Great meeting you Greg!  He can murder the ball. My loopy swaying move admired what he can do. Will do it again.

rockwood sparse and greens not great. Give it a month.

You hae picked out some nice courses.  Where are you staying as that might help with suggestions?

Thursday- play Cedar Crest over Prarie Lakes

Friday-all good

Saturday-Frisco Lakes is not worth the $100 to play in the morning.  Hope you get The Tribute.

Sunday-Good or look at Rangers with it being right next to Waterchase.

Just looked at the rates for Frisco Lakes. Wow! Those weekend rates have gotten on up there. Has some good golf holes and all but conditions can be iffy although greens are usually in good shape.

Fortunately for me, I qualify for the senior rates. But I still wouldn't play it anytime except for Mon-Thurs.

5 minutes from stevens park golf course.

Yes, 95 bucks for frisco seemed high. Id rather pay that for tribute but saturday morning tee times are all gone at the nice courses 😭

I just did a spot check and not much open at all early.  I played Frisco Lakes yesterday and the greens were good but i only pay $16 to play after 2 and it is right by my house.

True. The back 9 at CR is terrible. Number 10 might be the worst golf hole in America.

Played Texas Star Friday and about 80% of the greens are overrun with poa annua and lots of tee boxes are in rough shape.  I'd avoid it till more of the spring growth kicks in.

Thanks for all the help deciding on courses. Here is a little review to help others in the future

Tangle Ridge - Fairways are mostly brown and green even more brown. Wide open course, not too challenging. I would consider playing this again when fairways and green are in better shape.

Skycreek Ranch -  Fairways in great condition, greens in good condition.  Challenging course because of narrow fairways and a lot of trouble placed in middle of fairway (bunker, water, etc) which don't allow you just to simply use driver off the tee. I'd definitely play this again in the future.

Texas Star - Fairways in good condition, greens had a lot of poa??  and were challenging to putt. Ball was just bumping the whole way to the cup. Layout wasn't all that sophisticated. Could pull out a driver and bomb away every par 4,5. Would play again if greens improve.

Heritage Ranch - Fairways great condition, greens even better. Balls were rolling true on this green. Lay out was a nice mix of bombs away on the tee and forced carries. Best course we played in dallas by far. Best value as well

Old American - Fairways in great condition, greens just got sand so a little slow but still very very good. Lay out was a little one dimentional. A lot of 90 degree dog legs that you could either take the high risk shot and go diagonal with driver or play safe and just hit down fairway and have a long 2nd shot in.

Stevens park - Fairways in good condition, greens in ok condition. Not bad at all for a municipal course. Cheap and great view of Dallas in back 9.

Tierra Verde’s greens are ravaged by Poa. Rest of course is in good shape. Definitely avoid as putting is laughable

The people in charge of the recent redo and the head greenskeeper need to go.  If Tierra Verde had Waterchase's greens it would be one of the best courses in DFW public or private.  Those greens make it near unplayable and not near worth the price they charge.

Early spring golf in N TX and there's POA?  That's a first (not) 🤣

I understand that is almost unavoidable this time of year. Some courses handle better than others. I use this thread as more of a current condition tracker, I figured people should know when a course’s greens severely impact play and they should try to play at a place with a smoother surface.

Isn't Tierra Verde an Audubon certified golf course?  Those certified courses have to limit chemicals used, so might do some homework rather than blame GC Super
