I'm surprised Jerry doesn't know the real reason Brooke has the flag tended. It's an advantage to have the caddie watch the putt from the opposite direction.

Ariya is just lost, she throws good rounds but way too many bad one right now or she'll make a bunch of mistakes to ruin a good round

What’s the point of being long if you hit 3 wood every hole and you are basically the same length as every one else .

Especially when all data show it's more advantageous the closer to the green you are.

Oy. The LPGA leaderboard is bonkers again. It shows In Gee with a birdie on the first, and scores on 10 through 13. She decide to skip the rest of the front nine? Lol.

Nelly on a real tear with six birdies in seven holes. 

 

Brooke with a 340 yd drive on the 3rd. That thing ran out for a good 70 yds. Gotta love downwind drives in firm conditions.

I played this course the last weekend before they shut it down for the tournament. It's a fun course, and they are pushing the tees way back. The course itself is not that hard--they can use the distance to make it tough, and, as someone said, the winds can get crazy on the West side of the island. If the winds come up a lot, should be a good test.

Rooting for Rose Zhang.  Good round  -5 Day 1.  Hope she can keep going low.

Of the 47 players at -3 or better, 21 players (45%) had afternoon tee times. Did the TV crew mention the scoring average difference between the morning and afternoon waves? Seems the morning wave had a slightly easier time out there. That said, looking at the bottom of the scoreboard, the vast majority played in the afternoon.

I agree, without the wind the girls would tear the course apart. I didn't realize the fairways were so wide, so like Inbee mentioned in her interview it's really a 2nd shot course.  Good iron and short game player should play well, although when the wind is up it also make putting a little difficult also, seen quite a good players 3-putt yesterday.

Ally Ewing mentioned the wind didn't come up until their back 9, I think the wind is the ultimate factor, just a little tougher to hit and hold greens and just a little tougher to putt and hold your lines, especially if you don't have pace on the putt.  One of Angela Stanford's putt almost turned 90 degrees when it was dying by hole lol

She starts at Stanford this fall. Anyone's guess. Many pros who played college golf bailed after a few seasons, e.g. Danielle Kang. Many others stuck it out until graduation, e.g. Jennifer Kupcho.

 

My bet is that Rose will play two seasons. She's too talented to spend four years playing for nothing.

How would it work if Rose won, 1st prize money split between the rest the field who make the cut?  Cause depending on the size of the cut that around 2K per player, so the bottom would be happy, it would almost double their check lol

I think that everyone just moves up a spot on the $$ payout.  So if an amateur won that would make the 2nd place finisher the ultimate “lucky loser”. 😄
