Best 3 iron or driving iron

I picked up a Bridgestone j33 air muscle 3 iron as a winter experiment. It's got the 85 gram Aldila nv hybrid shaft. It was a demo, in great condition, for $35. I'm hoping it's the answer to some of the long par threes.

See if you can find a Ping Eye2 3i and reshaft it to go either high or low, whatever you want.

I got this idea from a local pro. He took an SGI 3i head, shafted it with a heavy tipped R-flex, and uses it off tee and off fairway.

Srixon U45 is just an effortless club. Super high launch, forgiving, and long. Only downside is I find it difficult to flight down for low bullets off the tee, even at 18 degrees it just wants to launch the ball super high in the air. Surprisingly easy to hit off the deck with a clean lie.

Love my Miura ICL-601. Easy to launch, forgiving and plenty long. Similar to Srixon U45 but you can’t see the back of the club from address. It fits perfectly between T-MB, more forgiving, and the U45, cleaner look.

What club did you drop to game this, your 7 wood?

Actually I didn’t drop anything. I’ve only carried 13 clubs for a long time.

I’ve played D, 3 wood, 7 wood and 4-P with a 54 and 59 degree wedge. I added the 20* driving iron to make it 14 clubs. I don’t need both but rather than choosing based on course I can play both of them.

The original g crossover is a rocket off the tee. Doesn’t look pretty but it’s tennis racket forgiving.

MP-H5 2i in my bag. Loved it so much I put a 4i in the bag to shore up the gapping. Don't like the 4 as much--particularly the offset--but the 2 is phenomenal. No issues with either from any lie. 2 is effortless, I can hoist one up into a green or fire a low spin bullet off the tee. Can only imagine the Fli-His are even better.

T-MB with Steelfiber is money. Makes me wonder why I ever tried a hybrid.

No surprises with ball flight and forgiving enough to stay out of trouble.

I have the 716 T-MB with a hybrid shaft which I am very pleased with. Removed the bronze color on the sole too for a cleaner look!

How? Vinegar?

I’d like to know the answer to that question too. I really don’t want to have to sand it lol

If the metal is anodized, you could submerge the sole in some Greased Lightning cleaner spray and then buff it with some metal polish. It will strip the paint as well, so be advised. I've de-anodized some aluminum Cameron items (bag tags, belt buckle) using it and it worked great.

Im gonna go weird and say I love my J15DF 3-iron. Its a slightly bigger players cavity...but got some jump/heat off the face. It's carries 6-8yards further than my previous iron at the same loft.

Point is, do not discriminate some 'set' 3-irons, often their turf interaction can be better too. Throw a juicy shaft in one and see it come alive

P-790 UDI

If I remember correctly, late march or early April they'll be available w/ Hzrdus Black through TM site.

Worth the wait, trust me!

I'm ordering 4 iron 790 5-pw 730. Will this p790 udi be a better 4 iron for the set or more along the lines of a 3 iron driving iron? If so, I'll just order 5-pw p730 and wait for a 4

P790 UDI is only coming in a 2-iron, so for your application I'd stick with the 790 4i

You got your solid steel ones, you got the hollow steel ones, you got multi compound and steel and permutations of each.

Totally up to you, most all work pretty great if you put a good swing on them.

If you’re just looking to hit it far, not sure which type is the monster there...anyone?

Have an MP18 FliHi 3i with a KBS Proto hybrid shaft. So smooth and easy to get the ball up in the air. It’s a no brainer as a driving iron.

I also have the Nike VPC 2 and 3 irons with KBS tours and will break them out occasionally, when is windy. They go a country mile, dead straight and roll forever. I did not know the true joy of seeing a low, piercing trajectory until I hit these this last fall.

I'm going to purchase one of these DI from Srixin as soon as the store has one it. I play my Z H45 right now.
