Lightweight Stand Bags

Just got the 2021 players 4 in. Materials feel like they’re high quality and will be fairly durable. The dividers in the middle sections are boxed so I’m hoping the past issues of club tangle will be minimized with this upgrade. Straps are solid. Excited to get this out on the course tomorrow.

Top section looks so small, is it just an illusion or are woods tight in there?

There is no opening into the middle two sections. But that material is only attached to the bag at the top and the bottom. There is a small opening on both sides that a club could theoretically go from the top section to the bottom, but I feel like that is unlikely.

Hopefully that makes sense.

What do you guys think about $189 for the 2021 2.5? I’m guessing given the huge run on bags this year, we won’t see any big close out sales on the 2020 outgoing models.

That’s a good price for an extra pocket

Good looking bag. Been thinking about getting the same one.   I'll be interested on your thoughts concerning club tangling.

Walked 18 yesterday. No issues with club tangle at all. A little snug in comparison to my previous cart bag, but no problem getting the clubs in and out of the bag. The range finder pocket is a really nice feature for me. Easy to access while walking. The straps twisted on me one time, but that was more so on me just getting used to carrying again.

I got this through Golf Galaxy, but looking like they're very low on stock. A few other sites did have them listed. I'm not sure if someone made a mistake and sent out a small amount to some retailers ahead of schedule, or what, but had to jump on the opportunity while I had it.

gotcha - see it now. feel like bags are in such low stock everywhere, but not sure if i should just keep waiting until all the new ones come out

Had a look today in person at the Sun Mountain 2021 2.5 and 3.5. I brought a jacket and definitely worry it will be a tight squeeze to get a full rain suit packed into the 2.5. That said, the Titleist 4 Carbon was just a tiny garment pocket, and the Mizuno struck me also lacking storage. Of all the really lightweight bags, I felt best about the 2.5, although I might opt for the 3.5 in the end.

But in reality, I think for Scotland I want as little space as possible, so long as the rain gear fits. Beyond that, a couple sleeves of balls, some tees, water and a snack. Range finder has its own spot. I sense I’m guilty of normally filling up pockets, when in reality I’m just making things heavier.

I just picked up a hoofer lite myself (I've always been a Ping guy), but I have to admit that Titleist has been making major improvements with their bags recently. That one definitely looks a whole lot "sleeker" than their cheap looking bags of years past and the silver color is awesome.

@EBLefty17 What is that small, non-zipper pocket on the side next to the large Titleist logo? Is it supposed to be for a scorecard or something?

Yes it is the rangefinder pocket. Has a magnetic closure on it. Very easy to access while the bag is on your back.

That was the other thing I couldn't figure out about the Carbon. It seemed like the rangefinder pocket should be up top where you're grabbing clubs. But maybe that's because I'm used to hanging the case on my towel ring. Bending down to get it each shot seemed crazy, but I guess if the idea is to pull it while walking it makes more sense.

Ah that makes sense. I'm not sure how I feel about that being a magnetic closure. My rangefinder is one of the only things I want to stay completely dry if it starts raining.

Preface: I joined a new club and will not be able to use my push cart, and because I would rather stick it to the man I'm going to start walking again. I own a SM 4.5 LS at the moment, which has pretty much all the bells and whistles you could want but by most accounts it's about 5.5lbs dry. I've been doing research on bags the last couple of weeks and information is scattered around, especially on the new 2020 bags in this category. I'd hope others can add their experience or info as well. I will try to have a write up on each bag- from research and any handling in store, I obviously can not afford to try all these darn bags!Criteria:

Target bag weight= 4lbs maximum (lower the better)Double strap (no Sunday bags)14-club carry capabilityBudget ~$250, niche bags not likely to be considered due to weight and price. Contenders

Sorry i'm late to the party, but I've been using a Stitch SL2 for a few months now and absolutely adore it. It's under 4lbs and fully water proof, plus, it's one of the best looking bags out there if aesthetic is also important to u. It has all the basic functions of a golf bag and more.

I can't recommend it enough.

I hope it helps.

Cheers

Can I ask how many times you play a week and do you carry?   I love the looks of that bag but know someone who has one and a lot of the stitching that holds the straps to the bag started to break away.   I think they replaced it as the bag was less than a year old but disappointing given the cost of the SL2.

recently played seven rounds in Orlando the first part of December and brought multiple jackets, and layers for cold mornings. Would have no issue fitting a full rain suit in and it wouldn’t feel cramped at all. At one point I had two jackets and a vest in there and still had plenty of room. If anything, to your point I feel there’s a bit too much room as it definitely doesn’t mandate that you pack light.

Losing track of who has what. Is that the 2.5 you’re referencing?

I got one mid summer and has been carrying it 1-2 rounds a week. I have 14 clubs, a towel, 2 sleeves of balls, some gloves, a range finder and a large bottle of water. Mine comes with 2 different straps, a single and a 2-shoulder that u could interchange.
I never pay attention to the stitching, but so far so good.

No, still have the Bushnell cover attached up high.  Use the new zipper pocket for tees and a divot tool.

Am returning my Vessel. Still the best quality bag I’ve seen but the top is too small for a walking bag.  I’m not interested in their larger bags.

i think a 2.5+ 2021 is in my future.  Never liked the colors but love that large opening. Not sure about their straps yet.

My kid has a Hoofer Lite and had a problem with the raincover, which Ping addressed.  Now, one of the pins from the legs came out.  The legs never strongly held the bag up and didn’t snap back, like the others we have.  It is our fourth Ping, and it was the only disappointing buy.

Decided to see what was out there in waterproof, since we’ve been getting rain and hate unloading the bag after a wet round.

Really liked the looks of EBLefty17’s bag, so, went in search for the Titleist Stadry.

Found only two Stadrys in three stores. One was white, which looked great, but, hard to keep clean.  My kid asked for black LOL.  The sales manager said Titleist goods were taking up to two months, in some cases.  So, I bypassed ordering and bought this.

i was afraid the 9” top wouldn’t fit 14 clubs without squeezing them in, but, everything has enough room.   The bag has a little less useable space than the Hoofer Lite, but, nothing was disgarded to fit.

The pockets are snug, and the rangefinder pocket is not really functional.  Plus, he just carbiners the case to the carry grip.  He uses the small slot to store a tee bag for practice balls/practice tees.

My son carries waterproof gloves, range tees, 3 balls, some other misc in the bottom left pocket.  You can fit a 20oz hydroflask in the water bottle slot next to it.

The “ball pocket” fits a range finder/case, 3 balls, sunglass case, tee/marker/pivot tool bag, sharpie marker in the upper mesh pocket, membership cards in lower mesh pocket.

The long garment pocket (shown) fits a waterproof jacket and eyeline putting mirror.  In the valuables pocket are spare battery, hand wipes, cash, ziplock baggy.

Loaded with 14 clubs and a water bottle it weighed about 24 lbs.

Interestingly, the rain cover is the same color blue, so, it really pops.  Not sure why they didn’t make it black, but, if you want a bag with personality...

Hope that helps!
