2021 Volunteers of America Classic (Jul 01 - 04)

Recommended Posts

Anne Van Dam was touted as the great European hope to conquer the LPGA Tour as I recall, the transition from the LET has obviously been difficult as it has for others like Esther Henseleit who was a delight to watch and who appears to be making some headway.

Lovely Leona Maguire is establishing herself well on tour.

Gaby with a nice round to get on the first page of the leaderboard. She's been quiet this year. Two top tens in late April and early May, and then not much.

They just posted the start times for the third round. The cut moved to +1. Split tees with threesomes. First groups tee off at 1:30 pm, which is 30 minutes ago. Hmmm, website must be slow to update. Either that or it's CDT.

They shouldn't be playing on that course it just doesn't grow grass well there for what ever reason. The tribute across the street has history of  bad greens that they have to replace a lot. So many issues it was better when it was in Los Colinas.  They also used to get a better field.

After this year if they do not get a better course I expect the LPGA will leave DFW and go somewhere else in Texas like the the woodlands.

It’s the fact it’s next to the lake. The soil is more like mud. A field of mud with a layer of grass. If you look at the vegetation around the course there are very few tall trees because a 6ft bush is big for this course simply because it’s hard for large roots to take hold.

I love the course itself, it has a links feel to it but only 1.65 inches of rain and it looks like a bulldozer went through and razed the course.  I am sure a lot of the construction around has affected the natural drainage of the area. The area around the course is pretty blah, typical suburb with overpriced, semi-mcmansions and not a lot to do. Las Colinas was nice but not great. Why not try Trinity Forest, TPC Las Colinas , Irving Golf Club, Bent Tree, Royal Oak or Brooke Hollow? Lots of quality courses in the area.

Didn't TPC Las Colinas host a PGA event for years? They certainly have the room for the necessary infrastructure.

Has any TPC course hosted an LPGA tournament? I can't think of one.

The course the gals are playing is in great condition vs. this below.🤣

This picture below came originally from a WRX member who played Swaneset a few years ago during one of our drought summers.

It's the #2 hole on the Links course.

Oh wow. It’s just shocking to see a high level professional tour event being played in those conditions.

I remember someone in another thread saying people we’re leaving other states to move to Texas and cited “great weather” as one of the reasons. 😂

They are not wrong. More years than not, you can play year round.

I've made four mid-December golf trips to Texas. Sure, weather wasn't ideal, but I was playing. Worst case you sit out a week, and tee it up the following week.

Anne was touted for having a beautiful golf swing, and pounding drives. She did have a good 2018 and 2019 on the LET, which means very little when you cross the pond and play with the best. Anne needs to ditch the driver and start playing more from the fairway, just like Fassi. Both on top of driving distance, both at the bottom of driving accuracy and both can't make a cut.

I've never had any desire to putt with the flag stick in from any 'shorter' distance.  Especially with the wind moving it around

Putting with the stick in should only be done by poor putters or when you can't control speed well on a certain putt.  Any other time it either doesn't help or hurts.  It says alot about a pro's putting confidence when they are routinely leaving the stick in.

Yeah, I'm shocked to see a consistently top player like Jin Young Ko doing it on every length putt
