Watched a pro do one of my little pet peeves

I always chip it closest to the hole, that way I putt last. With the flag out, I lay my wedge on the flagstick. Now since I'm putting last, someone else has to put the flag back in  and by doing so will have to grab my wedge and hand it to me. This is the type of service I have come to expect.

And if I hole out first I walk to the flagstick, pick it up, and leave your club laying on the ground.  Not my job of minding your equipment.

Is it worse than people who just drop the flag stick? Pull it, stand it up and then let it fall like a tree? I at least catch it with my putter a few inches before it lands and set it gently.

Exactly how much pressure do you think it takes to bring a wedge off the ground? 
 

How much pressure do you think is distributed on a size 11 golf shoe from someone that weighs 200 pounds?

 

never seen it leave a mark on any halfway decent golf course. Soft greens running about a 6, sure it’s possible if big foot steps on the club. Also guarantee his spikes would leave much more of a mark in that situation.

Well size 11 is probably about 13" long, probably 4" wide on average, for 52 square inches. So that's about 4 PSI.

The edge of the back of the wedge which is pushing down into the green is certainly < 1" square, and most definitely requires more than 4 lbs to lever it up, so yeah, standing on the club is worse than walking on the green.

but do you actually press the club directly down into the green/ground, or more pull the wedge's bottom edge so it rocks upward?

Stepping on a clubhead to pick it up on a green is a rookie move. Laying wedges on the green is okay. But what makes me cringe are guys that let the flag slam down on the green.

I asked our Super about this, he laughed out loud, One for saying if that's the worst thing that happens to his greens that day, then he's had a very good day.   Two, that someone would actually be bothered by someone else doing this.   Well three, he said I spend too much time reading stupid  things on the internet 🙂

It's easier to use your putter to pick up the handle of a wedge.

 

I thought people laid wedges on the flagstick to avoid forgetting them.
