I am getting to that point slowly. What the delimma is at this time besides whether the WC insurance or medicare is going to pay for it is whether it is a structual problem itself or an issue of the permanant nerve damage in my back. My neurosurgeon who took care of me from the get go thinks it will be because of permant nerve damage. It for me can vary from day to day. Sometimes I can go a month and no problems then all of a sudden wham. Now used to be I could tell you when it was going to rain without listening to the WC. It is raining now and did yesterday too. Honestly except for the fact it is raining I am pain free and could play 18 or more riding. I do have a test scheduled in July to help determine if it is nerve or structural and my Neuro Doc and my regular Doc ( who is a golf bud) will be involved in the tests.

Had both my hips replaced. One 6 years ago and one 3 years ago.  Best thing I ever did.  I can do things I haven't been able to do since I was a teenager.  The sooner you have it done the better.  It gets harder to recover the older you get.

I walk 9 twice a week. Walk 18 once a week. I cycle 3 days a week for a total of 60 miles.  The off day is a day at the range.

Yep they gotta see first if it is structural related or nerve related due to the permanant nerve damage in my back from an accident

I’m waiting for a hip.

But for the original post,

Bullseye putters

Callaway bubble shafts

and I’ve still got a steel shafted Taylormade driver with a head that looks like a thimble. I hit it so well back in the day.

You know you’re an old golfer when…

my first new set was a 2 wood, and 3, 5, 7 and 9 Bruce Wood

my first set of laminated woods was 1 - 2 - 3

i have never owned a 5 wood. Went straight from a 4 wood to Callaway War Bird Heaven Wood.

a Stinger with the Sam Snead Blue Ridges had a whole different meaning

not exactly sure, but I think the ball I used to play was a Tiger (this was before Eldrick was born)

i had a White Fang putter (Jack Nicklaus signature)

How to play golf.
Hit the ball.
Find the ball
Repeat until the ball is in the hole.
Have fun.

Them aerial bombs I used to hit?  More like mortar shells now.  Straight up and down at close range. 😉

You know your old when you play your favorite course and remember when you could easily cut the dogleg over the trees.

Now the trees are to tall and you drive is to short.

I feel old

Im 39 and started golfing in the late 80s.  Truthfully it was already the "post blade" era as everyone and I mean everyone was using Ping Eye 2s.  The 845s were popular, and the Lynx Parallax and DCIs etc.  Everyone was playing the first gen metal woods.  I really only recall seeing persimmon fairway woods in some bags or obscure trouble woods like the Cobra baffler and hogan 7 woods. Bags were naugahyde and had color coordinated head covers chained together.

Walkers and tournament players all used the Ping L8

Back then everyone played either the Tour Balata or the DT Wound and a little later the Tour Professional.  Slazenger balatas were also very popular at our club.  Top Flights were absolute trash and only used by women, kids or cheapskates.

We all used metal spikes and i miss them dearly.  Soft spikes are absolute garbage and proof that humans are too stupid to walk properly. Golf shoes were not water proof and it seemed like my feet were always wet before i left the first tee box from the dew on the ground.

There were two types of putters i would see commonly.  Pings and Pings.

In my lifetime the two biggest equipment changes have been the ball and the waterproof shoe.  The balatas would not fly straight.  You had to shape them or else they would shape themselves.  Modern balls can fly dead straight. I also never thought it possible to have low spin on the driver and high spin on the irons.  Thank you universe.  You can get that for less than 2 bucks per ball at costco lol

The shoes speak for themselves.

Others have probably said these already, but, you know you are an old golfer when you:

- remember playing the 'small' ball, the 1.62" and thought the big ball 1.68" was something of a novelty

- still think graphite is a bit suspicious because you remember the early ones that you had to really wait on

- tell younger golfers that your persimmon headed driver was about the same size as their hybrid, and had a heavy steel shaft as well.

You forget your score from the 1st hold on your way to the 2nd tee and then you forget which hole you're currently playing.

You can remember when you bought a Penfold Ace golf ball because you couldn't afford a Dunlop Warwick, let alone a Dunlop 65.

You had a pair of rubber golf shoes with spikes and a thin nylon rain jacket with a broken zip.

You know trees get taller and our swings get shorter with age. Yep with reduced distance even from the proper tees makes you think and replot your game

I actually found a Balata Pro 90 in the range balls last week and it was in decent shape--- And yes I scarfed it up--- I do hit a lot of balls I find into the range and they become range balls. Last week I found a 5 gallon bucket of balls in the inner bowels of my other building. Threw them in the car and hit some down the range. Got a key and dumped the rest into the dispenser. A lot of us members do this keeps range costs down. Full members like myself have unlimited range balls free. But we still do little things to keep costs down

I've a decent collection of DT Wound. When I was a Junior, I couldn't usually afford balata balls, so  I only played them on very special occasions, like the city junior open.

The DT Wound balls are OK, but I find them to play on the less spinny side of the wound balls I have. I like the wound Maxfli DDH balls, and the Maxfli Elite is pretty good, too.
