Ping color dot system.....does it really make a difference for the average golfer

Curios if you think going from a green dot to a standard black dot would make that much of difference for a bogey golfer.  I really want to buy the ping 710's but I dont see any you can order new using the green dot

A 2.5* difference (more upright) is significant. The smart play would be to buy the blacks and send em back to Ping and have them adjusted to yellow. Cost is minimal.

The reason you can't order 710's anymore is there is a new 725 coming down the road.

That depends on how old are your green dot fitted irons. Reason why I ask is that long ago when I played Ping G5 irons, I was fitted in green dot (2.25 upright at that time) and that is the standard black dot now. Just an FYI.

The higher loft the club, the more it matters.  A one degree lie difference in a wedge is very noticeable over enough shots.

Plus you'll adjust to the clubs in bad ways.

Get them and go to a Ping fitter to check the lie angles. Ping will make your black dot irons into green dot irons and even change the paint fill. Get what you want and send them in. They do great work.

I was fit for ping around 15 years ago when I purchased the Ping G10 irons and they suggested a green dot.  I then sold those after 5 years and bought the ping karsten irons in green dot and they seemed to work fine.  Just thinking of getting some irons but rather than guess I should probably just get fit.  I really like the reviews on the ping 710 irons as they appear to be super game forgiving with long distance but the problem is they are not doing custom orders anymore for that line.

Rumor is that the ping 725 will be released sometime in future so maybe I should just wait until I can be fit for those.  I am 41 now so whatever irons I buy will at lease need to last me 5-7 years

The fitting chart Ping has is a great start if you can't get in front of a fitter.  It can get you close to where you need to be for sure but 1 degree up or down can affect you negatively for sure.  You can do some measurements that Ping suggests on their site and see where you fall.  Then find a set that is one color code up or down and send them into Ping.  Not sure about how backed up their club department is but they seem to be having some issues right now.

Getting the correct lie and length are very important. It will help the person be a more consistent ball striker. Also, it takes the mental guessing out. Meaning if you play bad or hit some bad shots was it you or was it your equipment.

PINGs chart is a good starting point, but it’s not perfect. A fitting would be more beneficial IMO.

This is a great answer and probably the most cost effective should the length, flex, and grip work for you...

Seconded on all these guys saying to send them back to Ping. Bought some i210s at a good price and sent them back for dot and loft altering. Cost $50 for that, plus the shipping to get them there. Then they charge a minimal fee to ship them back and they'll literally have them turned around for you in like, a day. It was about 2 weeks total for me from Tennessee to Arizona and back and they had them shipping back out the day after they received them. For all of the backorders and issues they're having on new stuff, I was extremely impressed at the low cost and turnaround time.

The repair department is very quick. In the last month I have sent them two different repair/adjustments and each was 8-10 days door to door, and I am pretty far from Arizona.

I had them adjust my G425 crossover to blue dot after I did my iron fitting and I was fitted blue dot instead of black dot. I have only had one session with it but I am hitting it cleaner.

Is there a limit on how far they can bend them?  So you are saying if I buy the black dots brand new ping can bend them to a green dot?

Yup, they can do it. They’ll also change the dot to green to match the new lie angle.

You can always have them adjusted to green at any time. My advice would be to try the black cc. If you notice they tend to miss right more than the others you have played, you can have them adjusted to green.

For me, I had to sign a waiver. But again +1/2 White to STD BLK is quite significant.

Ping can bend them 5* either way if they are newer models.

+1/2" and White dot have a lie angle of 2.25 degrees upright.  Bringing them to standard length and Black dot is pretty simple.  The only hard part would be to swingweight the clubs.

With respect, I don’t think this is true. I know they changed their system around 2017 but black dot being 2.25* upright? I don’t know about that.
