My 565s were about a 1/2" longer than I ordered. Srixon must use a strange method to measure length.

I think it's called "not measuring."

HO sung Choi is tied for the lead in Singapore

I will say, the guy can play. And he's parlayed his little act into a couple of exemptions on the PGA tour - so good on him.

Most shots it just seems its so far beyond what Obee posted, which to me is just a walk through - for medical reasons or otherwise. The kicking, the leaning, the club waving...they were showing how Matt Fitzpatrick couldn't even look at him when he's swinging. It has to be exhausting to watch all the post shot antics all day, after every single shot.

MGS and the.putter.channel both used a similar format for their results charts. IMO they are pretty crappy displays of data.

Basically if you don't plow your putts in downhill and full speed, leaving the flag in gives better results. Unless of course you are playing with thick wooden flagsticks. It does make it a little more tedious to get the ball out of the cup but whatever.

The testing that I WANT to see is more like 1 foot past the hole, 2 feet past the hole, 3 feet past the hole. You know, reality.

Center cup on straight putts, off-center a little on straight putts, off-center a lot on straight putts.

Center cup on breaking putts, high side on breaking putts, low side on breaking putts.

So, that's 6 different putts with 3 different speeds. And, really, you could get rid of anything center cup. I think we can all agree the stick is only going to help on those.

And, really, the two putts I care most about are probably "low side slow" and "high side fast". In both of those cases, I can sort of see how those putts might have less time to be captured compared to a ball that would otherwise fall. Those putts might have more time to move across the hole and instead are kicked out sideways over a shorter arc. But, I'd still think that a ball hitting the stick would lose enough energy in those cases to effectively widen the hole.

You know what I'd do right now. . .I'd set up my true roll on breaking putts at the side of the hole, so that putts are barely going in, and if I add just a hair of speed, they bounce out. NOW put the stick in and see what happens. Repeat for slower putts on the low side.

I guess it’s kind of interesting to know that I can make a putt that was 9 feet by, but it’s not particularly useful. Rather than the pin being in, my make percentage would go up by a lot more if I wasn’t a donk that blew it 9 feet by the hole.

I’m a data person so I want to like MGS. There’s always something a bit off about their analysis though. I’m not sure if that’s because their methods are flawed or because the field is too hard to get great data on. I suspect a bit of both.

Cool to see more info on it though. It sounds like I’m hating on it more than I really am, which is my general demeanor. Just think there’s still room for improvement.

Kind of a funny thought I had when you said this: Odyssey released that mallet putter last year that had a big hole in the middle to allow you to pick up a ball from the hole. I’m trying to think of a more poorly timed idea and nothing comes to mind. The guy that designed it probably finished 3 months of hard work and then the USGA announced the new rule the next day.

I just can't wrap my head around the choice of 3, 6, and 9 feet past as their test speeds.

Can we start a gofundme to get cash to run our own test? I think City's on the right track with the different type of putts you'd really want to test. We can build a completely flat platform, that can be tilted for us to test at different slope percentages. Buy one of those ball rolling contraptions, and we're good.

Lol, I thought we were waiting on the MGS test because they were using real people to test? This looks like another version of the stimpmeter test - for lack of a better word because I cant remember the guys name on YouTube that did the test.

But I think this says pretty much what that test did?

My real question is - for putts that are rolling at 6' past and 9' past speeds - on putts that are that bad, how often are you even hitting the cup anyway? If I hit a putt thats at 9' past speed, chances are it is nowhere near the hole.

Reading through City's suggestions - thats exactly what I would want to see as well.

Thats where I'm at. Only rolling "20 putts per situation" doesnt seem like a lot - for a study we waited a while for.

So if I read the data right (?) in every situation they tested - for whatever they were worth - they made a higher % of putts with the pin in.

One of these tests said that at holing speed (which wasn’t defined) flag in or out made no difference ... but they didn’t give a great indication they had actually tested that.

If flag or our out only makes a difference if the putter explodes in your hand I’m taking it out for the short ones. I’ll leave it in on 30 footers because I’m extremely unlikely to make them, it probably does help with depth perception, and those are putts I could conceivably bash past the hole.

But I mean hitting a 10’ putt 5’ past the hole doesn’t happen unless somebody gives me an Oakmont invite.

Everyone in the HBD one and done golf pool:

Please check your email. I had to make an executive decision on the Tour Championship due to it's unconventional handicapping of the field and extreme purse. Thanks for understanding.

Curious how your pool handled this, mine decided to end the year after the BMW.

I did the same. I considered pro-rating the purse to 10% for tour championship but couldn’t get over the stench of handicapping the field.

I thoroughly enjoyed the NLU show last night. Thoroughly. I think 9 holes/1 hour is probably the perfect length.

Other observations:

  • I know it's a small sample size, and I'm sure they played it up for the show, but how can TFT be a 6 (IIRC) with that short game?
  • Randy may have been the star of the show. He is a great mimic of all the mannerisms and sayings that we hear on a weekly basis from the network on-course reporters.
  • They need to invest a couple hundred bucks in a teleprompter so DJ isnt constantly looking down at his computer to pick up his next line.
  • For all the crap they give TFT for his "wipey fade", wasn't it Soly consistently in the right trees.
  • Seeing it in action made me much more interested in playing air/wolf/hammer.

A few more thoughts on the Baddomes Wolf League NLU Wide World of Golf.

Overall, I really enjoyed it. 10/10 will bang future iterations.

Big Randy, not surprisingly, was a big highlight. His commentary and interviews were great. The simulated on course reporter mic, pack, and headphones were a nice touch.

Tron and Soly playing added zero to it, in my opinion. I'd much rather see 4 pros go at it out there. I think we could see times where the pros have a big advantage. Like where Lebioda could use the "spit back" and really only have to worry about one guy (the other pro) being a threat against him.

DJ Pie alone in the booth left something to be desired. He was fine. Take Soly off the course and put him in the booth with Pie, and I think you'd really have something.

Tron getting irritated at Randy for being "such a distraction" was pure gold. I was thinking to myself "of course that guy would whine about this."

Exactly. And that's why you have to leave the amateurs in it. The replay of the "wrist" and the "shank" was gold, and Big Randy just destroying pros and am's bad shots was gold. Getting strokes against pros makes it more interesting.

Big Randy and "throwing it back to the booth" were the highlights. It was funny to see a non-pro announcer (like Big Randy) talk over shots and heavily fall into repeating phrases ("well struck") and often adding nothing.

Trust Fund's irritation was classic and fully expected. I thought he might hold it in check for 9 holes. No such luck. "it's sooooo distracting having you there. Can you cover you mouth with a book." Yo, Trust Fund. . .do you even understand what's happening, why you're putting this on?

I also liked how it was completely random what they bleeped and what they didn't.

It was a sweet spot of "production value" where at least it's edited OK, and the mics are good, but they have no experience.

I laughed a lot.
