I have received my order of Callaway Epic Forged irons 6 - PW,AW

Here are pictures of the P wedge side by side with Miura PP9003 and Taylormade P790 P wedge; the Epic is in the middle.

I went to demo the T200s after work today and hit the demo Epic 7 for amusement. For context, current 7 iron (Apex ‘19): 163 carry, 168 total, 5900 spin. 5 swings with the Epic averaged 197 carry, 212 total, 3700 spin. I understand I’m not the target market, but that’s just kinda stupid...

Maybe it’s stupid for you but it could benefit a lot of other players.

I guess, but not quite sure how one is supposed to hold a green with that little spin. If that’s the 7, what’s a mid iron going to look like?

So you had have picked up 10+ MPH ball speed as well. Not bad if you could keep spin equal between the two.

I haven't had any problems holding greens. I think the spin is a little higher than 3700 though.

Anyone else have these yet, in Canada and not available at my local Golftown yet. There are still waiting on the fitting cart stuff to come in. Took the leap and ordered a 7 iron to mess around with.

You didn't even mention the landing angle. Higher ball speed = higher launch = higher peak height. I guarantee you those two landing angles would have been near identical if you'd have looked.

I did an iron fitting yesterday with the expectation of getting the new 790’s. I hit the Epics 7-10 yards farther than most but price and concern with consistent distance is holding me back. I blasted a couple 7 irons nearly 180 which is crazy for me.

They are 3.5* stronger than the P790s, this could easily explain the 7/10 yards longer

And importantly, have longer shaft lengths. I believe the EPIC 7 iron shaft length is close to 5 iron length for "normal" sets.

Just checked vs the new P790, only 1/8" longer in the 7 iron.

The crazy thing is, for me, their stock specs are my specs currently. These would be tempting for the distance gains, but I'd like to stay married due to the cost.

Yes, obviously a lighter, longer club = more ball speed, and I’m sure there’s something to the tech in the clubhead contributing to ball speed. But I’m not sure > @coreyhr said:

Probably were, but with no spin the Epic still rolled out 15 yards. Distance is great, but if you can’t hold a green with them, what does it matter?

I agree, I just think it's hard to put much stock in what the rollout on a simulator says. It's just calculated after all. I recently built a p790 6 iron and I've seen no difference in stopping power versus my Srixon 745 6 iron out on the course. Spins about 750 rpm less on my GC2, but goes much higher than the 745.

I can definitely see Phil adding one of these long irons to his bag. Much hotter than the old Epic Pro iron and super duper easy to hit.

Too chunky, too much offset, too difficult to maneuver ball flight.
