Shipping a Golf Bag

Wasn’t sure where to post this, but I am looking to ship a golf bag and it’s looking like $100+!!! Any tips or tricks?!? 
 

HELP!!

 

to edit for clarity. I sold the bag on classifieds and I am trying to ship it to a buyer.

Sorry, I should be more specific. I sold one in classifieds and the price to ship is insane.

I always use Ship Sticks - have never had a problem. 

 

But they basically have two prices, one for a "standard" golf bag (up to 42 pounds), and one for an XL golf bag (up to 54 pounds). Included in the price is $2 in insurance.

 

But - what, exactly, are you shipping? Just a golf bag, or a golf bag full of clubs? If it is the former, that only weighs (at best) four or five pounds. Should be cheap.

OP everything is crazy expensive to ship now.  I sold a set of car floor mats recently (very light weathertech) and had to return the person's money to them.  It was going to cost $63!  Feel your pain...

I've sold many an item, some large too.  Always used UPS and never had a problem.

Yep I basically gave a bag away recently by not doing homework. Usps is pry cheapest depending where it’s going in the country.

Definitely need to price all carriers - selling and shipping bags suck.  Fortunately for me, I donate my bags/clubs to my course which forwards them to high schoolers.  I can also use them (local course) for shipping items which is a huge savings because of business account.

I've considered buying some vintage bags offered on eBay. The shipping prices have been all over the place... low maybe $25 to arrive in three weeks, another about $100 to ship an $80 used bag.

What kind of bag? Diameter of bag.  Sometimes just a few inches in one measurement makes a big difference with UPS.

These guys inflate the shipping to make more profit.

It’s a vessel bag. Box is 36”x12x11 and weighs about 7 pounds. UPS quoted me $99 as the cheapest option.

The reason for the cost is that UPS uses the volume to determine a shipping weight.  I got 75.33

Pretty sure you can get this done for under $45. I did a quick check and that's what it came up with.

Using shippo online I got 40 via ups ground and that was me shipping from SC to CA. would be cheaper if closer. 36x12x11 and 7 pounds

Wow, thanks. Had never heard of them. I'll probably still ship my clubs using Ship Sticks, but this looks like an alternative for other things.

Just FYI, lugless has specific rates for shipping golf clubs, too.

Just got a Wilson NFL staff size bag, not sure how much it was to ship to me to CA, But I think it was around $25.

I've sold plenty of them on here and you take a bath on the shipping for sure almost always (especially if shipping to a coast).

 

I've tried UPS and they're always way more expensive than USPS in my experience, and this is coming from Missouri, so I'm pretty much in the middle of the country.  I've paid upwards of $70 to ship to some places on the coast.  From now on I find out where I'm shipping them and make them split the shipping on top of the sale price becaues its just that stupid.

good info here, $34 is a steal to ship a bag.  I attempted to sell a bag on BST once, and due to my own ignorance didnt even really consider the shipping cost, once the bag sold, and i got the shipping price, i was selling at a loss.  Luckily the buyer was cool with us just cancelling the transaction and me fully refunding his money.  Not alot of profit margin, and insane shipping costs, make bags a really tough sell.

Main takeaway from this is to do your due diligence on shipping costs before attempting to sell anything. Have boxes ready and items packed. Calculate cost from your location to the furthest location possible to give you an idea of the max cost for shipping your item. You can also factor in shipping cost in your asking price to help alleviate the expense.

There’s been some talk of using poshmark (I think that’s what it was) to ship as anything under a certain weight was like $10 regardless of size. Don’t recall the specifics but worth searching around for.

Ive always used www.pirateship.com and had nothing but positive results. I just shipped a bag from NC to NJ for $20 using them. I highly recommend.
