1/3rd if the pool picked CHIII. Me included. Least efficient way to make up ground!

almost went with Cantplay.

I'm not worried about making up ground in week 3.

i'm not either. BUT. I mean it's CHIII. One of my rules is never pick a guy who you don't think have a good chance of winning that week. And YES i did take Abraham Ancer. and YES i am in second to last place.

gsrjc - I'll shoot you a PM re the NCA.

The MGS study is pretty surprising in terms of the degree to which leaving the pin in helps.

3' 6' and 9' doesn't seem like the best variety to me. I would have wanted to see 6"; 1'; 2'; 3'; 6'; 9'.

The 6' and the 9' are basically poor lag putts (nobody's blowing it 6' past the hole on a 5' putt). So its just quantifying what we already knew--if you hit a 40' putt too hard, the pin will help. Still, its interesting to see that if you hit it 6ft past and inside the cup but not dead center, you'll hole an extra 3 putts out of 10. And even when you miss, you're 15" closer.

The 3' test is more meaningful. It would apply to lag putting but also 5-15' putts that you might hit a bit too hard. Offcenter hits are more than twice as likely to drop. But then unexpectedly, the ones that still miss, are twice as far from the hole. I guess that makes sense though. The ball would hit the back of the cup and pop up. That's going to suck more engergy from the ball than a glacing blow of the pin.

But when the data shows such huge differences at every level, why wouldn't they narrow the variables to find the inflection points?

I really was back and forth on who to pick.

If you want the greatest chance of picking a winner, you have to take Rahm, I think.

But there are just gonna be some of these scrubby field type events during the year, and I'm thinking that's when you take a lower tier guy. I'd rather be firing Chucky Trip Sticks (which we did) this week, than having to fire him in an elite field event.

I'm discounting world #1 Rose because of playing less, the equipment change, and his caddie being out. Now watch him go win.

Dang it!

Opened by bottle of Snapple (Diet Half 'n Half) and the whole bottom of the bottle just dropped off. Now I have a lap full of Snapple. And, I am still thirsty! I've never seen anything like this happen. I popped the top, read the little factoid on the lid - Elephants are the only mammals that can't jump ( I beg to differ. I haven't gotten airborne in several years), and whoosh. Glad I am wearing dark pants.

Went solo with Ryan Palmer. Depends on which RP shows up - the one that makes birdies in bunches or not at all.

Really surprised more didn't pick Cantlay. Rahm is playing well and never bet against Rose, but want to wait to see how the Homna's treat him. CHIII will make you money but not sure about the W.

Is the Rip Van Winkle 10 worth waiting in line for? MoCo is getting some but it's first come first serve.

No.

But then again - I think there is so much good stuff out there, I dont think anything is worth waiting for.

I'd bet at least...50% of the people who buy them have no interest in drinking it and are just buying and reselling them.

Really, I just feel like CH3 is kind of "in form" right now and there's no guarantee of that as the season goes along.

Haven't seen Cantplay play yet and I actually think I'll have a bead on him later this season and maybe he plays in something dumb with a short field like the Zurich and he'll be a better pick. Or, he REALLY comes into his own this year, and you can use him in something bigger.

I don't like guys in their first event, like Rose, with new equipment.

Rose is using an Axis putter this week. I'd like to swing one of those some day. My putter is actually "onset". Those axis putters are way off-set.

Questions from a #ThrillaintheVilla at Pinehurst rookie:

1. Are we allowed to walk all the rounds? Are most participants walking?

2. Assuming we're walking, I'm looking to upgrade from my World of Golf bungee corded on cart to a Clicgear or CaddyTek. I see the CaddyTek is about half what a Clicgear is. Am I giving up much getting a CaddyTek, and can I still use my walking bagstand bag with either?

i didn't consider anyone who hadn't played one of the last two tournaments. 7 of the last 8 sony winners played the TOC. 9 of the last 10 winners of the Career builder played TOC or Sony. that struck out cantlay. i don't think the stat matters. i think it makes sense that you're more likely to win after tourney reps than after a 3 month layoff. like daniel berger

Caddy Tek is every bit as good as Clic.

I was actually trying to figure out how many miles I have on mine. It's probably over 2000. It's got a couple of nicks, and broken parts (like water bottle holder), but for how much I bang it around, I think it's been great.

As far as straps/wheels/getting my bag around, it's still tip-top.

See below :

I guess you have to walk number #4 and #2 Or play cartpath golf.

Push carts could be rented on number four

Should I take a cart or caddie?

We believe that caddies and forecaddies have the greatest impact on the golf experience. They help you with shot selection, read greens, provide local knowledge and lore, rake bunkers, clean golf balls, and generally make sure your Pinehurst golf experience is one you won’t forget. We highly encourage guests to utilize a caddie on Pinehurst No. 2 and No. 4. Many golfers enjoy forecaddies on other Pinehurst courses, allowing them to ride in a cart still enjoying the normal caddie services.

Caddie fees are paid upon registration at the golf shop. Rates are as follows:

Single Premium Caddie: $90

Double Bag Caddie: $65 per player

Forecaddie: $30 per player

(We recommend a $30 gratuity per bag for walking caddies and $20 per bag for forecaddies.)

Please keep in mind that carts are restricted to paths on course No. 2 and No. 4. Carts are allowed to ride the fairways of all other courses.

Pull Cars are available on a trial basis in 2018 for course No. 4 only. No reservations required.

I bought a caddy tek from Costco and it works splendidly. I’ve only used it once for 9 holes though...

Pushcart walking is the game changer.

I'm glad a bought a Clic years ago when they were more reasonably priced. The accessories you can add make the experience so much more convenient. I don't know if there is a spot on the CaddyTek, but the suicide knob makes a huge difference in using the cart.

My customer walks to work. He walks home from work without a shirt on most of the year because of the suns impact on his carcadian rhythms.

One of the great things about sales is that you get to build relationships with so many people that are different from you. He and I are pretty different. Technically I’ve reassigned his account but I saw the article and sent it to him because I know how important he considers sun.

I see in your sig you have your putter bent to 78.5º.

What's the story with that? Is the idea that you want to stand more upright and still have your eyes over your putter? (or, get your hands away from your body a little?)

I've always wondered about getting a putter bent that much because I tend to "get over" my putter and when I do, I raise the heel off the ground.

There's a couple pros who putt like that, so I never worried about it, but I'm kind of interested in the idea of really bending a putter upright.

E.g. Stricker. . .

This is how I've putted since my putting lesson @ 5 years ago. Sort of raising my hands/the heel of the putter was more a byproduct of trying to get the putter shaft in line with my forearms but it seems to work fine nonetheless.

I saw that John Smoltz was playing this week with a new putter that stands up by itself. I think we mentioned it before but its the first time he's used it in competition.
