I guess to me the one thing that anchoring the putter to the forearm does is that it prevents the hands from manipulating the putter face.

You have it backwards ....maintaining the forward press-locking the wrists-keeps the grip against the forearm. This is not the old Langer style where his trail hand holds the shaft against the forearm. Not flipping keeps the shaft against the forearm-nothing is anchored. It’s like a reminder grip.

Do NOT ban arm-lock. Not everyone can putt conventional. I love that putting, in particular, allows for all kinds of funky variation. Leave it alone. Phock.

Disagree a bit when you look at the winners, pretty good track record in the Open over the past thirty years of ranked number 1 golfers winning it, some multiple times

Faldo

Norman

Woods

Price

Mcilroy

Duval

plus top ten ranked

Daly

O’meara

Harrington

Stenson

Spieth

Mickelson

Oosthuizen

Els

outliers:

Curtis (went out way earlier in very calm weather)

Clark (appalling weather Sunday, made for him)

Hamilton (used a cheaty club)

Just saying that the British Open is not THAT weird for the best players.

Back to the question - two

No evidence that he’s going to have any longer lasting form than Matsuama, Westwood, Donald, Spieth, or anyone else who hits a streak for a couple of years. Only a couple of years ago he had a meltdown on the range at the Open.

Plus he will get injured.

How was the hybrid a cheat club ?

If it was me I should have put it in quotes. I know that it is not anchoring per the rules of golf but he does brace the putter against his arm.

But the point is it is not braced or locked. It is only kept there by the player maintaining their forward press. It is not the old Langer style where it was held there by the trail hand. Big difference.

Didn't realize you were giving Obee a hard time. "What did he do to you?" (I put that in quotes due to another suggestion 😏)

It's all good, unlike others that post in this thread.

As Geoff Ogilvy pointed out, if they keep lengthening courses, the number of potential winners gets smaller.  Bryson proofing is simple, make the courses 7000 or less and the amount of qualified competition goes up.  Lengthening courses to 7800 or more will eliminate the shotmakers.  If they go back to 7000, Spieth could get his game back and Zack Johnson would still be competitive.

Bryson could win up to maybe 6, but I would guess 3-4.

Pretty surprised at the number of people in this thread who think Bryson has “solved” golf.

No. It is way too fickle a game for that. Look at Cameron Champ or Jordan Spieth for example.

Bryson has found something that works at the moment. At some point it will stop working and he will need to find some other method or pattern or swing thought, same as everyone else.

Spieth is a decent example but Champ? Solved the game?

Some have essentially solved the game. You may have heard of Hogan? Watson? Even Jack? Long term success is possible. Now you're correct in that you won't have "it" every week... Or that someone won't play better. But top pros don't need to change their pattern every week.  Unless your "at some point" meant in 20 years.

Pro golf is not a long term sport anymore--Lots of money puts out the competitive fire for many

I agree 100% with this. I think the large purses have cooled the desire of many. Hoping for a few that want to be the best. Jordan was off to a good start but riches, marriage and now a jacked up long game derailed that train. Hoping for someone out of the Bryson, Morikawa, Wolff, Hovland group to reach the next level. I think one of these guys will be one of the 10 greatest by career end just not sure which one. It’s an exciting time for golf but the money does more harm than good.

Well Jack said “golf is a game of adjustments”.
Hogans putting left him, as many others.
Watson never won the PGA, and his major wins occurred in an eight year period.

This all ancient history now, the fields are ten times deeper in quality, there’s always a young gun on form challenging for a title.

Tiger is Tiger, and Bryson is not Tiger. (I called it right on Tiger winning one more major when the smart money said no chance).

I could agree with swing thought. But most tour players do not hop from one method or pattern to another often during their career. BDC may talk changes but he is refining the same method more than making wholesale changes. Making changes is what harmed Spieth, not he game.

He’s going to have change forced upon him regardless, he won’t physically be able to keep with this style beyond another 18 months.

A loose limbed Finau, DJ or possibly Woodland can keep swinging fast, Bryson can’t.

While I agree with you whole hearted.....there is a certain part of the population that is fixated on what club is hit into the green rather than who has the lowest score at the end of the competition....

Well that’s just silly!😏 And here I thought the idea of the game was to get the ball into the hole in as few strokes possible? Was that a rule change?
Are we playing golf or paint by number?

LOL! .....Well, there are some, not all.....some that would like to see Pros hit long Irons into Par4's. Let it be known that I am not one of them....LOL! For this to happen the loft of the modern clubs will have to be changed because todays Pro can hit Pitching Wedge 160 yards, my PW won't sniff that distance....

You mean so now the number on the club matters to some? To “fix” this issue we just need the manufacturers to print a big 6 on the PW?
Hogan’s famous 1 iron shot was 213 yards.  I see 200+ second shots on tour all the time so what’s the beef? 😏

because a 1 iron has a 5 on with todays clubs.....don't get me wrong, I'm being a little sarcastic.......I agree with you.
