Any Long Term Srixon 785 Irons Reviews??

Thanks to all for the quick responses. I have not hit the z785’s yet but plan to go through a fitting with them in the next month or two. All the positive feedback I’ve read about them certainly have me considering making a switch... I played every generation of AP2’s since they came into existence... I haven’t even considered giving any other iron a look until now.

I can see why since you've play the u85! I have one too - great club. Forgiveness isn't greatly different but I do think thin shots will definitely be better with the AP2 because of all of the tungsten and low CG. Personally I think the 745 are a bit more forgiving if that is your miss. Toe forgiveness goes to AP2 all day. The Srixon you can think of as a step between a blade and the AP2. Definitely more help than a blade but the difference isn't as big as the leap from a blade to the AP2. There are still new sets of 745 floating around and if you could find some and reshaft with PX 6.0 (which I assume you were fit for) you may love them. Short blade length like AP2. IMO the best club Srixon has ever made.

I find the 765 to be more forgiving than my 714 and 716 AP2 but that could be shaft change and how I am delivering face to ball. Also I find the sole of the Srixon really helps my swing.

The characteristics that appeal to me the most about the z785’s are:

1.) Their shape. I really like that high pinched toe look.

2.) The V sole grind

3.) The blade length. I prefer a longer blade length opposed to a shorter blade length. It give me more confidence and gives the appearance of more “real estate” to strike the ball with...

I just got a set 4-pw with modus 120x coming from mp18sc modus 105x. Verdict is still out for long term because i have only hit them on two occasions but lets hope this honeymoon phase never ends because I love them so far

u85 driving iron is the best purchase I have ever made for golf. On firm fairways its like cheating. Even misses are so much better than a 3 wood or driver miss. First time in my life a have a go to shot if I have to hit fairway.

Agreed. I absolutely love my U85. Most forgiving driving iron I’ve ever hit.

Used the 785's last year. I really liked them but they didn't spin enough, I hit too long and couldn't hold greens. Switching to zforged this year, played 965s for a couple years and played better with them.

I went with these with 105 gram Modus 3 shafts and I love them. I think it's funny people comment on the lines, the offset, and the overall looks. Once I am standing over the ball, I don't notice a thing about the club. That is the way I want it. These clubs do it. When I swing them they feel so natural (probably the shaft), but off the face the feel is amazing.

They aren't at all gimmicky, which probably means they don't sell that well. It's probably not easy to market a single piece forging.

These are on the top of my list for new irons. Combo set with the 585.

Coming down to the short irons. How are the gap, PW,... for chips/ pitches/ touch shots vs the 585?

I have a combo set with just the 5 iron being 585 the rest up to the pw 785. when I was demoing, the feel of the 785's won out especially on the short irons. the 585's kind of felt hot , springy when chipping. Almost went with all 585's though and just chip with my raw RTX's. The 585's are really powerful and feel good for the type of iron that they are.

purchased a set today with S400.

 

the feel, the turf interaction the distance (VERY long for mid size / smaller irons). They feel unreal as well.

First new irons in 10 years!

Srixon cannot be beaten for forged CBs. I’m sorry but there is nothing better.

IMO feel and look at address is much better. All of them are great irons but you’ll be happy I think.

Got my first full 18 with them yesterday and they just flat our perform, and in my opinion they are much more forgiving than they appear. I really hope this honeymoon phase never ends. Getting used to distances will take some time and I do find it a little harder to fade them than my old set but overall happier with them

They do blend well. I have 4-6 Iron in 585 and 5-PW in 785. I usually go with 4-5i in 585 and 6-PW in 785,but once in a while I will change it up. the 585's launch a little higher. Both are great clubs and I have played them for about a year now.

Beautiful high straight shots all day.

785s are a forged, forgiving, precision instrument.

Like the P790 had a baby with a blade. LOL

SAME setup....Z585/Z785 combo 4-6i z585 7-pw z785.....different feel with each as you have one piece vs multi construction......regardless, the transition is seamless and the Z585 long irons do their job....ask The Champion Golfer 2019 Shane Lowry.....

I gamed the 785 for a season and a half. Absolutely amazing irons. Great feel, looks, and control. Paired with the right shaft, these are some of the best players irons out there. Although, the Cobra Pro CB's have kicked them out of the bag, I will always have a soft spot for the 785s. My only gripe with them is that distance control was inconsistent at times. I remember hitting the perfect 8 iron only for it to go 10 yards over the green. I dropped another ball and hit the same flushed shot and landed on the middle of the green.

I think the issue is the V sole can mask slightly heavy contact and still feel pure whilst dropping the spin. Proper downward blow these are the most consistent irons for distance I’ve ever hit.

Agree on different feel between the two and yes best set up in years. I just tested these against 2019 P790's today and they are longer, more solid and consistent, and feel so much better.

Best clubs I have ever owned. Moved from 716 AP2 to the 765's which I thought were close to perfect but after nearly two years with the 785's I prefer them by a wide margin. I can't see myself buying anything other than Srixon irons again to be honest. Here in Australia they also seem to be the best of the brands to deal with. Every club was perfect spec and supplied without the delays you usually see with the larger brands.

I am finding that that these clubs are brutal on thin/leading edge hits. They are almost Z965 like in that category. So I guess if your miss is thin and an early release and you don't have the time and energy to work on it, maybe you should consider a different club.
