Still my favorite Autoflex vid.  Love this guys swing.

I know.  I wish mine was as smooth a tempo as he has.  His transition is not harsh either for creating such speed.

Actually this one was live and he had a ton of bad shots.  This was all about speed.  Ball and swing speed.  He was trying everything possible to get above 190ball speed and then over 130mph swing speed.  Then getting over 380 total yards and finally over 390.  Lots of hard draws and even topped shots.  However the shaft and Cobra driver were hitting some massive shots,  many over 350 carry.  He said those were new record highs for his swing speed, ball speed and distance.

They’re not actually flying that far. Put his numbers in flightscope trajectory optimizer . Foresights are awesome launch monitors but their distance algorithm is horrible

Okay guys, just got back from testing the SF505 on GCQuad.  I've attached my numbers from a previous GCQuad test with my stock riptide shaft and with the SF405 Autoflex for comparison.  The SF505 for me is noticeably different from the SF405.  I don't have a hard time adjusting to it from swinging a normal club like I did with the 405.  It also feels more like a normal shaft during the swing but produces better results than the 405 for me.  Again I used the same clubhead for both tests (Mavrik Max 9*) however I set it to +1 loft to close the face a tiny bit during this go around.  I also noticed I was swinging slightly faster today with both the stock shaft and the Autoflex than the first test.  Below are my numbers from both Autoflex SF505 and stock Riptide 55g

Stock Riptide 55g Stiff

Ball speed, launch, spin, carry, total

143.1 / 15.4 / 1505 / 241 / 266

143.9 / 16.5 / 2511 / 243 / 262

143.7 / 18.1 / 1597 / 258 / 282

145.3 / 14.1 / 2597 / 247 / 266

145.8 / 14.4 / 2061 / 254.2 / 277

The one thing to note from this test was that the Riptide swings came at about 20 minutes into a 60 minute session.  The Autoflex swings that the numbers came from didn't come until I dialed in my settings through numerous swings and weren't recorded until after the 45 minute mark and I was getting more tired.  I believe if they were done at the same time I was swinging the Riptide the difference would be more.

Autoflex got rid of the weak right fade/slice that I had with the riptide. I did have a few duck hooks I had to work through with the autoflex but besides this couple it was more accurate than my stock setup.

Nice! Thanks everyone for the data.

I'm finally going to get mine out on the course tomorrow, I can't wait. I have a 0811XF Gen 2 PXG 10.5* head that weighs in at 198 grams, and currently the setup is 45.5."

Not quite sure the SW as I have no way to check (thinking about getting a SW scale soon), but the PXG head can be adjusted weight wise in the future.

I can almost guarantee you are past the SW recommendation.  The PXG heads are heavy like the Pings.  I think you will have to adjust to get it around 194 or so.

I got mine about a week ago and so far loving it.  I have a swing speed about 105 MPH so tend to be right in between stiff/ x-stiff.  I would say I'm getting an increase of 5-10 yards off the tee which is great.  I haven't gotten it on a trackman or anything yet for actual data but using my eyes on where it's landing on the range switching back and forth with my Hzrdus Hulk shaft.  For people getting the shaft, make sure to get the swing weight set up.  My brother in law reached out to the company after trying mine and they recommend a D1 - D1.5 swing weight for optimal results.  I had to go get a heavier grip with lead tape wrapped underneath to get it right.  Took it to the range for the 1st time since getting the swing weight dialed and it was working way better.

The one thing I can point out is the accuracy.  I play a course that is very demanding with accuracy and in a normal round lose 1-2 balls off the tee.  I've had the shaft now for 3 rounds and have yet to lose a ball.  Not to mention we have had some of the windiest conditions so it's even more impressive.  Gaining yards is great but saving 2-4 strokes by keeping the ball in play is to me the bigger piece to this puzzle.

Everyone who tries it on the range is amazed at how the ball explodes off the club face and how it's incredibly stable for being as "whippy" as it looks when waggling the club behind the ball.

I hope to get it on trackman soon for some direct data comparison but so far with my Arccos app I've seen an increase.

