BB&F inspo please

Hi all

Sorry if there's another thread just like this. I've been searching the forum quite a lot looking for inspiration for my next build.

I've decided to use BB&F's as I have it on my wedges and other iron sets, however I'm lacking ideas and would appreciate if you could share some of your own BB&F builds.

Personally I'm not looking for something overly crazy with tons of different colors, but something other than black/white/grey would be nice as that's what I have on my current clubs.

The set I'm building is Srixon ZX7 with PX LZ 6.5.

Thank you for the kind words Ozzy. I take pride in turning a proper ferrule. Full credit to those in the Forums who have lent their expertise over the past decade. Lots of screw ups and many sets built later.  

 

I use a Golfworks 30” belt sander outfitted with a DuraBrite felt ferrule turning belt.

 

I work up the ferrule from the bottom to the top in stages. Soft hands, limited pressure. My goal is to leave an even taper.

 

Wipe down the ferrule with clean cotton shirt.

 

Douse strips of white cotton in acetone (good and wet) and spin in my hand.

Let sit while I turn the next ferrule. Return and spin in the clean cotton shirt.

 

Finish with some Mother’s car wax on a microfibre towel. 

I check the surface finish repeatedly during the process and repeat a step if I’m not satisfied.

Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to explain your process! I had a feeling you had quite the routine, because all of them look flawless. I personally have always done it by hand with different grits of auto sandpaper, then acetone, then some grip solvent to get the shine back.. Down the road I may look into the 30" belt sander. Also I like the mothers car wax finishing step. #Californiagold

You have just outlined the process I once used before I purchased the belt sander.  Initially the tool was intimidating and the results were less than stellar, but within a few sets I had found my rhythm and would never go back. With repetition you get a feel for the machine. Ultimately, lots of ways to turn a quality ferrule. I have seen a few different approaches that achieve beautiful results. 
 

PS - The cool thing about a car wax is that one can reapply easily to restore shine.

A metal refining shop that is located a few hours from my house. Fortunate to have made a connection with a talented tradesman, who’s a fellow golfer, who will pick up a side project here and there.

Wish I had a full set of these. Found the 3i on the bay built like this and had to get it. Not sure if it's BB&F but it's great quality. There are a couple of other boutique ferrule makers trying to gain some traction but Boyd definitely has the popularity.

I just purchased a couple different sets from BB&F and a couple from an Etsy seller for a Haywood build I want to do later this year/next winter.  There are so many cool designs and colorways that the final decision will be a tough choice.

Check out GolfDotz. Heat transfer ball markings. Press your finger over the image for 30 seconds and you are done. Durable, relatively inexpensive, and can be removed far easier than a stamping. Many to choose from.
