Best Japanese Driver

I've just started looking into Japanese equipment, mainly because a club fitter that I trust has shown me some irons that I'm going to get. They are the Alpha MB irons.

 

It seems like there are tighter tolerances with these clubs, not that the technology is better, but they make them to spec rather than mass produce them and you can alter the lie angle on some of the drivers/woods. And you if you order a 10.5 head, chances are the head specs out at 10.5 and has a consistent face angle, rather then I feel US equipment you can order a 10.5 head and you get lofts all over the board.

 

My question is, what drivers are good in the Japanese market? I've looked at PRGR heads, Royal Collection, and some others but have zero clue if they are comparable to US domestic heads as far as ball speeds, forgiveness, etc...

 

Can someone point me in the general direction?

JBEAM is my favorite. Ryoma and Honma are solid as well.

No reason other than people in that market are willing to pay those prices.

I read somewhere that summed it up nicely. Have you ever closed the door on a Mercedes S class and closed the door on a Ford Fiesta?

 

The JDM woods are just superior.

Take a look at the new Miura Hayate driver....great club and not ridiculously priced. :taunt: I have the driver, 3 wood and 5 wood....Sweet!!

Just know that some Japanese drivers are non-conforming if that matters to you. They are built to give you max distance.

Really depends on what you are looking for and depends what you like. Most JDM drivers have forged faces, but that does not always equal to better feel. But Ryoma, JBeam, Baldo is a good place to start.

I'm totally sick of all the hype from TM, Callaway, PING, et al. I'm going back to JDM. Already have a Fourteen CT-112 that I will NEVER get rid of.

 

Anyone have any experience with the Bridgestone Tour B line of drivers. Thinking about picking up a "3" model.

When I was in the market, I fortunate to be able hit a few from JBEAM, Ryoma, and PRGR for a few range sessions (zero numbers on distance (unless you count eye-balling it), etc., just range sessions). I ended up going with PRGR just based on what I was seeing, and how it looked at address. To be honest, you really can't go wrong with any, I would have been happy with any of the ones I tested, I just went with the one that seemed to have worked best.

I had jbeam blackout and loved it until the magic vanished. Then I got the Epic and it’s still awesome 1 yr later. So I reached the opinion that US makes better drivers and JDM better irons and wedges. Which is wholly indefensible.

Crazy, Voltio, Honma beres, kamui, quelot etc they are all long with forgiveness, the feeling on the tee box is just amazing but be careful when you brought them like the Sword Voltio if you got a swing speed higher than 100 you can break the club face. My first Driver was honma and it was so great!!

So Honma or Kamui for me

Loved all of the Yamaha Inpres XV heads I've tried except the 2013, jBEAM have been hit and miss. Loved the 535 but didn't like the ZY-11. I have a ZY-7 in for testing.......

Kamui Works are great too. I didn't get on with the Ryoma D1 V-Spec.
