Titleist Pinehurst Package Jan-Mar 2021

Recommended Posts

Just went the past few days. Perfect weather. Played #1 on the first day. Then #2 the next morning. Ended up skipping the cradle and fitting. Was just too beat from walking #2 and the wife wanted to do stuff together. Overall a great experience and would like to do it again next year. Great value imo.

Going to be there too.. 80 Fri, 50s the next three days (my 3 days) and back up to 60s and 70s. Unreal luck. Oh well, should still be a blast.

1 and 3 you can add on for $50 if you have already played a round. No love for 4 or just no availability?

I would love to play #4 but apparently there is no availability. #4 is my favorite so far of the Pinehurst 9 (only played 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 so far).

Agreed, sorry for my bad luck. If I wasn’t going it would be 80 the whole weekend for ya. It will be fun no matter what.

What courses are you playing and how many in your party?

My wife and I are going. She had foot surgery and can no longer play. But I am playing 2/4/Tobacco RD. I have the cradle booked as well with the package.

Good deal! Hope you enjoy your time. Hope your wife’s foot heals up and you can enjoy the game together in the future.

I know some have skipped the Cradle booked and I would say it is worth playing. Does not take long and a lot of fun in a group of players for beers at the end.

I ended up canceling tobacco rd, changing my flight and moving my round on #2. Yesterday was in the 40s and rained all day. Was supposed to play 2 yesterday so I decided I would switch it and play today. Glad I did, because today was beautiful.

I don't actually love Pinehurst #2. I get why it is ranked #6 in the country. It is a great layout with amazing history and architecture. That being said, I'd rather play the Bandon courses, Sand Valley courses, Kiawah Ocean course etc. It just isn't my favorite. My wife and I will probably make the trip again when she can play and is healthy, but I wouldn't put it as my top 3 or 4 favorite golf trips. Though, missing out on Tobacco Rd, Pine Needles, Mid pines, Southern Pines etc is a big deal and the quantity is tough to beat.

Just totally different beasts.

I would definitely say the entire lineup of courses at Bandon kicks Pinehurst's butt. I don't think anyone would argue that. Pinehurst has one world-class course, one excellent course, and 7 medium to good courses. Bandon has depending on the rater 3-4 world class and 1-2 excellent courses.

Pinehurst #2 is tough because it is so radically different style wise from the courses you listed. It sneaks up on you with its difficulty and the greens can be a b****

The modern resorts have really nailed down "fun" golf that can still be challenging.

That said the Pinehurst area has so much history and charm, and the density of quality courses is unbeatable.

I will say adding a round at Tobacco Road and Dormie to a Pinehurst trip dramatically ups the "fun" factor and puts it into more close contention with some of the other resorts you mentioned.

I understand your opinion on #2.  It's a great course but not my favorite in the area. History aside that is.  I like Mid Pines and Pine Needles better personally.

Bandon is in a different world.

The pinehurst area is so cool. We loved walking around and seeing all of the history, trophies, photos etc. Pinehurst can't be beat (in the US) when it comes to that.

Regarding the actual package, it really is a great deal. The breakfast was great. I ended using the $200 credit on golf balls.. Prov1 and AVXs are $66! 😂 They didn't have any scotty's or other Titleist clubs in stock it seemed. Though at a 30% markup I don't think I'd be buying them there anyway.

Not familiar with NC winters - is it going to be cold and rainy? Snow?

Hit or miss. I went last year, friday, saturday sunday. The high those 3 days was 49 I believe. The entire week before and after was in the 60s and 70s. I went the last weekend in Feb. I think you more likely to get a day in the 50s than below it though.

Agreed.

Obviously everyone's threshold/perspective is different.

I went back when they used to offer this package through the end of March; booked it the very last weekend eligible and had great early spring weather.

Personally I won't chance Jan/Feb.

Like others have mentioned it can be a bit of a toss up. Average is going to be 30s at night and low 50s during the day.

However, there is about an equal chance you could get a few days in the 60s-70s as there is of getting a few days where it doesn't get above 40. I'd say snow or freezing rain is always a possibility, but it's not typical for that part of NC.

This used to go into March as we went and hung out after the rounds and watched the NCAA tourney with everyone.  Bummer they shorten the dates as Jan/Feb can be very iffy on weather.

They don’t really need to offer it onto the spring. Demand there is at an all time high.  I got quotes a price for June that was about $400 more per player than it was in 2019.

Yup. Last year they offered it in March was 2021 when they were still in pandemic recovery mode. Then for basically the entire 2021 season and 2022 they experienced record level demand (just like every other destination golf resort).

Does this typically sell out as we get closer? I was thinking about waiting to see if I could do a spur of the moment as a single or maybe get a 4some, book the week before if work breaks right. I’m an 8 hour drive so I could avoid flights.

I called Friday and the lady told me it is almost sold out and dates were limited.  She said as a single I should be able to get something, but to consider booking soon.

can’t count on “spur of the moment” at any of these places. Just not the reality of golf tourism post-covid.

maybe streamsong in July but that’s about it.
