Lexi just withdrew RWBO

Recommended Posts

Whatever it is I hope she can heal herself up (physically/emotionally) and come back strong. It sucks to see such an awesome person, let alone golfer, seem to be suffering like this. As a serious competitor, I would have to think it's pretty serious issues going on for her to pull out of this kind of tournament. The pressures she faces and her life style are probably some stuff that most of us can never imagine or begin to experience.

One more reason to be a pro golfer. And I don't mean this as a slight to their profession, but who among us would love to be able to say I'm withdrawing from work for the next one, two, or three weeks to work on myself? Only difference is we take a vacation and do what they do for a living, to a much lower standard, lol. Is a sport fun when you have to work so hard at it? Hope she takes care of what she needs to, she's a class act all around.

It's too easy to speculate as to the reasons for her WD... we may never actually know all of it but issues that her mother is having sounds like that alone could be enough. She just hasn't seemed like she's been having all that much fun out there this year... I have not been watching every minute but she seems almost depressed out there.... I hope she's ok and comes back strong, I enjoy watching her tear it up out there.

We all have personal situations in our lives what's the big deal?

Let's not lose sight of the fact that her Mom has been battling cancer. Hopefully this isn't related to that.

I was actually defending her stance and aplaud her for knowing her limits. She's a young women and I'm sure she is sacrificing her youth to a certain degree for her career choices. As a independent contractor she has ever right to choose her own path.

I Must admit i do struggle when i hear stories like this

Multi Millionaire, 23 years old, playing a sport (she should love) for a living, never had to "work" a day in her life, what has she got to be stressed about??

Unless its a family thing, which is obviously a different story

I believe her grandmother passed away this year, mother has cancer, that should be enough. Maybe a bad break up with that singer? Add in a 23 yr old that spends more time on her “job” than most people who “work” 5 days a week. And then travels by herself 35+ weeks a year, thrown in the frequent travel to and from photo shoots and just the grind of tournaments.

As much as most of us would like it, it’s not an easy life.

Basically she's just taking a week off from an event she never does well in anyway. It won't affect my viewing interest.

However, it's unfortunate that this will likely have a significant negative effect on US TV ratings. Last year the final round of the RWBO was the highest rated LPGA telecast of the year, pulling in over 1.1 million viewers, which is insane for women's golf. More than any other major and the Solheim Cup.

The most popular American women's golfer skipping the most popular event is not good for the LPGA.

Interestingly, Women's British Open is the major she performed the worst. Her best finish was T8 in 2016 which was Woburn. That course was not Link course. With her playing the following week, the break does not seem to be very long. Just an interesting observation.

Three finishes of 17th or better in a row though. Surely she doesn’t think it’s not winnable based on that. The more you play that type of golf the closer you probably get to winning when your that type of talent. Seems like her putting issues might not be as big a factor on those courses over there.

What will be telling is if she shows up in 3 weeks to defend her title in Indy. If she shows up, I'll chalk it up to simply wanting to take a short break. If she skips Indy, I'll have to conclude that it's a deeper issue.

Not gone down well with UK fans. The talk at our club tonight was she just didn't want to travel over to Lytham for a week.

As Argonne says, let's see the follow on sched, but it could have a whiff of the Curtis Strange/Scott Hoch to it.

That's surprising to me, as it didn't seem to be a nail-biter was it? I remember Wie being T3 but I don't recall her having a really close shot at it as the day went on. Trying to figure out why it was so highly viewed (in the US). Not that it was a bad tournament or anything. Maybe a lot of Inky fans? :dntknw: Either way, glad to hear it was highly viewed, the LPGA needs more fans.

Oh, and sorry for thread-jacking a little.

She does say in her Instagram post that she will be at the event INdy, for what that's worth. More interesting will she show up at the Canadian Open which she skipped last year and outside the tour Championship has the largest non-major purse

I think she is just burnt out. She is really gracious with her time and she is getting pulled in every direction. I think her very public struggles with putting and her mother being ill only compounded things. She essentially grew up on tour which must have been spectacularly hard. How do you think she goes on a date? I would love to trade bank accounts with her, but I don't envy her level of famous.

According to her social media, she's doing an appearance at Top Golf in San Antonio next week before heading to Indianapolis for the Indy tourney.

If all she needed was a few weeks off to "recharge," she should've just skipped the Marathon Classic. That would've given her a month off between the KPMG and the WBO.
