2018 United States Open

Davis and his governance are AMs, not pros, and they need to let the actual course greenskeepers set the placements, not a ''committee'' of lawyers, politicians, arse kissers and other assorted thieves heading the USGA. they are not picking out a new USGA logo they are addressing the setup of the National Championship.

No way, then this could turn into that glorified Tour event that they call the PGA Championship.

It's fine the way it is.

The Masters is the perfect example of what a major should be. Challenging, but still get-able on Sunday afternoon if you need to make a run.

Every year we are forced to watch the USGA get in it's own way setting up this tournament.

I mean that’s basically exactly what EH was like last year but then the whole world complained about it anyways.

Leaders and chances of winning

JT at plus 8 ... watch out only one from 5 out that can win

Brian Gay plus 7 ... this would be the final nail in the coffin for another USGA shitfest

Fuyrk plus 7 ... good god

Alapabetrat plus 6 ... just to hear that drunk Diana Murphy try and say that name hammered

Pat Reed plus 6 ... imagine that ! USGA hates him more than they do DJ

Stenson plus 5 ... he will be around until final holes, count on it

Justin Rose plus 4 ... here is your winner kids

DJ plus 3 ... lost the putting mojo, not good

Brooks Koepka plus 3 ... back to back , good chance playoff him and Rose ???

Tony F and Berger ... enjoy the introductions boys but by the turn you will be a distant memory, may not even be finished as the drunk, Davis and his governance hand out the trophy

One thing is for sure--tomorrow is going to be a great day to watch golf! Anyone from 10 over (or more) to the current leaders have a chance to win. It will be a free-for-all for six hours and I'm not going to miss a minute. I can't wait.

I honestly think the course is gonna be a mess. They're gonna try hard and soften it, but all it will lead to is crappy, inconsistent greens. And if grass is already dead or non existent now, it won't be there tomorrow.

And that is going to make watching the last day so compelling--pure chance is as liable to win this thing than any other factor--it will be interesting to see how many changes of lead are going to occur. Hard to imagine anyone in the last four or five groups is going to runaway with the thing.

oranges and apples. The Masters committee wants nothing more the to show case their venue. Year in ..year out we see the same course. That's boring.

Pulling for Gay.. This should end on the lowest note possible.. a 2 hole playoff ....1st hole is two bogeys and 2nd with DJ putting off the green and Gay winning with a bogey vs a Double

That's hilarious. Somewhere Brian Gay is reading this and saying "thanks, dude."

Question for the people out there: Was Rory right? Does the USGA think the players are better than they actually are?

I would up vote this if I could. This tournament grounds them. I imagine Shinnecock members are very proud right now as I would be.

Just finished watching the late starters - wow what a wild day. I haven’t read all the stuff here because I wanted to see the tourney without knowing the results.

This is the US Open. The US Open is not the US Open unless it’s got controversy and upset about the course and the USGA.

I’ve seen these guys take it low. I like one tournament a year - the US Open - to be sadistic torture.

I bet Tony F and Berger are wondering if they could tee off early again, plz.

Only the dumb members would be proud of the course right now. Any course could produce high scores if that is the goal and this event is doing a pretty poor job of representing the qualities that make the course great.

Complain all ya want about how ridiculous and unplayable the course is.

It's the same for every guy in the field.

He who hits the ball through the clowns mouth in the least number of strokes walks away with the giant lolly pop.

Welcome to the US Open.

Why? The scores were identical to the masters this year.

Disagree. Finau and Berger played a MUCH different course than DJ did today.

It’s not the same for every guy in the field.

If Finau or Berger win this it is only because they sucked bad enough Thursday and Friday to be the early group Saturday. They can thank the USGA for putting them in contention.

USGA needs to have a better relationship with mother nature. Im sure Mike Davis will send you and apology.

Never forget the other tournaments that had players 10 back....yes, Van de Velde and Laurie

So it takes one of the biggest collapses in golf history to get to where we got today, and that was one shot less than today anyway

I was there this morning, The best were on the green putting and setting up.

The potential to having a great Saturday with scores like FInau and Berger did in the morning was there.

I will tell you that Berger was 5 under on par 5 16 and missed his birdie by inches.

So show up 6 hours early and practice for a course you won’t see? Lol please

Is that not the case with many PGA tournaments?

The morning conditions are far different than the afternoon?

Still, I was just having fun. There is a problem with these conditions.

Difficult is difficult, and the US Open should be difficult.

But the line is crossed when players are continuously punished after making a good shot,

I'm not a Chamblee fan, but he made an interesting point that these greens of the old world are not designed to accommodate the level of difficulty desired by the USGA.

You know there is luck of the draw in every tourney right?
