Pretty stoked - going to be able to source a 'dead stock' brand new MC 501 4 iron head from Miura directly through a contact.  My current raw set is 5-P...once I have the new head, Ill probably send to Mr. Oughton in CA...for those wondering, he is currently working 5-7 weeks out on turnaround time.  Tis the season...

What's the best way to get that look?  Just let it go naturally or is there a specific finish you apply?

Plum Brown is a product made by Birchwood Casey if I'm not mistaken. Usually used on guns.

+1, and same for gun blue. Or leave them raw and you can strip them back to “new” whenever you want. This isn’t rocket surgery here folks haha. If a simpleton like me can figure it out I’m sure others can too.

Can anyone suggest some other viable options for stripping irons raw - aside from Oughtons?  They have a 7 week turnaround, and I am hoping that once I get my new 4 iron from Miura next week, I would like to get this shipped out ASAP for someone to strip.  Much appreciated in advance...

Flannigan's isn't taking work on until April 1. 

 

You are gonna face backup issues anywhere right now. 

 

Continental Golf is even working off about 6-7 weeks too. 

 

Those are probably your top 3 and they are all at least 6-7 weeks.

Oughtons is only 20 plus shipping, which seems about a quarter of what Flannigan's is asking per club.

Just finished up my Titleist ZBs. Stripped chrome plating, wire wheeled rust off, then let soak in white vinegar and lime juice for 2hrs, cleaned with soap and water, and sprayed down with Maxima MPPL. No heat or anything. 

 

Very happy with how they came out!

Mix of 16oz Hydrogen peroxide, 2oz white vinegar, 2 tablespoon of salt in a spray bottle.  Spray, spray some more, and more. Let dry then I brushed it with a bristle brush make it to where rust didn’t come off on your hands every time you touch it.

Had chrome stripped on a set of irons by a local electroplater, looks like a tiny bit of chrome left on the toe area of a couple irons

 

any diy ways to get this last bit off? I’d rather not have to send them back to the electroplater, could I just hit this with some low grit sandpaper and work from there ?

Yes. Or a file. Or blade. Or even (careful) touch on a belt grinder.

Just got my P770s back from Doug Oughton, man do they look…right. @TaylorMade Golf should pay close attention, this is the way! Doug did another great job, as evidenced all over this site, but thanks to this forum I found him and will be sending any future work his way also!

My favorite head, evidenced by a second set - a little acetone and careful steel brush on a bench grinder and here they are, in all their glory, awaiting X7s and those first few precious drops of morning dew.
