Play J15 at home and play J40 dpc during the winter and on golf trips. Both are Great and I could play either one any day if I had to.

I have the J40 DPCs as my backup set. I bought them off the BST here in November 2013.

I'm still playing the J40 DPC with Steelfibers and can't see any reason to change. They are soft and forgiving and I really like the slightly bigger clubhead and I think that the Steelfibers are the perfect match. Very workable clubs as well.

I have felt that my spin was up from last year, but I thought it was more the shafts. I’ve switched to a lower spinning ball and feel it’s helped. They are a little shorter than other irons because of the traditional lofts, but I love the head shape and look of them.

Still rocking my J40 DPCs with the NS Pro 1050GH shafts. Absolutely perfect, don't feel chunky behind the ball but still have a little bigger blade length which helps mentally.

 

Just trialed a mint set of J38 CBs but lost a little bit of distance with them. Going for a steal on the 'bay if anyone's interested in a like-new set ;)

Is there a big playability difference between the j38 and j40 iterations?

 

I've been playing 710 MBs and I have always been interested in the DPCs. I can score a deal on either.

 

It appears the j40 has an upgraded sole grind, but thatd the primary difference?

Short answer is no. Even the soles look near identical next to each other. I would say pick whichever one you like the looks of most and/or whichever you can get the better deal on.

Recently updated my bag to the Ping i210, but I'm keeping the J40 DPC. The i210 offset helps me elevate the 5 and 6 iron more reliably than the J40. When I'm swinging well the J40 are no problem. I think the J40s are better for working the ball and feel more precise. The i210s are more forgiving for my swing.

Building up a set of J40 CBs right now in fact, replacing my Mizunos. Amazing feel and I prefer the turf interaction. I would love to get a set of the DPCs as well.

The J15 CB is the perfect combination of J40 CB and DPC IMO. It has the sole grind of the J40 (maybe even a little better, for me) and the forgiveness of the DPC. I loved the J38/40 DPC and the J40 CB, but the J15s are miles better even still. I also still own J40 black Oxide wedges, very underrated clubs as well. Gave my J38 DPCs to my buddy, he was playing some old as butt Titleist's but now loves the J38s. Bridgestone is so under the radar it isn't funny.

I've looked around with the thought of replacing them a few times, but haven't encountered anything that I've had a strong enough desire to replace them with yet.

Still playing my J40 DPCs & no thoughts of changing. Grooves still in good shape although short irons are beginning to see some chrome loss on the faces. I think they are the perfect combination of classic looks & forgiveness for me; it's hard to find an iron that gives you some help without significant offset which I hate to look down at. The J40 DPC checks all the boxes for me. YMMV
