Any tips on short putt technique with the LAB putter? I am great when I can look at where the shaft enters the clubhead and have that as the center of my stance.  However, when I am over short putts, I want to look at the ball, throwing the "look" at center of shaft thing off. I find myself an assassin on medium to long putts but struggling over 3 footers.

It's "similar" for me, or at least it has been. It's a thing of getting used to it. I do now set up to a putt of any length the same. On long putts I then only focus on the length/speed of swing and on short putts I focus on light tension in the arms and wrists and just let the putter go. Might not make sense but thats what cured the yips I had on short putts with the putter before my DF

73 pages and I'm sold!

Got my online fitting today. I think I know the answer to this, but I'm told 32.5" and 67*. I know I like alignment 1 (I'm a hook side aimer and love a perpendicular line with a small impact line). I like the 3* grip and fine with the stock shaft. I guess there's no reason to spend the extra cash on a custom for half an inch, is there? I was figuring on 32" and 65* so I was mentally prepared to plunk down the custom cost, so I can be convinced, but I think everyone here would say that's too minimal a change to justify the upcharge, right?

@labgolf anything I'm not thinking of?

No.  Pay the money, my opinion of course.  I did the same thing. It wasn't long before I started wondering "how much better would the actual correctly fitted putter be?". It's already in your mind. Buy once cry once.  Best golf decision I've ever made.

Get the stock DF2.1. Why would you spend an extra $150 for a 0.5" shorter length shaft? Everything else is stock(lie, grip and alignment line).

Put the OG grip on my DF2.1 today. Hope to putt with it tomorrow before putting it in play Friday.  I’ve never played a full 18 with it.  I have kinda struggled practicing with it over the last year.   I want to get it to work and haven’t been successful, always putting better with my Ping Harwood.  That said, (of course) when I decided to order the OG as I thought the press ll 3.0 was too big, I changed my grip and was having great success this past week, while waiting on the OG to arrive.  I played 9 with it and putted very well.  Was conflicted today if I should take it off now but did.  OG is on and I will try the same grip as before.  Hope for same results.

Ok, used the OG today on the practice putting green. I really like it. Was able to find my same grip with my right hand and trigger finder that seems to keep everything steady thru the stroke.  I have always loved this putter (with BST shaft) on longer putts but the 6’ and in have always been sketchy for me. Like I couldn’t make a smooth stroke always getting jerky with it even tho I don’t have that problem with my Ping Harwood.  Anyway, felt better today and I’m ready to game it tomorrow since owning it since last Jan.  Crazy.  Crazy I paid this much for a putter and never used it on the course.   Anyway, looking forward to the maiden voyage tomorrow.

So excited, I pulled the trigger on the stock, thanks in part to Sam reassuring me that choking up half an inch won't affect the balance. I also appreciate that I was basically begging them to give me a reason to spend the extra $150 and they put my mind at ease about the stock. Now comes the impossible part ... the wait.

Putted yesterday and loved the round (of putting at least). Used again today for 9 and still pretty consistent.   I have had good luck since I bought the thing on long distance putting but the short stuff was atrocious.  Changing to the OG grip has helped with that it seems. Playing again tomorrow and looking forward to it again.

I still, at times, try to manhandle the putt and push it from inside 10’  but when I let the putter do it’s thing, I’m having great success.

Another round of love. Loving this putter right now.  Why didn’t I use it sooner? It’s been sitting in my garage since Jan if 2021.

29 putts today.   I’ll take that every day of the week.

When I putt, my position isn't exactly the same every time. Sometimes the I'll have the ball a little closer or farther away or I may be more or less upright. Of course my position is pretty close but there is always going to be some small degree of variability. Each of these variables will affect the lie angle. I feel that if I was to be measured for my lie angle multiple times that the results would vary by a few degrees. So my questions is how much flexibility in degrees is there in the lie angle with the LAB putters? If I make sure that the putter head is flat on the ground and not toe up or down will that be the "correct" lie angle? Of course this assumes I'll be in a comfortable position. The reason I ask is I've tried the DF 2.1 and Mezz in PGATSS so they were the stock 69* lie angles and 34" length. I felt in a comfortable position when set up and the heads were flat to the ground. I also tried the fitting DF 2.1(with adjustable shaft) and a 34" length give or take a 1/2" felt best. So based on this I think one of the stock lie angle(67, 69, 71) would fit me fine. This all depends on how much flexibility in the lie angle there is. I would think at least 1 maybe 2 degrees. If so, then I would be able to fit properly into one of the stock DF 2.1 models as long as my fitting lie angle is between like 66-72*. I'm good with the stock alignment lines and grip. Maybe @labgolf can comment?

