When watching tour players on TV, what do you focus on?

I concentrate on fast forwarding through the commercials and putts. I can watch the whole broadcast in 3 minutes after it’s done.

The quality of the course and how they play it.  Then the WAGs shown, mostly on Sundays.  It’s research.

First of all - i ”tape” everything and watch afterwards, except for The Open and Masters non-covid. 
then, i fast forward all commercials, putt line examinations and leaderboards. As well as players uninteresting.

First two days I will mostly kind of learn the course, get a feel for it, say last 5-6 holes. I dont watch putting at all. I look more at new players I am not so familiar with. 
Weekend, its all about the competition. If fellow central Scandinavians(NOT western Scandinavians) are up there I follow them closely, but otherwise, its the top of the leaderboard that I focus on.
 

(Unfortunately, not so many fellow countrymen do well these days any longer. In golf and in other sports. We do bad in many areas, significantly worse than the other Scandinavian countries. There are reasons but due to forum rules I will not go into details with that)

Watching golf is great but most of it is just a highlight reel... I like to see the guys that are struggling 😂

 

Its nice to see how they put a score together / handle themselves when they're not playing their best.  Really helps me maintain some perspective and realistic expectations about my game

Going by the other thread in this section regarding shorts, it seems a lot of people are watching just staring at the players legs wishing they could see them in shorts for some reason lol

With some exceptions, it's really amazing how many guys are on plane. Something I try to work on.

I try to watch landing areas, especially chipping and around greens. I have a tendency to really focus on the flag / hole and lose track of where I should land something and let it roll out.

Setup.  It's the only part of a pro game that i can emulate.

Course management.

 

Namely, pay attention to how consistently player after player hits to the general same area of a hole. 

 

A few examples last week:

 

- Nearly every shot on 17 is to the fat side of the green despite having as little as sand wedge in a players hand. 

 

- Everyone's tee shot on 18 was started near the right rough. A straight drive ended up in the pine straw and a great drive was a draw into the fairway. No one was flirting with the water despite it affording a shorter approach.

 

It may seem obvious but it really speaks to managing your game around a course and putting yourself in positions where you can comfortably make par without needing to execute perfect shots.
