All summer. Just re opened this weekend.

I was going to ask if anyone had been out there this weekend and was wondering about the conditons.  Sounds like we may give it another couple weeks to get the greens rolling smooth.

Cedar Crest is opening today so courious to hear the reviews on it.

I came into town with some buddies and we played Tierra Verde yesterday for the first time. The course was pretty wet and you weren't getting much roll out in the fairways. The greens were a little bumpy here and there but putted pretty well overall. I really enjoyed it and would definitely play it again.

We played Waterchase Tuesday and it was in fantastic shape. The greens were fast and smooth as a pool table.

Hey All,

This might be a loaded question, and apologies if it was already discussed on this thread.  I am traveling mostly solo next week (tagging along with my wife for her work trip) and looking to do nothing but golf and check out the local scene.  We are staying in Trophy Club so looking for the best public courses within about a 30-50 minute drive.

In addition to a course recommendation, I am hoping for suggestions on local breweries, sports pubs, etc. to grab a bite to eat after the round.

I appreciate any input!

Nice!

Is Fossil Creek back to a nice course now i know it was a little hit or miss in years past?  What about the redo of Iron Horse?

Thank you!  It looks like Grapevine does not allow single player bookings.  I ended up booking Luna Vista for Tuesday afternoon.  Logistically it works for me to play there as I have a bit of a time crunch. Hopefully that's a decent track.

I also am planning on playing Waterchase Wednesday morning if the tee times are still available.

I would pick another course but that is just me.  Texas Star is much better and not that far away.  I would also probbaly play Bear Creek over it as well.

Quick disclaimer that I haven't played hardly any of the courses that other posters are mentioning except for Texas Star, which I played for the first time this summer. And you should make every effort to play it if at all possible. It's really good!

Unfortunately, Texas Star won't let me book as a single.  I think I might switch over to Bear Creek.  The Backyard also looks like a great 19th hole.  Should I play East or West?

Old American and Tribute are a step above those others listed if you want something nicer but are also $$$

I would love to play one of those courses!  They also do not allow single tee time bookings unfortunately.  I'm not used to this whole golfing solo thing but looking forward to it and definitely want to take advantage of the decent weather.  I'm coming from the Boston area and our season is ending pretty soon.

Was that just online or did you try calling? The two times I have been out there this year one more recently I was just able to call and book as a single no problem, unless something has changed. Definitely a neat place if you're able to get out there.

That is great to hear thank you. I was just looking online. I’ll give them a call today.

Spent the last 3 days playing both the courses at Squaw Valley in Glen Rose with 6 couples. May be a little long winded here but bear with me. You'll get a kick out of the end of my story 🙂

If you've never played these courses, it's worth the trip over there. Both are very fun courses to play with some really good, interesting golf holes.  Played Apache LInks on Monday and Wednesday and Comanche Lakes on Tuesday. Both courses were in good condition considering the summer we've had here in North Texas and the fact that we're in the middle of October. With one caveat concerning the Lakes course.

It seems that back in the first part of the summer, the Lakes course got some really bad bluegrass in them that they were unable to control and get rid of. I've linked to a story at the end of this post if you want to read about. The greens did have bare spots but they put the pins where you rarely had to putt over them. And they were really slow.

No such problem on the Links course and even though they lightly sanded the greens on Monday after we played, they putted perfectly fine on Wednesday with pretty good pace to them. It was very interesting to see the difference in the groups scores on the Links between Monday and Wednesday. Wednesday was an absolute perfect day with light winds out of the south while Monday was quite windy out of the north. We played a little 2-man team competition each day and the best team score on Monday would have finished next to last on Wednesday.

One more quick tidbit to share. Both the wife and I are high single digit handicaps. Tuesday I'm pretty happy to shoot 78. However, the wife only clipped me by a mere 6 shots shooting a nice even par 72 with 2 bogeys, an eagle (hole out from 100 yds) and 15 pars. Said she missed 4-5 good birdie chances inside of 10 feet. And........she only missed shooting her age by 2. I missed mine by 7 😉

I played Meadowbrook in Ft. Worth yesterday.  The course drained nicely after all the rain Friday and Saturday.  No real complaints about the conditions, except the 10th green.  That one is pretty rough, but the area where they hole was cut was just fine.  Greens were rolling nicely and fairways were in good shape.

Played Waterchase Sunday afternoon.  Finished #18 in the dark - I hate the time change.  That said, the course was in amazing shape, and the greens may be in their best shape of the year.
