Callaway pre-owned love

The TM 'site' and their agreement with GG is terrible. I'm not saying GG doesnt have good CS - but Callaway just blows it out of the water by being able to control it themselves and not dump it on a third party which is also its own company.

GG treats the 'TM preowned' like a side project, Callaway does not and it's to their advantage.

As great as the Callaway preowned website is many times the same club(s) you buy from their dedicated website are cheaper on Ebay with free shipping. When you find something you want to buy on their website check their Ebay store before purchasing. You might be pleasantly surprised.

I saved a fair amount on a 5-W set of Apex 16’s going through their eBay site earlier in March.  Listed as “Like New”, came wrapped in plastic.

I’ve got about a dozen purchases through the years but I’m a 2 purchase losing streak. Past two driver heads I bought in average and good condition were beat to crap. My fault, they probably technically fit the condition guide but tons of dings on the crown, paint chipping at the face-crown line. Both look like they spent 2 seasons in a bag without a headcover. But customer service has been good and offered to replace for the cost of the difference in grade which is more than fair. Lesson for me is stick to the top two grades on a driver for FW when the blemishes will bug me. One thing I noticed is that the shaft on one had the plastic disk in the butt end, suggesting it came off a demo/fitting cart.

Love 99.9% of experiences I've had at CPO. I just bought a TS2 fairway that was listed in "Like New" which I figured, based on previous experience, would be wrapped in plastic or at the very least never hit. This one however had some pop up marks on the crown and definitely some face use. It wasn't horrible, and I've had such great experiences in the past - so I didn't even feel the need to email their support. Just FYI, sometimes they do slip up.

I’ve used the Callaway Pre-owned site on a number of occasions...never had an issue. Just picked up a like new Odyssey Toulon Austin that was a steal. I’ll go to CPO before I’ll look on eBay...but sometimes CPO has clubs listed on eBay cheaper than their website!

Has anyone had experience buying irons from CPO that were listed as "Good" or " Average"? If so, what did the irons look like when you received them?

Not anywhere near 'very good'. Good and average usually mean face wear, scuffs, lots of scratches, etc.

I've bought sets in both of these conditions. Average had significant face wear, bag chatter and browning on most of the forged clubs. The 'good' clubs had a fair bit of wear as well, no browning (I believe heads were stainless, so...). What irked me about the clubs in good condition was that the shafts were not original (clearly stated in listing) and look like they were installed by a 6 year old. There was tip was prepped above the ferrules, large gaps between ferrules and head that had been filled in with epoxy, and the lengths were all over the board.

On a side note, my main beef with CPO (and Global Golf) is that unless the club has a color code they seem to list everything as standard loft/lie. I have gotten many clubs from them that have been adjusted 2-3* (normally upright for some reason) as well as some being either an inch short or long. In my last experience, I had to pay return shipping because a wedge arrived extremely upright and I wasn't going to risk having it be bent back. I'm not saying every club needs to be measured on a machine, but you should be able to hold a club in playing position and notice that it is way off standard spec.

This is the club I got which was consider average. The shaft still had the tag on it. Here is the head, definitely not what I would consider to be “average”.  So much better than average.

That is just crazy.  I have to assume they got mine mixed up.   I just got a driver from Callaway preowned that was supposed to be in "very good" condition.    The face looks like it has taken 100's of sandy range balls.   There are scratches all over and a few paint chips.  A big scratch in the shaft.   Even a spider web in the weight cavity.     The driver was dirty.          On top of that, I ordered a different grip and they put it on crooked and slightly twisted.

Edit:   I called CPO today and they happened to have the same club in "like new" condition.  So they are shipping that one out and including a return label for the old one.   No hassle getting it taken care of.    Sounds like they just grabbed the wrong club initially.

I love CPO's customer service and ease of dealing with them

I will say that most of my "like new" purchases have been returned recently bc they've been at best very good.

But like I say, they always make it right, and I still buy a fair amount of stuff off there

Agree they are top notch but prices do seem to be higher. I think that is the case with all used clubs right now though.

you need to watch the sales and only buy during one of their good sales for the category you’re looking at.  You can almost always wait it out and get 20%, sometimes 30/35%

The replacement driver that Callaway said was "like new"  is almost worse than the one they were replacing.    This is just ridiculous.