SIM 10.5 lofted down to 9.75.  I had it lofted lower down to 9 but I felt like it was launching too low and I wasn't getting as much roll out.  Now the ball is coming off a little higher (longer) with the extra pop off the face.

Curious about your swing weight. What is your setup? Which shaft, length, head weight w/o adapter, grip weight, how much lead tape?

Autoflex was uncut at 45".  I had the standard SIM 10.5 driver head.  So the extra 1" in length moved me up 6 points but the lighter shaft dropped me 1 point.  So I had to account for 5 points to get it back to standard D5.  Then down another 3.5 to the optimal D1.5.  I went with a heavy grip (added about 15 grams), 3 wraps as well to make the grip bigger (oversize tend to be lighter so went midsize with the wraps), and then used the lead tape under the grip.  Acts as a sort of counterbalance.

I tried taking the 9g sliding weight out of the clubhead but that made the club too light.

My setup will be pretty similar but now I know I'll probably need lead tape under the grip.  Going uncut to start with the 505x 54g, Sim 195g (w/10g sliding weight), 62g crossline midsize. I'm willing to try a 7-8g sliding weight to fine tune if I'm close but agree you can't take it out completely.

I actually went as far as buying all the Mavrik weights from Golfworks along with a new Callaway OEM adapter.  This is becoming an even more expensive experiment than anticipated.

I'm also extremely tempted to buy the softest ventus available to compare (but probably won't)

Before the auto flex got some traction I was going to go down the ventus route. The S/X cutoff is usually 110mph so when I dropped below 110 with a black 6x I moved to 6s and had good results. Thought about going blue 5s at 46.5 to see if it would hold up and get some of the auto flex benefits, lighter/longer.

Measuring tape, kitchen scale, some fulcrum (fat magic marker, finger, pencil on end of table, etc.)

Thank you! That was super helpful. I was able to trial and error with the adjustable weights to get it in the D1 - D2 range. Much appreciated!

I'm currently hitting my Black 6x as well as I've ever hit a driver and actually setting personal records.

That said, I like buying stuff about much as I like golf in general - so here we ware.

My Sim is 194g with the sliding weight.  I bought a lighter sliding weight and back weight for the Sim just in case but i didn’t have to swap anything out as it came right in at D1.5.  Didn’t have to add any lead tape under the grip for the driver.  Did add 2 under the grip for the 3 wood to counterbalance to get to D2.

My2Dogs - What was your setup for the Mavrik?  The Mavrik is 193.5, so it seems like that would be ideal, if the finished shaft with 46.   How does it play in the 3W?

Did you go with the 505 or 505X?

My Mavrik came in at 193 so it was perfect.  After getting the SF505X I even put in the heavier custom head (202g) and it actually was ok.  Only issue was I could really turn it over into a big draw.

3 wood was D2 at 43”.

3 wood works well.  It has some pop but my swing is not great since I’ve only hit a couple times due to the surgery and that was this week.

off the tee it’s good, off the deck I’m struggling.  What I’ve found on the 3 wood is I’m hitting a push fade but it’s pretty straight.  Just 5 yards to the right and I play draw normally.  So I tried to pause at the top and that seemed to help with getting my normal draw.  If I don’t want to pause I just lengthened my swing just a bit and it the timing caught up right away and my draw was back.  It’s also a nice high draw like my driver.

a lot of it could be my swing as well as it feels rusty as I haven’t had a chance to swing a club in over a month.  I was a bit afraid to go hard but my staples and stitches were taken out Thursday and I went right to the range after.  😂. Shhhh don’t tell my dr.

I’m playing it at 46 but I do choke down 1/2 as I don’t like to feel the end of the club in the hands.  So essentially 45.5 but it’s cut to 46.

Yes 505X and my favorite grip - No 1 series 50.

I need to quit following this dam thread, it's killin me.

Anyway, do any of you guys that have this shaft have a quick transition? My SS is around 95, I have a 1-plane swing

( Todd Graves method ) and my carry is about 230 - 245 or so.

I’m very aggressive in my transition.  That’s why I had the push fade on the 3 wood.  Just had to work out the timing.
