Dallas/Ft Worth Area Courses

I think I asked a similar question at the beginning of the year, but I thought I'd ask again... anyone play in any of the leagues or tourney-series around DFW?  I'm back to considering joining one of them just to get more consistent rounds and push myself to improve. I suspect most are taking the winter off.  Thoughts on what's available is welcomed!

Skycreek is Jacking up all their membership rates.

I’d expect the same at Bridlewood and Westridge too.  Owners are milking that cash cow to death.

EDIT: Talk at breakfast this morning, rumored annual pass at Bridlewood going up to ~$5000.

I like the fact they are lowering members and public play after 12. Pretty big hike for not many more benefits if any at all as we lose the pricing on reciprocal

Anyone have some public course Arlington recommendations? I'll be visiting in December. My #1 choice is Tierra Verde, but I would like some back up choices in case I can't secure a tee time there.

Waterchase right there in Arlington is pretty sweet. Greens usually as good as anything you can play in the area.

Played Tierra Verde on Wednesday. Perfectly nice, straightforward public course. Plenty wide off the tee, back 9 was more interesting & challenging than front 9.  In good nick given they returfed over the summer. Good guys in the Pro shop, decent range, practice putting green and separate chipping green.

if I was back in the area I’d go somewhere else before returning, but overall no complaints.

The 2023 TGA Medalist events are posted and the Amateur/Mid-Am if you qualify for those as well off of handicap.

Just left Bridlewood this past month. Pretty terrible experience and product imo.

I haven't ever played in the Arlington area. If you were visiting again, what would you play over Tierra Verde?

It's not Arlington per se, but Texas Star would be in the mix for consideration. Have never played Tierra Verde so I can't compare the two. But I played Texas Star for the first time this summer and, IMHO, it's really close to to being in the category of "must play". Others may have a different opinion, of course.

To me, the only (public) course that is better than TV in Arlington is Waterchase.  I really enjoy Rangers as well, but it isn't a favorite for a lot of people.

Agree with the above; Waterchase and Texas Star would be a step above Tierra in my opinion.   I find Waterchase more fun than Texas Star, but Texas Star is more of a challenge.  Watechase #14 is my favorite par 3 in the Metroplex. Rangers is not worth the cost, but they have a great practice area.

Would like to know what private courses you could join in the DFW area for less than $20,000 and under $700 month?

Edit: If you happen to know what those numbers are, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

As 2 others have said Old American/Tribute combo would be the best under 20k initiation if you're mostly focusing on Golf.

The problem with most of the sub 20k country clubs (places like canyon creek, brookhaven, hackberry) is they focus more on tennis, social events, and pool then actual golf. The courses at a lot of the entry level clubs aren't really any different than a nice city courses and some of the older landlocked clubs have mediocre practice areas.

Pre-covid Dallas Athletic Club and Prestonwood were also 2 nice options but both of them are over 20k now.

Their range gets beat to death every single day. I’m honestly shocked it’s as good as it is. But agree with your sentiment… only a fool would pay rack rate for that course imo

Just want to say that both Winstar courses are pretty sweet if folks here haven’t made the trek. I live up north (go mean green) and it’s quicker to get to than most of the metroplex.

Greens at Waterchase are super slick! So fast!

Came here to say the same thing.  Played solo early Sunday morning.  Could not leave a putt short if I tried.  And a couple of those pins were TOUGH.

Played Waterchase today; was cart path only the whole way but got the whole 18 in at 3hours and 40 minutes!  Course was in good shape (especially for December) and could see a lot of work the new greenskeeper coming from Rolling Hills has put in.  Greens ran nice and true but weren't overly quick to me.

Hearing that the CBIGG company is selling their properties in North Texas. Includes El Dorado, Ridgeview Ranch, Riverchase, and Thorntree.

Anyone else heard that?

Yes, it's true. They're selling all 20 of their private club and golf course properties and hope to close the deal(s) by September. They ruin everything they touch, so this a good thing!

I think El Dorado had planned to redo their greens sometime this year but they have shelved the project due to the sale.
