Yeah I saw it. Appeared to me he reached in from the side, to avoid stepping on Glover's line, but placed the mark behind the ball. And replaced it in the same spot.

To be honest, I think most of them do this. But, they don't make the mistake that Lexi did, by doing it in one move, when the camera caught the whole thing continuously. They mark the ball from the side, let some time go, then remark the ball from behind. I've only seen it for about 50 years, and it doesn't seem like it's going to stop.

Maybe we are reading the post differently? I read it as "he marked it ON the side and replaced it BEHIND" but it could be read as "he marked it FROM the side (behind the ball) and replaced it from behind in the same place".

Watched it several times now. Sloppy mark, coming from the side, does not look quite behind the ball. But the remark was carefully behind the mark. Probably just a bit of an adjustment to get a slightly better lie.

 

I'm not saying he would have missed that short putt. But, Lexie got penalized for doing basically the same thing, but in one motion.

 

I want to make something up? No. But, sorry that you have a problem with the truth.
