Which current golfer with zero or multiple majors currently, would have their career changed most by winning a/another major?

Tiger Woods....as of now very few if any think he can win again let alone a major.....BUT if he were somehow able to have the stars align just one more time, have Father Time stop and Mother Nature be kind along with  a heap of Divine Intervention, the sporting world would have a story for the Ages (sorry for the JN reference)

I was thinking about saying tiger as well but honestly if he won lets say bay hill or torrey pines it would be the same accomplishment in my eyes as a 16th major...it's not like the major itself is magical for his career... it's beating a full field over 72 holes in his declining condition that will be so awe inspiring...but then again it doesn't seem like he'll be teeing it up much other than the big 4.

For me, it is Adam Scott.

His Masters win was incredible but how he never got over the line in The Open is beyond me. There was obviously Royal Lytham but he made it into at least a share of the lead in the final rounds at Muirfield in 2013 and St Andrews in 2015 as well. That he has the same amount of majors as Shaun Micheel and Ben Curtis must bug him.

I was thinking about him but the question was zero or multiple.

Many many years ago (I’d say 10 years ago), there’s a most overrated golfer thread. The consensus then is Sergio on the male side and Michelle Wie on the female side. Thankfully, each got his/her major.

It feels like the closest we will get to a consensus is Fowler. And I hope he’ll get a major soon.

Wie getting only one is still a disappointment in my opinion.

Is she basically retired at this point? I know she recently had a daughter but outside of that I haven't heard about her in ages

She was recently on the SubPar podcast.  Sounds like she is just being a Mom and enjoying life.  I believe she said she may start playing again but sparingly.

Came out today that that is her done - she will play the US Open this year and then again next year at Pebble Beach and that will be her.

Could be reading the situation completely wrong, but:

1. Wie always struck me as someone who didn't really like golf that much, but played because (a) she could make a lot of money/wouldn't have to get a regular job (b) was really good at it. Again, no insight, but I think she lived a childhood that was golf, golf, golf, overbearing parents and a lot of media, then got to college and got to be a normal teenager. Then with Nike coming by with a bag of money, how do you say no. Also, her life seems pretty good now, almost, why play golf? Not to keep going on here, but I think weirdly this happens to a lot more LPGA players than PGA players. You watch the LPGA, where's Paula Creamer, Morgan Pressel, Lorena (I know she retired but still), imagine if the PGA tour in 2018 just had Spieth/JT/Rory stop playing, and then DJ retired.

2. Fowler to me seems to really like golf, but also understands having a life away from the course is good too. So I think we will see a second life to his career potentially. Let's now forget that Phil and some of these guys didn't win majors until they were mid-30s, so there is a lot of time left for Fowler and a lot of these guys.

What did you want him to hit on a 490 uphill par 4?

What Wie did in her teens such as almost winning a couple of majors vs Karie Webb and Annika plus shooting a 68 at the Sony Open to miss cut by one at a PGA Tour event was nothing short of astounding.   I thought she was going to win bunches and so did many others.  At one point she was one of the highest paid female athletes in the world.  She seems to be at a good place now but oh man if she hadn't.........................(Leadbottom and wrist injuries)

DJ - doesn't quite have the validity he probably deserves since his 2nd major was a rescheduled Masters (counts in my book since AGNC held their tournament and he won it, but the point still stands) and his 24 wins haven't 'wowed' people as people think he's some super-natural talent (which he is not)

Kuchar - would give him his 10th win and first major, elevating him quite a bit, i would think

adam scott - could use a British Open title for sure

Fowler doesn't deserve a major ... 4 or 5 wins is not a career that makes you think he def should've won bigger ...

westwood obviously would benefit, but he wants to suck on that saudi teat ... so ____ him ...

As a Vandy guy and Middle Tennessean, I agree with SNEDS.  His game was custom made for Augusta but then he went and tried to chase distance of his peers and it killed his game.  Although he is a FedEx winner, it would do an amazing things in his career if he could snag one.  The problem is that his play has been so poor lately that he isn't getting to play in the majors these days.

I think Hovland really could use one or some may begin to worry about his ceiling in the future.  Top 10 player in the world and he hasn't finished top 10 in any major in ten career tries.

Cantlay's legacy and his 2021 would be solidly cemented if he won a major.  Would give his career a lot more legitimacy.

Personally, I'd also love to see Cam Smith get one before he turns 30.  He's gained a lot of fans this year and he's definitely close to breaking through.  Seems like he should finish his career with more than one, but that first one is eluding him.

Kuchar solid pick.

Oddly, Rickie is in some ways the Kuchar of his generation. He's ten years younger, but only 4 wins away, both have a players. maybe Fowler can win a couple more and nap a major.

Rocco Mediate maybe? Looks like he robbed a luluemon at this point.

eh, rickie has just always gotten too much credit for his career, which is based on his popularity ... he'd go two years without winning a tournament ... he had a nice year finishing in the top 5 of every major, but that's what he's known for ... top 5 finishes ... his game has never indicated he could be a 10/1 guy, at least to me ... course, the only way we know is if they actually do it, but looking back, he's not someone who was 'close' to having a 10/1 career ...

I think it would be pretty interesting if he went to LIV and won The Open.  There would be some serious handwringing going on.

he's delivered once ... 99.99 percent chance he never delivers again ...
