Ventus blue velocore vs ventus blue non velocore

Well, as it happens…

I just tested a Ventus Blue 5R non-velocore and a Ventus Blue TR 5R on a Flightscope Mevo last Friday.  Very nice day with almost no wind, Paradym head, same grip on each shaft, new range balls, 10 shots each.  I got rid of one shot that was a bad mishit with the non-velo to get a more accurate average.  I’m a 5 index, fwiw.  Also, I’m 71 and by no means a high swing speed guy anymore.

All the data below are averages.

Smash factors were almost identical; 1.48 non-velo, 1.49 velo.
Launch angles were very close; 10.5 non-velo, 10.7 velo. (Yes, I’d like to launch it higher…)

Dispersion was almost identical; both were VERY straight.

That’s where the similarities end, though.

I can’t explain this, but my club head speed was 2 mph faster with the velo, and my ball speed was almost 4 mph faster.  The spin rate for the velo was 430 rpm’s HIGHER, which also surprised me.

The peak height of the velo was 8’ higher.

The velo was 8 yds longer on carry, and 7 yds longer on overall distance averages, and the difference for the single best shot with each was almost the same as the average.

(Note: I also tested the Ventus Red TR Velocore, also a 5R.  Without giving all the numbers, the Red for me only launched 0.6* higher, but it was slightly shorter than the Blue.  This is in line with videos I had watched about the 3 Ventus versions; the differences seem to be more about feel than performance.)

I have a TSR2 driver with a Ventus TR Red 5R shaft.  I have also tried the Ventus Blue 5R shaft.  For me the Red was easier to hit, and the smash factor and numbers were better with the Red, but the Blue was a little straighter.  I am currently playing the Ventus TR Red in a 12* 910 D2 head.

How would you fit yourself to one of the ventus/velocore profiles?

Black profile is universally low/low with a very stiff tip and handle.  Red and Blue variants will vary for each golfer in terms of launch/spin but very dependent on whether you do better with a stiff or softer handle, IMO.  I also found the TR/OG Red to be easier to turnover compared to their blue counterparts however, you may find otherwise.

I agree with you that any player would have to test the three versions to see what works best for them, and Fujikura does market the shafts as having at least slightly different launch characteristics.

But I watched some testing videos by Club Champion and Today’s Golfer that showed only very slight variations in launch angles, distance, etc.  I haven’t hit the Black, but that’s exactly what I found with the Blue vs the Red.

I suspect that the main differences in the three shafts are much more about the preferred feel than actual performance.  And that is not at all to diminish the importance of the feel of a shaft.

Would it be wrong to infer from this thread that Velocore or the lack thereof would be more noticeable to faster swing speeds >100mph?

In terms of stability, I wholeheartedly believe that Velocore benefits everyone but 100+ ss golfers more so.  I found the non-Velocore version to be unstable at 118+ ss.  Over draw and hooks mainly.

I only swing to 100 mph and I have Ventus with Velocore in my 7 wood and hybrid.  That's a significant of better feel and performance to me with Velocore.

Callaway Paradym TD 9, Autoflex 505.

Callaway Paradym TD 15, Autoflex 505X.

TSR2 7 wood, Ventus TR 6S.
Paradym X 5 hybrid, Ventus 7S.

Paradym AI Smoke HL 8 hybrid, Ventus 8S.
PXG Gen4 0311ST, 8 to GW. Steelfiber Private Reserve 95R.

Callaway PM grind 64, KBS Hi-rev.

I’ve hit both a fair amount.  Velocore blue has noticeably stiffer tip.  Non-velocore was better for me in fairway woods.  For driver, velocore was straighter and longer.

I actually felt nonV 6s in fairway was stiffer than V in 5s.

My personal feeling is that V is better but nonV is a better value.  It’s more an issue of being pretty different shafts versus one being watered down.

I don’t think so.  I’m 71, and my swing speed averages around 90; the difference between the Velocore and non-velocore versions was significant, both distance and dispersion.

I think the non-velo “made for” is a very good shaft.  But it just isn’t a cheaper version; it’s a completely different animal.

Yes.

It's more noticeable for good ball strikers.

No LM stats.  But I have both original and TR versions of Red and Blue, 5 series stiff.  Original Red 6 & 7 series for driver and 3wd.  I am a tad older than the OP, and playing to a 4.

Of the lot, TR blue 5 series Stiff is clearly the longest in my hands.

Any one who is reasonably aware of how a shaft feels should feel the difference.  They are totally different bend profiles.

Totally agree and sorry I did not clarify.  Newish fitter here. Last year I noticed a few times when we were at a multi event, a fitting partner was pushing a senior into the Velocore model rather than the non- Velocore model. He was a high handicapper with a relatively slow swing speed. It seemed like an unnecessary expense.
