Man, to MMB or not to MMB? If the DBM are softer, I feel like Id rather have softer than more compact at the end of the day. But they sure look good.

Gimme a week or two and ill let u know the difference.

Pip pip hooray!

This will be the first blade I've tried since my first set, a boxed set of Allied, consisting of a D, 3, 5w and 3, 5, 7, 9i. After that it's been all CB's......but I've been toying with the TE's and 560's for the better part of the 17 season. No reason I couldn't hit a blade, with success with the TE and 560. I just don't have an affinity for blades as I did not grow up a golfer and the gear I had was typically out of a box set or bought at a 2nd hand store. Once I got serious about the game it was at the tutelage of an avid golfer and a hobbyist clubmaker....and from that point I was hooked, on the game and on what we all know now as being a HO....point being you can only resist so long and then you must! I have a project in mind for a combo set of TE/MMB's utilizing both SL and MOI in the build!

In all honesty the dbms are a thing of beauty. The topline is quite thin for a CB however the overall blade size is id say bigger then ur average CB.

They are super soft and forgiving. More soft and forgiving then my 714 ap2s.blade length was negligably longer but thinner topline

The soles are wider which dont fit me as im a sweeper.

The only thing that didnt fit my eye on the dbm is the heel behind the hosel juts out a bit making them look bigger then they actually are. Its actually quite noticeable as the cluba get shorter like the pw and 9i. So it made the clubhead look bigger to me. If it wasnt for tht and the widesole i woulda got the dbm no questions asked.

Once i saw the topline of the mmb isnt noticeably bigger and the offset is still less then my ap2 i said im in. Once i get my mmb ill review em best i can as it is winter here.

For a constant offset club it shoulda been less like the TEs are. From the pictures alone i notice they are a bigger head i am sensistive to things from a topline. Anyways lol. They have a great looking back tho. Quite impressed.

I am suprised they went the jacked loft route though. Thr 4-PW GW set is really a 3-PW

I'll spare you...but you should know better. :fie: Do I need to go on my loft rant again that I subject you to about once every 2-3 weeks on TGN???

My first and last initials are M and E. When my wife saw my TE heads on the table she commented that they were my 'house brand'. I didn't understand what she meant and then she directed me to the logo. An intertwined M and E magically appeared before my eyes. I wonder if I can use the logic to scam a few new heads. A plan is hatched. As Mr. Burns would say, " excellent".

Based on specs alone i dunno where the PTM fit really.

The only number i hacent seen is their cdim as its not posted yet. But in terms of paper specs known

lowest to highest

AVCOg

DBM, MMB then PTM

MOI

MMB, DBM, PTM tho all are within 1 point

Blade length shortest to longest

MMB, DBM, PTM

Topline Thinnest to Largest

DBM, MMB, PTM

Overall size smallest to largest

MMB, DBM, PTM

Sole width smallest to largest

MMB, DBM, PTM

My guess is the PTM is meant to be a distance iron (like a TM M2 or Ping G series) with the looks of a traditional CB.

The DBM is ur players CB profile with amazing forgiveness

MMB is ur blade with amazing forgiveness

Dbm definately feel softer than the mmb.

Good to hear. Thanks. I’m thinking of leaning this way. I like soft

is the DBM going to be updated in 2018? So the PTM is the most forgiving of the 3? I saw the MPF is above 701 on both. I never have learned all the variables. I know MOI is a huge factor.

MOI is a huge factor in woods and hybrids but means very little on irons. It plays a much smaller role. Avcog and Cdim, blade length, sole width/grind play a much bigger role in irons

Think about it this way. The average moi of a driver is 4200-5000

Woods are 2800-3800

Irons we are talking under 15....

Just to put it in perspective.

The figures you cite for woods and drivers are metric system driven; I think it's gram-centimeter squared. Maltby's figures are imperial based (ounce-inch squared). That's a portion of the reason the numbers are so much lower.

Edit add:. Found a conversion calculator, the MOI given for the MMB, 11.4246, translates to 2090 gm-cm sqrd. The DBM come in at 2292.

FWIW, 1 oz-in squared equals 182.9 gm-cm squared.

Does anyone know if golf works will do a golf pack for FST shafts? Or do you have to “build your own” at that point ?

Was gonna try the SCORE I guess but thought maybe the FST Pro 115 maybe.

Hell, maybe I’ll just go score.

Suggest you call Mark Masters at Golfworks. I have purchased wedge paks from GW and he was willing to substitute the grip and shaft. I then payed the difference in price (be it lower or higher). Mark is great to work with.

Thank you for that. Still relatively small changes here we are talking about

Jason's enthusiasm for the DBM at our Canadian TGN forum had me keeping my eye out for a set if one easily crossed my path.

I'm a Mizuno guy and will order a set of MP-18 in the spring, not sure which flavour though, but I'm always game to dabble with clubs that get hot/hyped.

I was able to snag a low-mileage set ( dozen rounds ) of DBM 4-PW, but with C-Taper Lite Regulars at +1/2". I usually play Stiff / X-Stiff at normal 5i length of 38.0" gripped length. The irons I received were also loft-bent such that the short irons extended down to GW loft. The PW was 49* ( 46* is stock ) and progressed up such that 4i was at stock value of 23. I had them bent back to stock Loft & Lie

I have only hit them indoors on a GC2, and they definitely fly much higher, with lots of spin ( too much for me ) , and are a club shorter than what I'm used too.

I will probably remove an Accra Tour 110i ( X-Stiff ) graphite shaft from another set and test in the DBM 6i again.

I have recommended the DBM to a friend with lower SS and in need more height with his irons.

They are a very clean looking set, with very good feel, and I assume a good amount of forgiveness for what they are.

The hitting bay with the GC2 also has a full Mizuno cart at my disposal.

Below are pics of 6i from MP-4, MP18 MB, MP-18 SC, DBM, JPX-900F

- MP- 18 MB & SC are shortest blade length

- MP-4 is next, then DBM, then JPX-900F

I also own a set MP-4 and JPX-900F. With digital calipers flush down the face, and back, I measured topline thickness:

0.166" MP-4

0.252" JPX-900F

0.252" DBM

Happy Golfing ! ~ Andy

Decent looking back but too much offset blade length too long and those lofts are way too jacked lol.

The blade length and toe height is a fraction more than the DBMs; only .020 more offset 4-9 and .10 less in the P and G. Lighter heads and a bit more upright than the DBMs. Kinda like 'em...

So I was looking at DBM and MMB irons, and all of a sudden this shows up

https://www.golfworks.com/maltby-ptm-black-forged-iron-heads/p/MA0286S/

Maltby's answer to the TM P790? Lol

I'm seriously pondering getting off the iron carousel (currently have 5 sets) and settling for some DBMs...

You're in luck! Ping is coming out with new Glide wedges with a raw/black finish. There's a thread on it somewhere...
