I wonder how much of the mental block comes down to just not believing it helps. Because I would think it would give you more confidence if you know the flag increases your odds.

 

But if you see every real study conclude that it helps, then hear your buddy swear the flagstick knocked his putt out, and you treat those as equal countervailing evidence, I dont know what to tell you.

 

Of course, discomfort is real and immeasurable. But it's hard for me to believe a player couldn't overcome that by playing a few rounds with the flag in.

I don't want to try and definitively say there's one best answer for all people. just want to learn what percentage of the golfing population is as crazy as me, and actually putts worse at close range with it in :). I'm not doing anything differently based on any of these tests. It's coming out at around 10ft and in.

I'm having flashbacks to a midterm in college for classical mechanics. Something about shooting particles at an atom and figuring out the scattering distribution or something. It came down to integrating over a sphere. I only managed to get the answer because I had done that exact practice question from the text book the night before.

Agree with this. To me its taken a few rounds and it *still* feels weird. But lets say I read "human test results" for putting with the pin in. And in the 0-10 hdcp range, the participants made way fewer putts with the pin in. My first question would be - is it the first time they have putted with the pin in? Because - at least for me - there was a very real mental thing going on the first few times out.

 

Its the reason I've hit the putting green for a half hour or so every time I went to the range the last month or so. But if there are testers that are crazies like Fabb who mentally checked out over every 10 footer with the pin in because it was so new to them? Seems like that could throw the results off. I guess that is only *if* you believe that there is a mental hurdle to get over. Which I do.

For me there is a real mental aspect that I didn't really realize until the last couple of rounds I played with the flag left in. During practice rounds where me and my buddies where just kinda slapping shots around and not keeping score we seemingly would make a lot more putts. Figured it was just golf karma and a relaxed, no care kind of thing. Of course you make all the putts when you aren't really trying. While keeping score during the last couple of rounds with the pin in it seemed as if (no we didn't keep stats) we made more putts. Maybe when I saw the pin in it was my minds way of telling me to relax and be confident. Time will tell but so far I like leaving the stick in.

So in this temperature, apparently 1 hr epoxy cures like 24 hour. At least the snow isn't melted yet.

 

Even if I wasn't reshafting my irons, tip weights would have had to go in. I really like these Srixon heads but even at -1/4" they were longer than standard. And at those lengths the swing weight was around D1. I'm not overly picky but that's just too light for me.