We want it laying flat and with the DF, it will actually help you be more consistent because you'll notice when it isn't flush. sounds like a stock 69 would be just fine

Mine arrived today and got an hour at the putting green. I’m just blown away. I don’t want to overstate one practice session. But the first 15 or so putts were all in the exact same spot, just on the left edge (push for me as a LH). Like,1-2” and in a pile. As soon as I moved the ball a little further they started coming off so clean and falling in the cup. The ball just seems to hold its line so well.

Today I wanted to get the pace, based on what I heard here so I spent most of my hour on long putts of 30-60’. The less I thought, the better my pace. What really struck me was how easy 4-6’ putts seemed, it took so much pressure off 50’+ putts knowing I didn’t need a 2’ circle.

I have two of my most aspirational tournaments in 2 weeks. I’d never dream of making such a dramatic equipment change with such short a window. But I want to commit to as much practice as possible to put the DF in play and see what happens. Any advice on drills to speed the acclimation?

Does anyone know if you can shorten these without throwing the balance out of whack? I’m guessing no but wasn’t sure if anyone had info on this. I’ve got an email into their customer service as well. Was thinking of taking my Mezz. 1 from 35” down to 34”.

I wouldn’t quote me, but I believe LAB stated in a previous post that altering the length does NOT affect the balance.  But don’t hack away at your putter before they confirm that!!

They emailed me back yesterday evening, this was their response for anyone else who may be curious.

We only advise making length adjustments up to an inch, since anything more can jeopardize the balance of the club. If you go from 35" to 34", the balance will be effected as it won't be perfectly factory balanced, but it will be in an overall balanced state especially compared to other putters on the market.”

Uh oh!!!! First 9 holes tonight. 4 three putts!!!! I could not get the pace outside 20’. All 4 were the lag putt’s fault, and I’m talking not even close. 10-15’ past on all of them. Then from inside 20’ I was a couple inches shorts all day. Arccos said I lost 5.1 shots putting.

Stopped at the putting green after and did a bunch of long lag putting with thumbs off the grip and that actually

made a huge difference to my pace.

Big weekend with, 18 holes each day. I really hope today was growing pains.

Does anyone have any input on the B.2 Headweight? Stainless or brass any different?

First 18 holes were a major success. No 3 putts. Only once was I outside 3’ after a lag and I made it. Knocked in a 12’ birdie putt. Overall I didn’t make a ton from 5’+ but honestly just 2 putting comfortably was such a change, I’m thrilled. Arccos said I was -0.2 SG Putting against my handicap and -1.0 against scratch. I’ll take it. Best score of 2022.

I will say I struggled for a bit making the conversion.  Hell, i say the putter in the garage for almost a year before making a commitment to the single most expensive piece of golf equipment I’ve ever bought.

Yeah I've had short putting issues since I bought it, which was frustrating because that was probably the strength of my game before. It immediately improved my lag putting (one of my main weaknesses) but I've been doing the drills and also just experimenting and think I've figured it out.

One thing was my hands were too flat, so when I make sure to keep the shaft more vertical it feels like it can't go anywhere but straight. I don't know if I was more upright when I was fitted or what, but that seems like it's helped. I even pulled my old Newport out the other day because I was frustrated, but it felt like I hadn't putted in years when I was using it so I'm fully committed to the Mezz now.

Another thing is reading the putts. I feel like the lines are different than what I used to putt before but not sure if that's real or not.

Who knows what next!

Had the 2.1 for some time now but recent weeks have been awful. Loads of 3 puts and even 2 putts were a struggle. No apparent reason but the greens at my club can be brutal. If you are in the wrong place its easy to 3 putt.

However I had a few days off after an eye operation and went through the various online drills.

Turned up yesterday to play just the back 9 (harder of the two) with some friends. Before I caught then up I went on the putting green (where I have no trouble usually) and tried the 'Thumbs Off drill' Promptly drained 6 putts.

I then thought what I I do this on the course. The result! 6 2putts and 3 1 putts all of which were long. It may not be the complete answer but It suggests that I struggle to keep my hands out of it.

Lets see if it continues to work

Just grabbed a B.2. I'm looking to change the shaft. Has anyone done this? I'm wondering if this is just a hole ported t the desired lie angle, or if there is a post@labgolf any help is appreciated.

The learning curve on my Mezz 1 XL broomstick is flattening and I am becoming more and more confident in my speed control. Putts inside 5 feet are now being stroked with purpose and are expected to be made (instead of wishing them into the hole).  Today I made two putts outside of 30 feet for birdie which shows me that my speed control is coming around....finally.  It's only been about 1 month and I no longer consider my putting to be my nemesis.
