. Really disliked them; thought they looked like spades. SM6 were on point.

As for the Raw argument, we're just paupers getting second rate equipment. It's always the same! They're all at it. I hit shots with a tour player's raw SM6 and concur they're very different from retail.

Finally, I hope Vokey/Titleist find a way of making it easier to demo different wedge shafts. It's impossible to do so and I'm sure there are other great wedge shafts out there that you essentially just have to take a risk on if you want to give them a go. If it doesn't work you're paying 40% on top of what you just paid to reshaft - annoying.

Here's hoping we get plenty of options and wedge fitting catches up a little bit on the shaft front.

I actually just had a fitting a couple weeks ago for some irons and when we finished I hit some wedges as well as I was looking for something that might help with a little more spin and mentioned it to the fitter that its surprising that no one has come up with a system yet for wedges similar to what they do with irons. A fitting cart with some wedge heads and some screw in shafts would be great and like you said would save some cost on tinkering with trying to find a shaft you like in the wedges.

Doubt we’ll hear anything official until after the PGA show.

Someone knows, I've tried looking on vokeys site to see specs of new sm7s but hard to make out some of it as they are shown in bags with the tour players name on it.

X2 . looking as well.

Bagging a 47 degree PW for first time in years (previously was 45). Hoping they offer the M grind in 52 degrees and rerelease a the t grind in 64 degrees. Or will end up getting 54 M and 58 M and 60 L for versatility around greens.

Ill go my usual F in the 52 S or F in the 56 and probably M in the 60 this year.....

Really hoping for a 56 F with less bounce - Like the old SM2.

I have a new set of 52 56 60 SM2 in plastic but my OCD will make me atleast give the Sm7 a try.

2024 Bag TBD

What’s the price point on these retail? $150 like the SM6 or a bump like they did with the 718 irons?

The SM6s almost led the way in the shift to more expensive clubs over the last couple of years (as far as the main brands are concerned ie not PXG). Went up by about 20% compared to SM5. I'd be disappointed if they went up again but I wouldn't be surprised.
