Hit this about 2 weeks ago while demoing the 400max. A Srixon demo van was in the lot and he was talking with the owner so my instructor grabbed me the 785 / 9.5 with a hazardus 55 S shaft, which will be stock on this driver, not upgrade. Was an outdoor range, very forgiving, would consider just not at $100+ plus more than the 400.

I thought that I saw in some of the review going around that the price point was going to be around $349

Rick Shiels and TXG both have video reviews up and it seems like a winner to me. As long as the best drivers out there as expected but very forgiving. Shiels hit one as high on the toe as you possibly can without sending the ball to the moon and still got a good result and the same with a very low heel hit. I'd definitely be looking at it were I in the market for a new big stick.

Saw Shiels' video as well; I'm intrigued. I'm not much of a driver junkie - I played the same driver for about 8 years up until just recently - but this new Srixon has me interested.

Looks like a winner, but price point is quite high. Said to be offering no charge upgrades for some 'real' shafts - like Hzrdus Handcrafted. That would put it in line with other top tier drivers/pricing.

If you don't required the high cost shafts, then their driver price is high (example = Cobra F8+ with no charge upgrade shafts for $299). Lots of the same tech in most new drivers (carbon crown, adjustable hosel, adjustible weighting, forgiveness across the face, etc).

This series is supposed to be a true upgrade to the 45/65 predecessors. I'm going to put in my order for one. I currently own a 565 (which I love) but have been playing an M3 for most of the year. I think I want to try the 785.

Need to see this stick in person. I liked everything about the 765, almost beat out my ltd pro, but the Srixon just looked closed at address, which I couldnt overcome in my peabrain.

Thanks Dave! Man that still looks odd to my eye. Im so used to how my LTD Pro sets up. Maybe its just that.

Regarding the no upcharge shafts - I was told that is set to end on 9/14 so better order now if you want it. After 9/14, there will be a charge. I used a site sponsor to get a quote.

Have to agree with you on this one. As much as I want to like it, it looks odd and I am not a fan of the alignment aid on the crown either. I am sure it is a fantastic product but I am going to have to pass on this one. I feel like Srixon nails it with their players irons every year....a complete package in every category. The drivers however, just seem to be missing a piece of the puzzle and in my opinion, it is always something to do with the setup position or with something visual.

Humble update.....stopped by my local equipment shop and I have to say that the Z785 looks pretty darn good from address. I am still not a huge fan of the alignment aid but overall, it looked much better in person than I thought it would.....appeared to sit square at address. Pleasantly surprised.

Nice

I was able to take advantage of a promotion with Srixon and my new Z785 9.5* driver with HandCrafted HZRDUS yellow 6.0 showed up yesterday. Took it to the range last night to compare against my Rouge SZ.

Initial thoughts / comparisons:

  • A much taller head compared to the Cally.
  • The setup suited my eye pretty well - didn't look closed or open.
  • The alignment aid was fine - again nothing that would cause any concern for me.
  • Had a slightly higher sound than the Cally - certainly not something bad, just different. Probably had something to do with the quality of the ball also.
  • My miss is toe side and low.
    • I moved from the Epic to Rouge TY due to my miss being more forgiving on the Rouge.
    • The Srixon did seem to be a little less forgiving on my misses than the Rouge.

[*]Shots that were square on the face, felt great and flight was nice. Carry with the range balls on center hits were pretty much the same for each club. The range had a "green" with a flag at 260 and I was landing both of them within a few yards of each other.

[*]Can't comment on roll out due to the way the range is setup.

[*]Launch did seem a little higher on the Srixon vs the cally, but to many variables to know if this was the clubs, the indian, or the balls. Really won't be able to tell until I get on the course and definitely on a monitor. The loft of the cally is 0.5* less(9* vs 9.5*) than the Srixon so this has some influence also.

    • My signature has the Evenflow on the Cally, but I changed back to the Aldila Silver a few days ago (Just FYI)

I will have a better feel for it after playing with both over the weekend. First impression is that it is a quality driver and based upon the promotional price I was able to get it for, it could turn into a good backup or something that I use just to change things up a bit every now and then, but I don't see it becoming my everyday go to vs. the Rouge SZ.

I dont understand why anyone would be intrigued with this. It looks like a generic driver. Almost something Wilson staff would put out. No movable weights. Nothing to set it apart from any other driver...

It's an internal system. It seems weird to not have 48 ways to adjust a driver, but 5 years ago only 50% of the offerings allowed that.

Ping doesn't have a ton of adjustability mor does TS2. Maybe they hit it on the head.

Maybe. Ping does have a G400, G400 max, SFT, LST...sorta fits everyone's needs.
