Rich Lerner’s obsession with Champ’s body measurements is borderline weird. He keeps talking about it every 5mins.

YJS is looking much better. I guess not making the Tour Championship gave him the much needed kick in the butt. I’m also glad to see Harold Varner playing well. Dude is one heck of a player.

Champ waiting for the green to clear on these 374 yard par 4s is not going to help pace of play improve for any of us.

After he hits several of those awol he will figure it out. Courses just don't fit bigger drives than we have. I'm starting to see that.

That's when he hits a smooth iron 276yrds. All that with a 31" waist, amazing.

They are really propping this Champ character. I hope he can handle the heat.

-8 with a 65 today and tied 8th with YJS 4 strokes down with 36 holes left I'd say he's doing ok..

I know hype is almost always just that, hype. I think Champ is going to be one of the greats. He's doing exactly what Tiger did... Summerlin is a par 68 for Champ. I have this odd feeling the current crop of "young guns" are going to have a hard time dealing with Champ. He swings effortless unlike JT who swings all out. This kid will have lots of wins and a few majors. :D

So Varner’s ball moved after he addressed it and grounded his club in the fairway. He was given a one-stroke penalty. If the ball had moved on the green after he addressed it, they would only have penalized him if they were more certain than not that he caused it to move?

I hate that rule. Moved 1/4 inch from grounding his club and he gets hit a stroke. Just seems lacking in basic “fairness” to me.

Bryson gave Varner a wrong rule interpretation too. Bryson said that a few times he put his club behind the ball and the ball moved and he only had to put the ball back without a penalty. Maybe Bryson meant on the green, but Jacobson also got the ruling wrong too. What would have happened if they hadn’t called an official over? No difference - just a one-stroke penalty?

Conversely, I love that rule. It’s black and white, everyone gets the same ruling. You say 1/4 inch, what if it moved a 1/2, what about 3/4? At what point does a penalty become reasonable? Right now, it’s a fair and consistent process and Joe Nobody gets the same ruling as Tiger.

Next year when the rule becomes some sort of near certainty that the player moved it, it’s going to be purely subjective and generally a clusterF.

It’s already subjective if it happened on the green. The USGA changed that rule after DJ at the US Open.

Probably shouldn't delve into it on this thread, and I'm sure MANY will disagree, but i think if it moves a 1/4 inch or ten feet and it was unintentional you should just replace it. No penalty. Dumb rule. Just my dumb opinion.

The obsession with Champ is annoying. They were making up yardages on his drives just to talk more about him.

He’s the story fall PGA Tour golf needs to add some excitement

Seems like everyone, especially the announcers, were dancing around the elephant in the room. Varner seriously claimed that he did not ground his club? I counted five times, myself. Even David Duval, whom I really like, was claiming something to the effect of, "He was in his routine, and probably didn't realize he had grounded his club." At one point, Duval even said, "... I couldn't tell you if I ground my club when I go through my routine..." That BS is about waist deep. A professional who has hit countless thousand of shots in his career doesn't know whether he grounds the club or not during his pre-shot routine?!!

I'll bet Johnny Miller would have said what I was thinking. HV3 was flat out lying.

Sad, 'cause I like him.
