PING i210 replacement when?

While looking through PING's website to see who else was using the "Prototype Irons", I noticed Stewart Cink had them on his WITB page. Checked Getty for some photos of him this weekend and found these.

 

I know a few people will be happy to see a U on the bottom of one of his wedges.

Sole doesn't look too wide and i wouldn't say the hosel is overly long in that pic. No glare worries at all either. The i500's are in mortal danger.

Stewart Cink took a while to move from i25’s to i210’s.  That he moved so quickly to i230’s is interesting.

Thrilled to see they went to the Blueprint numbers. Those will blend nicely for me.

 

Also interested to see the toe-screw being so "south". They definitely look in a different orientation. I've never needed a big clean out of a toe-screw after a round, but these look like they'd catch some mud. Not a complaint; more just an observation of how they're different.

 

Either way, what I'm liking is the tech story is going to be a good one this time… not just "cast but buttery" -- this has the makings of a game-changer. I hope that's true.

Also looking at his bag setup, looks like his next wedge after UW is a 56, which suggests pretty traditional lofts on the i230s which I would be happy to see. Maybe UW in the 50-52 range?

They'll be nearly, if not exactly the same loft and lie as the 210s, meaning the U will come in at 50º.

 

Don't use a pro's wedge loft to derive anything; they play enough that loft isn't the issue. Tiger went 48-56. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Look good. Just hope that they’re not ridiculously expensive! if they are a moderate improvement in performance and don’t break the bank I will get a set. however, if they have increased their pricing significantly I will just keep playing my i210’s. Heck, the i210’s are what kicked my eye 2’s out of the bag. Lol.

I agree. Lessons the bag appeal for sure.  That said, if it works it works.  I don’t care anymore what my shoes look like, how beautiful the putter is, or the irons bag appeal.   I want to beat my playing partners and shoot lower scores.  If I can do that wearing loudmouth clothes and a Bubba pink shaft, a LAB putter and some Squairz, so be it.

I'm with Minarets, if Ping didn't think certain changes would improve performance, they wouldn't have made said changes. I'm looking forward to hearing about these from Ping themselves.

Unlikely, but would love a couple of different stock shaft options.  Modus 120 or the old Project X. 

 

Will be a hard sell kicking the MP-20 MMCs out of the bag, but looks promising so far.  Not super fussed about the screw, and also interested in the science of putting it where it is.

 

Has there been a more successful iron on tour than the i210 on all tours?

Excited to see more about the i230s hopefully this week. From the pics the soles look similar to i210 which could be perfectly fine once trying them. I strongly dislike the i59 irons, which makes me wish that Ping could offer a i230 with a standard sole and then a i230 "pro" with a sole width closer to iBlade. Once demos are in hand though that thought could fly out the window lol.

I’ll “shock” everyone here, I hope there is a thicker top line, I hope they are more forgiving, and they are, gulp…larger (or at least more progressive) than the i500 line, i59, blueprint ect.  I’m sure these irons will look great, no one on this forum will be more discerning of looks than actual tour pros.  I , for one, am getting sick of all of the pressure to create clubs that are for the top .001 percent of golfers to play ONLY.  There are getting to be too many “elite” player options from manufacturers, a bunching of products on this extreme end as everyone believes they are better than they actually are at golf these days.  YouTubers complaining that even GII irons are too thick or too offset ect. when they are not the intended audience.  Ping’s product line should be a gentle progression of size, forgiveness, ect through the line from blade to SGI.  Ping was born from clubs that were forgiving, cavity back irons that people of all skill levels could play, that was the magic, not a bunch of tiny, intimidating irons, non forgiving, butter knifes, focused on one specific ultra low handicap golfer.  Ping was born from me and you, mid’s and low handicaps, having an iron that suited me, and a Mark Calcavecchia caliber player at the same time, no other company did this.  I now look at the lineup and say, OK, the 425 is a bit too much for me as it is chasing the launch monitor, and everything else is way too small and unforgiving.   Sorry for the rant……

The toe screw looks like it's coming through the sole on the 4 iron while appearing significantly "higher" on the U wedge.

They do make G425 or G710 for those wishes.

His 3-PW lofts are pretty much modern 4-GW lofts.
