BB&F inspo please

Here's my two recent builds (raw finish as well). I wish I had ordered more of those white/silver ferrules 😞  I'd put them on all my new builds.

I have and it was no problem at all. I take a little sauce pan and get some water almost simmering, then take the pan out to my shop and drop the ferrules in there. That and I’d recommend a proper ferrule setting tool too. You can tell .370 is a little tighter than .355 but I’ve never had to ream them to get them to fit.

I also have never reamed, but have used a Golfworks ferrule installation tool and a few hammer blows many times.

ALL shafts are .370 where the ferrule sits.

.355 shafts taper .0075/inch. .0075x2 +.355 = .370

I just built a set with .370 Fujikura Pro Iron shafts, and they were pretty tight.

What I do, is dry fit the shaft into the head. Then hold the ferrule up to the hosel, and put a small pirce of blue tape just a hair below the top of the ferrule, so I know where it will go.

In the past, I've made a "ferrule installer" by drilling a 3/8" hole in a wooden block, and using that to tap the ferrule down to my tape line.
Lately, I just use the head to push it down. for the last inch or so, you need to bang it against the floor. I use a soft wooden block on the floor, or some carpet to do this, especially with graphite shafts.

If you install the ferrules at the same time as the heads, put a drop of epoxy in the ferrule, and on the shaft, and it will act as a lubricant and help the ferrule slide on easier. And also help to keep it from moving. I wish BB&F put grooves inside like Cell Parts did, so they actually get glued in place, and can never move.

Nope, get yourself a 0.370 reamer and it's a piece of cake.

You ream the ferrule, put tiny bit of epoxy on the shaft and it easily slides on.

Anybody have thoughts on a particular BB&F design for my next build? I'm leaning towards the white widow in white or copper. Here's some details and pictures:

 

Heads: Srixon 785/Z-Forged Raw Heads

Shafts: Veylix Alpina Matte Black Shafts

I’ve done 3 sets with BB&F. Only could find pictures of 2. Patrick is easy to work with when looking for something special, put a special order in 4 weeks ago.

Something to keep in mind, you'll get a couple that will split on you. As long as you abrade the inside of the ferrule and the shaft where the whole body will sit, you'll be fine. I have a high SS, and they've heald up. For instance, I'll point this out just for the sake of the discussion; zoom in on the second pic - you can see where I had to epoxy it as a two piece. 

That being said, and even knowing some will split on install/handling, I will buy again.

Those look lovely! I ended up buying the Surfriders yesterday rather than either of the 2" designs, but it was a tough call. Those Tropics were very tempting.

Forgot to post up my wedges I did in June. Need to get around to a rebuild on my irons so I have an excuse to turn down some more.

Very nice.  I've been considering ordering some 2" customs for some vintage clubs.  Wondering if you soak yours in hot water before installing?  Epoxying a split like that isn't a huge deal, just curious about your process.  Personally I've never bothered abrading the inside of a ferrule (I guess unless it's tight enough to need an actual honing), but I always give them a soak in very hot water.  Wondering if abrading + hot water might be enough to keep them consistently in one piece.

No, I use a .370 reamer. The issue is, the ferrules are not true and straight. Add to that, they are not one piece solid and painted, and problems start creaping in. They (to the best of my knowledge, "allegedly"), are layered; so they have the propensity to split when you run a straight reamer or drill bit through. 

 

At the end of the day, no one comes close to the beautiful color ways that BB&F is putting out. Just be aware with the 2", you'll need to have some tricks up your sleeve. As I said before, I'll def keep supporting and buying more.

I have an addiction to swapping ferrules. I think I've done it about 10 times this season. Here is my off season selection for my mp18 mmcs. No idea what they're called. Ordered some and they got lost for about a month. "Off the wall" got released today actually.
