Really looked forward to our MGA kickoff event tomorrow. Captains choice scramble, pick the best two to play. Will be nice to get away from work/news stuff and just have a fun morning.

Skated out of work early yesterday to go walk 9 before braving the grocery store for necessities (i.e. beer, frozen pizza, velvetta, rotel, and goldfish). Ended up pulling a Tex and getting around in 1:10. Didn't shoot well but it was a lovely day for a walk, with a few sips of bourbon thrown in for good measure. Still getting used to the one lengths. The F9s don't have the low launching 5 iron like the F7s did, so that's good. Distance across the set is more than my previous set so it's messing with me some. I should probably spend some range time with them...been playing instead of the range when I have time.

 

I blind purchased a pair of the Asics boa shoes and those came in while I was playing. Maybe these will be the magic shoes that are actually comfortable enough to walk 18 in. I'll see how they really feel the next time I play but just walking around the house...man, so comfortable. I mean like running shoe level comfort. A millions times more comfortable than the FJ SLs. I normally wear a wide but these are a fabric material with overlays so they seem to accommodate my wide foot better than a lot of shoes. If anybody has tried them, let me know your thoughts.

@Johnny T Asics makes great shoes, I wore them exclusively back in my volleyball days.
I'm fully spikeless now and my old dryjoy tours haven't been take off the shelf in months. The UA Showdown is a nice alternative to FJ Pro SL and come in a Sunbrella version. The cork footbed in them is super comfortable.

Who has had luck with insoles, either custom or off the shelf?

 

My Adidas golf shoes are very comfortable, but I need a little bit more arch support. Anyone solved that problem already?

I wear superfeet black insoles in all my shoes, domes. Thumbs up.

High arches and always used Superfeet. But don’t need them with Adidas Boost shoes

@baddomes I've used the superfeet green insoles and really liked them (was battling plantar fasciitis) I tried a knockoff version I bought off Amazon last year. They were about half the price and worked decently well but wore out much quicker. Plus they squeaked when I walked/ran. Highly annoying. 2/10 would not bang again.
@GooseHook agree on Asics. I've had a few of their running shoes over the years and used some GT-1000s that I absolutely loved during half marathon training. That is part of the reason I decided to give them a try. Hopefully their golf shoes are equally as good as their running shoes.

Awesome day out for the mens group season opener. We ended up finishing second which was good for @ $40 in shop credit pp which isnt terrible. By all accounts though we should have won, we finished second by a shot and had to take three bogies in the last two holes. Wind was picking up and my teammates were tapping out a bit. Been dealing with a naggin neck tweak the last week or so and its just never been the same. But I tucked a couple of hand warmers into my neck warmer and it worked perfect. Still really happy with how good I'm hitting the ball considering I've played a very limited amount in the last month or so.

I tried the new TM ball with the truvis/aligner on it. Love the ball, fells good and the way they designed it, the alignment works great. I just cannot get over how much the ball spins with wedges. Its the one thing Iove about the Chromesoft, doesnt spin near as much.

48 hour ribs came out tonight, cooked up with a red wine/garlic reduction. So simple and freaking good. Paired with the Murlarkey Smokehouse Whiskey, should be asleep by 9.

The sourdough came out great. Easily the best Neapolitan crust I've made. Better flavor and better texture. The later might be unrelated to the sourdough. 100% 00 caputo and 62% hydration. Much better than 00 with ADY or the pre-made dough I bought at whole foods.

 

A cool oven method I learned from Tony Gemignani is to use two stones (or better yet, steels) and the broiler. Start as close to the broiler as you can, then move to the other stone to finish the bottom. Each stone cools significantly when you put the pizza on it, and this method simulates moving the pizza to a hot spot in a brick oven. I thought it worked really well for Neapolitan.

When I used the weber, I used this:

I had a grate below the sleeve where I built my fire and put the pizza stone. Then a second grate above the sleeve with a second stone and covered the whole thing in tin foil so the heat didn't get lost in the dome. It worked fairly well, but it was hard to feed the fire in the back.

Uh oh. I really hope golf course closings don't start spreading. Walking 18 seems like a low-risk activity, and a walking-only policy seems prudent. But there's also the employees to consider.

Seems like there can be a compromise position with courses such as no carts and no food and beverage, but let people walk the course as it’s really no different than a park.

I want to be happy that I shot an 81 this early in the season and had 3 birdies, but then I remembered I had 5 doubles. Couple of hosel rockets cost me dearly at the worst timing.

It also kinda sucked that my best drive of the year so far was so good that it ended up in the creek I hadn't been able to reach before.

The GM at WoMan today said business was booming this weekend. Higher than normal. Could be the last gasp before golf and everything else shuts down.

Our social distancing rule was that if someone could touch you with a club it was too close. I think golf is one of the safest things you can do that involves leaving the house.

Its hard to imagine golf being open by next weekend. And just as hard to imagine I won’t have a roommate that’s worried and would be majorly upset about it. Stuff went crazy the last 4-5 days. May be just as different in another 4 or 5.

Not just 4-5 days, but with the rate of escalation I do not even want to consider what 10 days from now looks like.

I think I have a solid business case to build a simulator in a future home.

Played Northwest today and was paired with a country club type - his club was closed. Course was Fairly busy with the trusty, rugged, asian push cart brigade. Guy said he was a member at Congressional after we exchanged phone numbers and touched putters ...

Saturday - ended up somehow getting putting lessons and putter fitting at 2nd Swing. Guy adjusted my putter also. I’m also not sure how long the putting corral and the hitting bays will be open. Anyways I was proven right - my idiotic insistence on using a face balanced long neck blade putter is ideal for me. However guilty of every putting sin and captured on video. Humbling.

They will fit and adjust even the used putters - did not know that.

The problem is that in order for you to do that, you still need a few staff at the course. Front of house, pro shop, maintenance guys - even if its not that many people, all of them have kids that are out of school now and may need to be watched or family members out of work etc. Speaking from experience, its not just as easy (unfortunately) as saying eh, we'll close everything and leave the course open. MV has taken out about half the tables in our grill and restaurant and that seemed to work pretty well on Saturday. I am not sure the course will close but I wouldn't be surprised.
