Green-reading books likely gone from the tour next season

Honestly I’ve already thought off the work around . You can go get a true roller sim that accordingly with a caddy until you make the putt find the sim point where you started the ball and figure out on your fingers what percent grade that is . That’s now 2% it’ll take a little more work to achieve what you were able to do to calibrate with a level but it’ll be effectively the same and not “using technology “

you may even see guys employing these on the greens during practice rounds as its knowledge gained from rolling a ball .

Just reading about Rory's thoughts on it on ESPN: https://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/31645621/four-pga-champ-rory-mcilroy-says-green-reading-books-banned-eliminated

Looks like arm-lock putting is next, which does seem to go against the spirit of the anchoring rule, as "locking" the putter to your left arm essentially creates a single anchor point of your left shoulder.  All for that too.

Wonder if they'll ever get rid of Adam Scott's broomstick, or that other guy on the champions tour who wins everything.

I am profoundly, aggressively, vehemently and completely ... indifferent to whether they are used or not. Changing the rule will likely help some golfers, and hurt others. Some obsess on numbers, and others play more intuitively. And older golfers will naturally have an advantage - greens books can slightly mitigate the lack of experience on a course (a guy playing his fifth Masters does have a light edge over someone playing his first).

Either way, however, I don't really see the rule much impact (if any at all) on putting stats.

This is great news!  It should be a game where you are rewarded by your ability and skill, as well as one's experiences.  These guys should be using "committee approved" yardage books and putting all of their notes in there.  The big can of worms I could see is the determination of knowledge gained from previous years notes in older yardage books they would have from prior years. What is true experience and what is other potential "prohibited" information?

I know all these guys use rangefinders in practice rounds and then make notes in their books.  Are they restricted from using the ones with slope in them to gain info and then make notes in the books, or not?  This would be similar to copying "knowledge" down in the committee approved yardage book which was previously gained from the greens books.  Also, who is going to be policing the yardage books and what is in them?  Do you need to submit them for inspection prior to the rounds?

Seems like a mess.  But I do applaud the effort of the TOUR.

We use slope during practice rounds and when we’re walking the course

Typically in terms of what is actually on the greens in a yardage book depends on who is making them. One guy gives more detail than the other. For the most part there will be arrows for severe ridges and I’m assuming the 5x5 grids that cover the surface area of the green itself but I’m not 100% sure they’ll be included.

It will be impossible to check 300+ books a week. It will all most likely be on the honor system

This transition will be like when they changed the size of the green grids in 2019. For me it sucks because now im having to pay out $1000+ for new books this year when I have years of notes like what my guy hit each shot and each round of every event we’ve played

No greenbooks, no armlocks, no broomsticks. Would be nice.

I'd like to add: No aimpoint, no caddie assistance, and implement a shot clock
