2020 Pelican Women's Championship

Definitely a very un-Sei Young like day, but when the chasers aren't putting any pressure on the leader why chance it? Solid round, and another trophy. Congrats.

Ally is probably a bit disappointed, but heck, a 1st and a 2nd is nothing to be unhappy about.

Tis the season for great stories. Stephanie follows Sophia with an unlikely high finish given that she was within one shot of losing her card last season. Nice bounce back from a shaky start. That bogie putt on the final hole was clutch. Worth at least $20K.

Lydia continues to impress. Welcome back.

Rough day for Minjee. Yikes.

I'm happy with my pick of J. Song. Nice top 10.

Definitely liked the course. Plenty of birdies to be had, but it was certainly no pushover. Hope the event stays on the sch for some time.

Jin Young Ko def didn't have it today. I was really surprised to see how short she hit the ball. Average driving distance was in the 240s or so. Xiyu Lin was steady all day long until 18 where she dropped her 2nd in the water. Then walked back to her preferred distance, dropped one, then hit the stick on her 4th shot and saved bogey. Nanna Madsen can run hot when things are not going her way.

I arrived a bit early to watch Bianca Pagdanganan on the range. Waited for her to get up to the driver. First two swings I was like meh, then she unloaded after that. Impressive to watch. When she can get it turning over it's very impressive. She plays an AD BB shaft in her driver. Didn't catch the weight or flex but I'm guessing it's 6x. Only other lady I have ever seen play that shaft before is MJ Hur a few years ago. Low launch, low spin FTW.

it's the 6S... 60ish gms

OK, I'm a believer now.  Congrats SYK!  She quietly goes about her business and plays boring golf.  I wish I could do that!

Boring but pretty aggressive golf though.....she stays on the attack;  rarely missing shots with her homemade swing.....

You've finally shined a light on what's I was wondering; "her homemade swing".  That's why I was never wowed by Sei Young.  It's nothing compared to the majestic swing of Nelly Korda.   I'll be patient, I'll give Nelly more time to deliver all her potential.

Hopefully, Nelly's back injury won't become a chronic topic of discussion in the media.

I've never found SYK's approach to be boring, but it's a matter of opinion.  She's aggressive, you can't shoot -31 without going after it.

There are all sorts of limitations to the way the tour measures things, but SYK is currently the longest Korean player in the LPGA's driving distance stat and #16 overall.

And that's the beauty of it.  Her swing is all hers.  PLEASE don't fix what isn't broken.  Many tour pros have ruined careers from breaking what got them there.

@tbowles411 COMPLETELY agree.....whether it's DJ, Streb, JT Freddie......play your own body's swing.....not somebody's else's thoughts on a swing....

@postfold.......I didn't call her game boring......she's excitingly aggressive to me and has a nice disposition.......love the fact of her winning a major and hopefully this opens the door for more.......

Not sure if you're old enough but Tom Purtzer mesmerized golf fans with a dreamy swing but could only muster 5 wins I believe.........as we all know , it's how many not how!

Sei Young and Brooke share the ability to attack. Sometimes it bites them in the backside, but overall it generally puts them in contention. They rarely seem to be leaning towards the cautious shot.

I laughed yesterday at the par 3 9th, Brooke and Sei Young both hit the exact same shot, directly at the flag with no thought of bail out and both got the exact same hard bounce and same miss and exact same bogey lol

I was surprised by club selection.....Ko hit 8i on same line while SYK n Brooke hit 7i.....you weren't spinning irons back so not to play for release was unusual 🤔

Short seemed pretty sloping, undulating and unpredictable, I'm betting there was a specific carry distance if you were deciding to go for it and go right at it.

I taped it.......I'll go back and watch again.....

Here's the view from the tee.....green slopes from left to right with wind off the right and slightly helping......Lydia Ko hit a knockdown 8i landing at about 150......about 1/3 into the green.....Brooke hit it about 5yds further , flatter and more left than Ko.....

SYK hit 7i flushed on Ko's line but flew it almost pin high and it went long......

Sei Young came close but just a little bit short in her bid to become #1 but Jin Young ko has no margin for error now, she'll need good finishes to keep the top spot.

I actually don't mind who amongsts the 2 are number 1..... id be keen to see how they duke it out for it though -- as well as how they handle being #1 once they get there... So Yeon said it wasn't as straightforward as it was as did JDay during his time, etc etc... Sometimes, i truly wonder what you get from being #1 (vs #2)... bragging rights offset by more pressure, i guess...

And, they are two of the winningest players on tour since 2016.
