Putter - PING A-blade

This is the best I remember from my first round sub par. I was so nervous on the last hole I bladed my bunker shot, it was going straight into a water hazard. But luckily it hit the top of the flag stick and dropped next to the hole for a tap in par on the last.

Those Warbirds were fun clubs, wish I still had them to look at.

I think I was barrowing a friends Ping A-blade Putter that day.

Even though it has been a long time since I shot 65 (twice, both in 2009, on different courses), I absolutely know the clubs in my bag. It helps when you stop being a 'ho

Driver: Ping Rapture 10.5 with Blueboard shaft (only recently retired in favor of a nearly as old Cobra ZL with Matrix HD6 shaft)

Fairway wood: Adams 5050 14.5 with Matrix Ozik Code-8 (still in the bag today)

Hybrid: Adams AP2 20* with Rombax 8D07HB (also still in the bag today)

Irons: 4-PW TItleist 681 (retired due to non-conformance)

Wedges: 52*/56*/60* Taylormade Y-cutters (retired due to non-conformance)

Putter: Scotty Cameron Gun Blue Napa (still have it but sidelined in favor of a more forgiving Odyssey #9)

What is funny is that I played my best golf after I started getting fit on a Trackman and stopped changing clubs every week. The 6-7 years before this, I went through truckloads of equipment, trying to "buy" a game. I couldn't tell you all the clubs I bought/sold before the set above locked down my bag for many years.

Current bag (in sig below) isn't that different. I would still be playing the 681s and Y-cutters if they were conforming.

Old stuff:
1962 Tommy Armour AT2W Driver   1953 Macgregor M65W EOM 3 wood   1978 H&B PowerBilt Citation 4 wood
1984 Ben Hogan Apex PC 2-E   1968 Wilson Dual Wedge
1964 Acushnet O-SET M6S Bullseye Putter

New stuff
Cobra ZL 10.5 driver (Matrix HD6 s-flex)  Titleist TSR2 18* fairway wood (Matrix Code-8 s-flex)   Adams A2P 20* hybrid (Rombax 8D07HB s-flex)
Titleist 716 MB irons 4-PW (Apex 4 soft-stepped)    Callaway Mack Daddy wedges 52, 56, 60 (DG S200)

GREAT idea for a thread, though shocking to think how long ago this was...

Like most there are two answers (or more!). Lowest scoring round was at my Home Club (though now moved and have left, hope to rejoin when nearer) but my best round was at Royal St. George's.

Lowest Round:

Mizuno MP001 - 9 degrees with a stiff Grafalloy Blue shaft

Titleist 975F - 14.5 degrees S300 shaft

Mizuno MP30 Irons - 2-PW S300 shafts

Cleveland RTG wedges - 53 & 60

Odyssey 2 Ball putter

Best Round:

Titleist 905T - 10.5 degrees with Grafalloy Blue shaft

Titleist 906F4 - 15.5 degrees with Grafalloy Blue shaft

Callaway X16 2 iron - S300 shaft

Titleist ZM Irons - 3-PW S300 shafts

Cleveland RTG wedges - 53 & 60

Ping Redwood Anser Putter

Come to think of it, I've never driven it better than when the Grafalloy Blue was in the bag!

For my best round last season, there were 2 new additions to the bag that day:

1. new Maui Jim sunglasses

2. first use of Volvik S3 ball

I’m sure neither contributed to that great round :D

I remember working a long day and my buddy suggested we play a few holes. 6700 or so. Driver was on. Wedges were dialed in. Approaches to par 5s were pin high in 2. I don’t really remember any great shots, just a lot of consistsnt shots that put me within 15 feet for birdie. Steadiest round of golf I’ve experienced.

My lowest round, which I`ve managed exactly 3 times, was 69 - 3 under. For all of them,I was playing a TM Tour Burner 8* with TT S300 shaft; Wilson Staff 3 and 5 woods, Hogan Apex PC irons 1 to E with Hogan #4 shafts, Hogan Special W grind 56*, Acushnet La Femme Bullseye putter and Titleist DT 100 compression ball.

4 Years ago I had my best ever 9 hole round, a 33...-3, with much more modern equipment.

It's a tie...

Shot 77 (+7) in June 1974

  • Wilson Staff 2, 3 4W - Persimmon heads (I literally broke my driver head during warm-up, first time I had used a Brassie)
  • MacGregor MT irons 2i-10i
  • Wilson Triple Duty Wedge (low-bounce SW)
  • Acushnet Bullseye putter w/ leather-wrap grips

Shot 77 (+5) in February 1979

  • Wilson Staff 1, 3 and 4W
  • Wilson whatever irons and wedges
  • Wilson putter

This February adventure was an oddball round with rented clubs on a strange course! I was on an off-season Marine Reserve "summer camp" in northern California. We got the weekend off in Reno, so two of us decided to play golf. We went to a city course in Reno, and the trees were bare and the rough low because of the time of year. The greens were smooth but bristly, which meant the 8i chip shots went straight as an arrow. I had maybe 28 putts on the day.

I knew it was a charmed round on the back nine. Came to a long par 5: hit an OK drive, but dumped two approach shots. Then, from 40 yards in front of the green, I sank a wedge shot for a birdie! (had two others on the day).

I know... maybe I should try Wilson long clubs 40 years later?
