I ended up making this set a one length setup. I 3D printed plastic weight screws to take out the weight from the PW and 9 iron.

Very nice 👍

Always thought Ping irons needed the collars to sit the shaft right in the bore? Did you use any beads to center?

I have used CAD to create and 3D print collars that fit down inside of the hosel that take up the space of the collars that would normally come attached to the ferrule.  After the collars are inserted, the shaft goes into the hosel just like any other iron and the BB&F ferrules sit on top.  Hope that helps.

Shafting beads will never fully fill in the gap left by the collared ferrules and you shouldn't really rely on them to do so.  You can use brass shims but they really only cover the bottom part of the shaft tip and not where the collar would normally sit.

I'm intrigued, as I've had issues w/ BB&F ferrules just due to not having collars on some irons that, while were for sure .355 taper tip irons, could easily have held a .370 parallel tip shaft at that point after a few rounds of shafting / reshafting experimentation over the years.

What material did you use to do the printing?  Is it standard 3D printing nylon?  Did you use a caliper to take a shaft measurement and then use that to develop your model?  How have they held up over time?

I'm using PLA+ for the material and yes, used calipers to measure the depth and width of the area where the collar sits.  PLA+ isn't too different than ABS which is what most typical plastic items are made from so I expect longevity to be about the same as any standard plastic shim that you'd pick up from somewhere like Golfworks.

I've seen other clubmakers take a collared ferrule and cut off the collar to use down inside of the hosel in order to install custom ferrules but I figured why waste a good collared ferrule when I can print the same thing in a similar plastic.

ABS and PLA are not anything alike. Your collars will still work though 🙂
